A primary school head ruined the new Harry Potter book for pupils - by reading out the final page on the last day of term.

Youngsters looking forward to reading the best-seller over the summer holidays were left reeling as Carolyn Banfield gave the game away.

A nine-year-old pupil said: "I don't know why she read it. She's not usually a spoilsport."

An 11-year-old boy said: "Lots of my friends complained about it.

"I put my hands over my ears and squeezed my eyes closed because I didn't want to know about it."

Mrs Banfield read the climactic extract from Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows to more than 400 kids at school's end of term assembly in Midsomer Norton, Somerset.

Whether you approve of the Harry Potter phenomenon or not, it has encouraged children to read. This act will probably stop all those children reading the book.

How could she do that? Maybe she actually hate Harry Potter and thought if she ruined it for all those kids, they wouldn't buy the book?

Oh, c'mon now. You know what's at the end of that book? An epilogue - what some of the people are doing 19 years later. The only thing one can gather from reading only that is who survived what is obviously going to be the big battle. Even so, knowing that can hardly ruin the whole book since there's SLEWS of things, big and little, that are tied up in that last Harry Potter book. Believe me, those kids will still read that book to find out what happened to who, why certain things played out the way they did, along with loads of answers to little hints and subplots dropped along the way throughout the whole series.

A few days after HP came out, Rowlings was on a tv show and did tell the ending of the book. It was also on the internet, stating "if you don't want to know the ending, do not read this"...Of course I read it...Now why she did this I have no idea..This teacher sounds a little sadistic to have done that, especially if the kids were required to read the book over the summer.. mellow.gif

Ghost Ship
She is probably one of those bozo's who don't like the magic in Harry Potter. She probably just loves herself now for doing this. Some people are mean and there only joy in life is being mean.
Lotus Flower
Was that all she read, the last page? It sounds like she did it out of spite!

Yeah, if she would have read the first page, I could understand that, get them interested and then leave them wanting more so that they would at least read one book over the summer.

I tell you something, if she'd have done that to me or my child, she'd be hurting, and I'd be in court.

Some people.

That's just horrid.

I was talking about the end of the book with a fellow fan who's just finished the book too. Suddenly another friend of mine gave a feint side kick. I was so surprised and when I look at him, he says "Dammit, I overheard your talk!"

No..this was no joke and this is true.
MoonPrincess
What a rude thing to do. These poor kids. Geez, what a stupid teacher.
