August 3
Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan - A counsellor at a northern Saskatchewan Bible camp is feeling the heat for killing and roasting a squirrel over a campfire.
The bushy-tailed rodent was injured after the counsellor at Camp Kadesh threw a stick in its direction.
Camp director Curtis Anderson says the man destroyed the injured animal and wanted to prove that nothing should go to waste by skinning and roasting it.
A few counsellors ate some of the squirrel, although none of the 120 children at the camp had any.
But two parents were outraged and called the camp demanding that the veteran counsellor be fired.
Anderson admits the counsellor made a mistake, but after checking with the RCMP and the SPCA, it was determined he did nothing illegal.

Aside from the fact that he probably contracted some kind of disease from the meat, i think he tought those kids a good lesson, our society is so wastefull nowadays, and buy using ALL of the squirll (sp) he's making sure that what happened to the bison (buffalo?dontremeber) dosn't happen to them.

Yes but what if any of those kids ever get lost in a forest they now know that you must kill and eat things you would not normally, to survive. he did give a lesson but in a weird way.

yes if you chuck a stick, hit your friend with it, cant wake him up , then kill him skin him and roast him.

< that is really quite horrible.

What will he do next? Teach the kids how to 'cozy up' with each other in case there is a sudden cold snap in the forest?
The guy should be fired. End of story.

And removing the sexual innuendo you implyed yes if your stranded in a place with no shelter and its cold group toghter for warmth, that is a basic surivival rule.

Hasn't anyone on this site ever ate squirrel. I don't care for it much, but some people like it. At least the kids had a lesson on where our food comes from. I have met a lot of kids who don't know the cow on the farm they just passed is the same thing as what is in the hamburger they got at the McD's. (Maybe, never can be too sure what is in those hamburgers.)
I agree it wasn't the right kind of behavior for a Bible camp. Especially throwing the stick at the squirrel in the first place. The guy must be a real dumb a**.

I can't see a problem, what are we saying here, if the squirrel had been purchased from a supermarket cubed and vacuum packed it would have been ok? there's nothing healthier than wild caught food, it's not been artificially fatted, injected with steroids or fed sh1t.
I think squirrel's got a nutty flavour.
Uh-Oh

I kinda think it was good that he actually ate it and didn't leave the body there to rot, but he shouldn't have thrown the stick at the animal in the first place. I could see if they didn't have any other food, but I'm pretty sure they did. The kids weren't all eating squirrel. o.O

There are worst things in the bible then a squirrel being eaten... Yet the parents seemly have no problem giving their kids bibles.

Kind of amazing of out of touch people are with their food. When I was little I helped clean/gut fish and animals. It was fine.

Ya it is what you call putting meat on the table. My Dad taught us how to clean game and fish when we were as young as 8 or 9. Up until then we watched and helped. I used to love pheasant feathers. I remember my neighbor hanging a cow up in an oak in his front yard to butcher it. The whole neighborhood turned out to watch, help and maybe get some good meat. Cleaning a squirrel is nothing compared to butching a cow.

I watched someone kill a duck with a bow and arrows. Skinned it and cooked it.. It tasted really good. Bit salty, but good.
I would have eaten it, Nothing wrong with it.

Big whoop Im gonna kill three chipmuncks for there skulls for my new staff whats the big deal? I mean He did good by not wasteing it im gonna feed the animals with the three I kill.
What ya'll are missing is that this was CHurch Camp...not Boy Scout/Girl Scout camp...with little guys and gals that have no idea what any of that is about. If there parents want to take them hunting that's fine...but in this context it was inappropriate.

City boys. Whats the big deal about eating a squirrel? Heaven forbid... Us human monkeys are so funny.

Why don't we just coat everything with bubble rap, kittens whiskers, puppies smiles and rainbow juice?
Where the hell do they think their food comes from?! If they haven't thought about this all ready, than maybe it's about time they did. I can't stand parents who try to shelter their children from everything, in the end all they are doing is their child a disservice.
Edit: Hahahaha chipmunk skull staff.

Squirrel isn't bad tasting.
I would've killed at least one or two more though to make a squirrel-ka-bob.
