Barbie denied entry to Saudi Arabia
San Francisco Chronicle | Submitted by: Schwag of Tulsa
"Saudi Arabia has banned the importation of female dolls and stuffed animals, giving merchants three months to dispose of such stock, a state-guided newspaper reported Wednesday... The ban singled out stuffed-animal toys and female dolls. It did not mention male dolls and it was not clear if these were banned as well. The order also ordered any mannequins for female clothes be 'far from any indecency' and prohibited the importation of crucifixes and models of Buddha."

What marketing geniuses those guys are over at Mattel! Dont they know they should have dressed up Barbie from head to toe including head scarfs? Jeez Louise!
Can you imagine the men of that country ogling over that doll or the mannequins for that fact? It would cause massive upheaval within their society!
Just kidding

It's due to religous beliefs that females should be covered at all times, and most women aren't allowed to so much as show their hair in public. The only ones allowed to see their hair is their family. My husband was in Saudi Arabia while on a sub in the region, and they called the Women BMO's. (black Moving Objects) because of the long flowing black garments and scarfs they had to wear. Men on the other hand, were allowed to pretty much do what they please. My husband bought the Soundtrack to the Little Mermaid for my little sister, and the cover had Ariel on it. Well, poor little Ariel had been made into a t-shirt wearing scraved head happy mermaid. They'd actually printed over the original drawing so that she would appear "decent."
I think it's just a difference of custom that makes them outlaw Barbie. besides, who wants another country with women clammering to get bottox, plastic surgery and collagen?
