Earth on doomsday course with Sun

"According to an urgent advisory issued Wednesday morning by the National Weather Service, the Earth has broken out of its orbit and is careening toward a fiery end. 'Unusually hot weather has entered the region for December ... as the Earth has left its orbit and is hurtling towards the sun,' read the message, posted on the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's Web site. 'Unusually hot weather will occur for at least the next several days as the Earth draws ever nearer to the sun. Therefore, an excessive heat watch has been posted.

Besides there is no way for the Earth to break its orbit with the Sun. The sun is much too big. Even Pluto, that is so far away is under the Sun's direction.

Well what if an evil Dr evil type got a huge elastic band and used the moon as a sling shot?

If this is true, about earth plunging into the sun, why has it not hit the front pages yet? I for one would like to know if the world was about to come to an end. I would have some last minute shopping to do.
