Memphis, Tenn. - A man is in critical condition Wednesday after his dog shot him in the back.

Police say King George, a 150-pound Great Dane, accidentally knocked a .22-caliber pistol off his owner's end table. The gun went off, hitting his 21-year-old owner in the back.

"I knew he was smart, I didn't think he was that smart," the victim's fiancee, said. "He was always protective. I didn't think he would be like that."

Police do not plan to file charges in the shooting, which they've ruled as accidental.

His fiancee fears what he will do to the pet once he gets out of the hospital.

It wasn't the puppy's fault! He's the one who left the gun sitting there, I would assume.

What the heck was the guy doing with a loaded gun sitting on the table in the first place?

Moron deserved what he got. Now, if he hurts the dog, can the dog press charges?

Wonder if stupidity's a crime in the US yet?

i can think of a quite a few legally legit reasons to have a loaded gun..

also, the guy never threatened the dog, it's his fiancee that says she's worried about what he might do..

so many bitter people here wink2.gif owning a gun doesn't make you a moron, and leaving a loaded gun on the table shouldn't really be an issue if you don't have children in the house.

And a pet isn't like a child?

I'm sorry but my two cats are my babies... Spoiled little brats too, but still, I wouldn't leave anything lying around that they could bump and break.

And I'm sorry, but I can't think of any reasons to own a gun and keep it out in the open loaded with the safety off. I mean if he had the saftey on, it wouldn't have gone off, a lot safer than just leaving the gun on the table.

They should make people here in the states go through fricken classes before giving out weapons. I mean for Martial arts, you have to learn the basics before they start training you with weapons.

Even with Fencing, you learn the steps before they put one of the swords in your hand. Why not guns?

Have a cookie. You win the prize for the most naive post I've seen today.

If his fiancee is worried what he will do to the dog when he recovers, maybe it might be best that the dog is given to another home.

Freak accident or what! ohmy.gif

Uh, no...and only people who never had kids think pets are "just like" having children.

Oh I could have done better. *Grins*

I just can't understand gun owners

Personally, I like a rifle in the house, but not the ammo, because bullets kill people, not guns. *I try my best to be non violent, but it's more fun using a baseball bat to the knees of someone breaking in than a gun. Thought the sound of a shot gun being cocked, well, scares the shyte out of most people.

Think I want to go through having a kid.... Live with two now, and well, both of them are teens and have really made it clear I am sooooooooo not a mommy person. I'm proud to admit it. There are too many people on the planet anyway, I won't add to the problem thank you.
