Idk how I missed this thread. I'm obviously loosing it. Yesm, I am in a band and have been in the same one for over 10 years. Oddly we haven't killed each other yet. We're progressive rock/jazz fusion. I've done several side projects with metal bands including progressive and black metal. Good times.

Did I mention I'm a drummer? tongue.gif I'm dabbling with piano, bass and very little guitar.

What do ya call someone who hangs around with musicians ? A Drummer !!!!!

Just kidding grin2.gif

It was like a graduation. There was about 100 people in the audiance and I would say about 8 people gave a standing ovation and realised no one else was standing up so they sat down tongue.gif . Someone yelled "FREEBIRD". We just played the same type of deal on June 9th but we played with another guitarist and we played Oye Como Va by Santana and because we had no Keyboard I took a bass solo and everyone loved it!! I recommend giving your bassist a solo every now and then. yes.gif

Love the bit about the standing ovation !

I"m crap at choosing songs for the set-list. Everyone loves the ones i DID"NT choose! I guess i like obscure stuff. wacko.gif

Why do drummers leave their sticks on the dashboard?

So they can park in handicapped spaces!!

Drummers don't just grow on tree's.....................they swing in them too

How do you know a drummer is at your door?

The knock speeds up

ROFL, also kidding big time, my very best friend still from school is an awesome drummer. I love the opportunity to jam with him. I worked with a chick drummer for many years, that was fun too. She is crazy.
Already posted my info in the other thread, didn't realise two were on the go, in short, Big Les Paul /Marshall combo fan. Love the blues.

Musician jokes are usually pretty funny...I'm pretty well versed in viola jokes myself...but all the drummer jokes thusfar just suck. mellow.gif

At any rate, I'm not in a band persay but I'm a classical violinist/violist for 8+ years now and have been in various orchestras, string ensembles, quartets, and etc. Not as cool as bands but all the same I have a lot of fun with it. I'm starting to get interested in messing around with electric violin as well, you can do some pretty neat stuff and they look pretty cool.

Actually now that I'm talking about it I want it even more. laugh.gif

I've also fooled around with mandolin a bit but I suck at it.

Anyway, not that it means anything to anyone here probably, but I play on a German 1997 Hofner violin (which wasn't terribly expensive for a violin but to me sounds better than some others worth several times what I paid) with Austrian and American carbon fiber bows, and a kind of crappy Korean viola, with some dirt cheap viola bow or the American carbon fiber violin bow which is over 60 grams and so it's heavy enough for viola. I don't even remember the brand of my mandolin but it was $150 and you can tell that by how bad it sounds. laugh.gif
Black_Spade
I don't play any instruments but I've became really interested in guitars lately. I wish I had the money to buy one so I could start playing.

Get a cheap second-hand one "Black_Spade". Ya dont need a flashy expensive guitar to learn on, just something that plays ok & feels good to ya.
I play an electric guitar, but i bought an acoustic from Cash-Converters for £50 & its ace. thumbsup.gif

Some bargains to be had there, a mate of mine picked up a dual chanell Marcshall head brand spankers yesterday for 400 neat original.gif Did well.

I have this wierd Gibson body Fender neck F hole thin (about 40mm) semi acoustic with a tinny sound. Great for Chillie Peppers stuff. A good find, only $50.00 and I have never seen another. Nice looking guitar with a varnish timber finish. Picked it up several years ago.
Anybody think they have seen something like this? I have no idea what it is.

I've been playing guitar since age 10, been writing songs and singing in bands since age 14, Most popular was "Hard Attack" in the Detriot Michigan area back in the 90's. I still sing, I'm trying to put together a band here in Kentucky, just lacking a lead guitar player.

We need more info on the gear you all use.
What amps ? Which guitars ? Why ?
More pics of you or your band.
If you use an SM48, does it make a BIG difference to your vocal ?
Could you use any mic & still sound ok ?
What PA system do you use ? Why ? Which PA system has let you down ?
Come on people, more info , more stories etc..................................................................

Heres one of mine.
We had a hell of a time at what should of been a simple outdoor gig. Our drummer set up his kit in
a kinda shed/little summerhouse. I set up outside the shed thing, & the bass player did too, on the
other side.
As it turned out , we couldnt hear each other!
I could hear little bits of the drums but NO bass. Steve on bass could hear bits of drums, but NO guitar & vocal.
Tony (drummer) , couldnt hear bass, guitar, or vocal ! He just winged it, & it worked!
It felt horiffic at the time. But the people there liked it ! Just Lucky i guess.
In fact, you can see for yourself. www.myspace.com/deckrocket88 .You can see us look at
each other , & wonder WHATS GOIN ON ! crying.gif

Nice one "tnr".
Didnt something like that happen to Black Sabbath once?
They were playing a massive gig with no (or not loud enough ) monitors.
They all ended up playing out of time cuz of the time delay. ohmy.gif
MadMachine
I'm a self-teaching Electric Guitar Novice. I have a horrible 4-watt practice amp that can only do distortion (but it fits in my pocket! grin2.gif) and my practicing has been kinda limited lately because I broke that pesky little string THREE TIMES.
Here's a funny story behind that:
I broke it the first time while tuning it. I tried putting in the replacement that came with my guitar, following an internet guide, but broke it before I even got it around the machine head. I bought another replacement, tried putting it on while following a different internet guide. This one broke when it was *almost* completely on the machine head. Wtf could I be doing wrong? I think I may need to take it to a shop or something just to get a string replaced. I'm so pathetic. laugh.gif

I'm aspiring towards a semi-gothic punk/metal style of playing, although I do NOT draw any inspiration whatsoever from bands like MCR and Panic! At the Disco. ._.'

Hi "Boon".
Get a cheap electronic tuner. Job Done. yes.gif thumbsup.gif

Edit: I"ll try to put some pics on, about how to re-string a guitar.
Bare with me, because my business is busy at the moment, but i"ll do it ASAP.

I previously just tuned by ear, but an electronic tuner would certainly make things much easier and faster. I'll be getting one eventually. original.gif

Yeah, i"ve done this myself.
If ya start on the low E-string, & get it a bit to high, by the time youre on the High-E string, well,
it snaps ! What a f***xn b****!
It aint just you. We"ve all been through it.
Its a big learning curve, then, so far along the path, you"ll think, "I can do this".
Keep on trying, you WILL do it !

Sorry, "questionmark", but a move to Greece is not an option at the moment.
It"s just a little too far for regular practice!
You also mention,"contra bass", & "sheet". If you can do that , then you"d probably be bored by what we play.

I"m intelligent enough to know that ,"contra-bass", is upright bass. Are you from a ,"classical" background ?

Thanks, but I already know how to tune a guitar. thumbsup.gif
I just seemed to have a nasty habit of breaking a certain string while tuning it. I finally replaced my missing string (though I did it a little wrong, it at least sounds right...) and tuned it with the help of an old Keyboard I have in the corner of my room. lol

Nah, just old fashioned boarding school. Playing an instrument and being capable of eating with tools was part of the "good tone"

But the bass playing is self taught just as my guitar playing, my instruments were the piano and the church organ.

Careful when joining the neck, you could get some funny acoustic effects if you don't get it right.
