I play the drums... I have been in 3 different bands. It was fun for a while, but college came along and you can't play drums in the dorms so I stopped playing all the time. Now I just play when I get home for weekends. Its sad, nice set of drums just sitting there. Collecting dust.

I'm in a thrash/punk band. Our shows are violent and crazy, so our music reflects that. We're just typical California teenagers taking out our aggression.

Our myspace is www.myspace.com/agitatorthrash

I'm the drummer by the way.

Well, dudes, heres some pics of my double-bass repair.........................................

All glued n clamped up...................................

Rocket88
No clamps ! Thats my lad, Ollie. The mark on the finger board is where i drilled & put a screw
in for good measure. The strings (steel) came with the bass, so i just need a tailpiece &
a couple of pick-ups. Can anyone suggest pick-ups for rockabilly ?

Heres a pic of the neck join, after a bit of sanding.
When its all up & running i"ll try to post a vid of it being played..............................

Good luck with the bass, mate.

I play fiddle/violin. I play classical in a quartet. I also play in a folk band for contra dancing (uncool, I know...). I've been attending blues and jazz jams lately and hope that by next year I can play in some of the better, more highly attended jams in my area.

Cool tnr.
I thought "Sharp Dressed Man", sounded Kurt Cobainish (vocally). It gave it a new twist.

Heres my attempts >>>> www.myspace.com/deckrocket88

The videos are on the right of the page, scroll down.First one is a practise session in a local pub, covering Buddy Holly"s
,"That"ll Be The Day". The second one is us at an outdoor b/day party doing a couple of Eddie Cochran tunes.
The drums are in a wooden summerhouse & we couldnt hear each other, but manged to keep it together. thumbsup.gif grin2.gif

I am my own band! Not sure if I can post a link or not; if not I'm sure someone will delete it

Thanks Rocket, that was our drummer Max on vox, the beggening of the song is a little iffy, but it ended up being my favorite one!

I really liked the second video. By the way, where did you get those vintage mics?

The mics are from a retailer called "John Hornby Skewes" (JHS) & we ordered them off the internet.
They look vintage, but have got modern internals. thumbsup.gif

Not in a band, not for many years. However...
I enjoy an old group (still playing) called The Ventures. Played many Ventures tunes in a band in high school, they were quite popular then.
So. I have an original Ventures Mosrite electric, they used Mosrite for a while then switched to Stratocasters. I like both, but sold my Stratocaster. Also have a Maruha 12 string (and play the thing). Also have a yakkity sax which I'm trying to learn. Also a Yamaha keyboard, though I can't claim to be any good at it.
I play in my basement. I do like the effect the 12 string has on such tunes as Malaguena. But it's best playing folk music or blues such as Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter), who was superb.
I like playing such as Ventures, Duane Eddy, Cash, and such stuff, and not loud -- I've got jet ears, and high volumes tend to cause hurt (a good song, by the way).
Music is universal, isn't it?

No Problem, mate. thumbsup.gif Ya welcome.
From what i"ve heard, proper 50s mics sound (blimey, how do ya describe "sound" with words?), smoother, warmer ?
Probably like a studio ribbon mic.But i"m not complaining about our mics, They are cast & polished aluminium & look the part,
with all the robustness & reliabillity of modern gear.BTW they are REALLY robust & weigh loads! But look COOL! yes.gif

Edit: And the way i "sing", any mic will do !

Hi, RC.
Have you got a Mosrite that was actually used by the Ventures ?

Duane Eddy ? Cool. thumbsup.gif

Was it D.Eddy or Vince Ray that did Rebel Rouser, the 1st (& only ? ), instrumental to get BANNED for influencing young
people & causing juvenille delinquency ?

YES, music is Universal! It"s the language we all understand. grin2.gif

Yes sir, a real, live Ventures Mosrite, played in the late 50s/early 60s by Nokie Edwards. It's in pretty rough shape, and I'm afraid to put it in a shop, so I just keep it the way it is. By the way, the Ventures were the only group every awarded a cultural interchange by Japan. I don't think they were quite so popular in the US, except for the first few years, but it seems that Japan, Britain, and Germany they had a good following. Most of their albums aren't available in this country (I wish they were, I've only accumulated some 46 of their 180? albums). I must be nuts!!

Duane Eddy did Rebel Rouser. At the time, he was a bit famous for the sax included and the party voices in the background. Many claimed those were supposed to be the parties of the Hell's Angels and other biker groups, but I don't really know if that was the intent. I had some altercations with a bunch called the Axmen down in Southern California, but I was with a training group that was much nastier than the bikers, so they laid off (during Nam).

Duane also did one of the finest (in my mind, anyway) versions of Ghost Riders in the Sky of all, and I think everybody and brother played that thing.

Ah, well. Just keep listening, and playing. Whatever kind, it's all got rhythm.
