Conjoined twins born nine months ago in Vancouver will not undergo separation surgery because it is too risky, their mother said Friday.

Krista and Tatiana Hogan, shown shortly after they were born in Vancouver in October, share brain tissue and blood vessels.
(CBC)
Felicia Simms told CTV News in an exclusive interview that recent tests have shown her daughters would be left with severe brain damage if they were separated.

The girls, Kristi and Tatiana Hogan, are joined at the head and share brain cells, neural tissue and blood vessels.

"I am relieved to know," Simms told CTV after learning the results of the tests on Friday at the BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver.

conjoined

The poor parents, keep them together and know they will never have a completely normal life or risk death/ mental damage.

thats good she didn't get them separated. allot of the time separation will mean death for one of the twins. in this case it sounds like death could have been a very real out come for both of them. just isn't worth the risk no.gif

Maybe the study of the Frenchman with the flat brain will help speed progress up some.

Hey! What an idea, I never thought of that. It is very possible. Especially if you think that things happen for a reason. Maybe he was "made" that way for a reason. It's a nice thought, at least IMO.

Each situation is obviously unique, but I think she made a good choice. Better than risking one of their lives.

Watch this video (it loads extremely quickly). It's about a two conjoined twins, they pretty much share a single body. Two arms, two legs, two heads. And they live a perfectly normal life.

Humans can adapt to any situation. yes.gif

Yes, we are amazing creatures, otherwise we would have died off a long time ago.

The attitude of the mom to say "now we can go on with our lives" is wonderful..The decision had to be so hard, but trying to put myself in her place as a mother and grandmother, I think I would feel the same way...Cojoined twins were and still are rare, but years ago, before any idea that an operation could be done, they led fine lives..Some traveled with the circus, some were married and a few were involved in the arts..I hope they do fine and bring much happiness to their family.. original.gif

I,m glad they have decided not to seperate them, there may be some challenges for them and their family to overcome specially during their growing years, But with love and support i think the girls and their family will do just fine! And they are very healthy and really sweet babies! I wish them good luck and God Bless! yes.gif thumbsup.gif
