This ghostly image was caught on CCTV at historic Hampton Court Palace, a home of King Henry VIII, and long reported to be haunted. The 16th Century palace in south-west London is well known for alleged supernatural activity, but nothing suspicious has been caught on film before.

However, in October this year, this curious image was caught on the palace's CCTV footage.

On several occasions security guards were alerted to an open fire door in an exhibition area of the palace.

After securing the door each time, they returned to their office to view the CCTV footage to see who had opened them.

On the first occasion the footage showed the doors flying wide open, but no evidence of why they had.

On the second, the guards were stunned when a ghostly figure in period dress suddenly appeared on the screen and closed the doors.

The same thing happened on a third day, but again no figure appeared.

Stranger still was that a visitor had noted in the palace's visitor book that she thought she had seen a ghost in that area.

Here is another report on the same story...

To the sceptic it may simply look like a fuzzy CCTV image of someone in a long coat walking through a doorway.

Experts say the long-coated figure could be the best proof yet found that things really do go bump in the night... and the day too.

The mystery surfaced two months ago at the 16th-century palace, once home to King Henry VIII.

Security staff heard alarms ringing near an exhibition hall, indicating fire doors had been opened. But on investigation they found the doors closed.

Perplexed, they examined CCTV footage, and that is when it got spooky.

The cameras showed the heavy doors popping open but no one there. Then, suddenly, the long- coated figure appeared and slammed the doors shut.

The guards were told the same thing happened at the same time - about 1pm - the day before.

To add to the mystery, the doors also flew open at the same time the very next day. But the ghostly figure has been spotted only once.

The suspected spook has not just been sighted by CCTV. Australian tourists also claim to have seen a ghost near the exhibition area. The palace, in West London, has ruled out its guides as suspects because they do not enter that part of the building.

Psychologist Dr Richard Wiseman said the spectre, nicknamed Skeletor, might prove to be a significant discovery.

'It could be the best ghost sighting ever,' he said. 'I haven't seen anything that would match that at all.'

Mr.T
looks real to me, but i'm no expert.

Well, whatever it is, it is really there, and no computer fake. IOt's a bit too good to be true though, as most times cctv and other video capturing devices do not catch anything, and why would the 'ghost' be wearing a monks hood and cowl?

Here is an animated image... Takes a while to download.

interesting. But why would a ghost need to use a door? blink.gif

I don't know...it depends how genuine these guards were, i mean, this could easily be a set-up. Theres no evidence saying that it actually IS period dress, it could just be a long coat. Or just a very immaculate hoax, where period dress could have been made specially.

The entire footage is now available Click Here

allright I can't sit back any longer , I think the best part of the footage is the fact the doors swing open seemingly on there own .
I have to agree with Al on the ghosts particular sence of dress though , perhaps not King henry after all .
All in all I'm giving two thumbs up thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif just for the sheer fun of it . thanx for the research Lionel . original.gif

I don't know where the idea of Henry VIII came from. It looks nothing like him; he was massive.

OK, it's probably just me, but the person looks like Death without his Scyth....

Just to make sure (because the I can't seem to be able to watch the entire footage - some error) in the animated version posted by lionel, Are the doors swinging open of their own accord, the person comes and closes them...? If so, why would King Henry be closing doors, when he would have had servants for taht...?

specially a door that was not there until the 1960's. Funny how most photographed ghosts wear hoods isn't it (sarcasm)

I wanna believe this one too.Aghost in a palace,closing doors,nice.

Come to think of it,if he was walking towards the doors before they swung open of there own accord, then surely he must have known they were going to do so......
