This theory is quite old. Many believed Jesus survived the cross or only a vision of him appeared to be crucified so forth and so on. The Muslims believed Jesus survived the cross as well. Some call this the "Swoon Theory." Some popular scholars (Hugh J. Schonfield in The Passover Plot et al) have addressed this seriously. Is it plausible? Possibly. Surviving crucifixion was not impossible. In fact, Josephus writes about an account where three of his friends were crucified. Upon hearing of this, he begged Vespian/Titus [?] to spare them. He did. Two died, and one survived. So, could Jesus have survived ....

My opinion ... Jesus was crucified and was left upon the the cross to be picked apart by various predators. This was the usual treatment for those charged with sedition. It is quite possible he was taken down and buried in an unmarked grave and/or tossed over the wall into a burning garbage pit. Another norm of the day. That said, this documentary does make one think. Hmmm ...

If this is true, christians motto will go from "Jesus died for our sins" to "Jesus hung around on a cross for a few days for our sins".
