What’s the story of Iron Man and how would you describe your character?
“It started as like an anti-communist comic back in the day and Tony Stark is the protagonist. He’s kind of a messed up figure. He’s like an alcoholic and a womanizer and an arms dealer, basically. But he’s kind of like a Howard Hughes type and a little bit reckless. I play Pepper Potts who’s his assistant. She’s kind of like his Girl Friday and they have that kind of repartee, a little bit fraternal and a little bit sexual. And they have a very fun relationship and she’s kind of the moral center. source

How does it feel to be playing the first black superhero?
“I feel like Sidney Poitier and Jackie Robinson.
What’s your interaction with Tony?
“Well, I’m a liaison between the acquisitions office of the United States Air Force and Stark Industries. So on a day to day basis, Tony brings all of his new technologies - or possible technologies - to me first and then I say this has viability within the Unites States military. Whether we’re going to move it down into the Navy, whether it be a Marine application or whether it will actually… We also work with Boeing so most of this stays with the Air Force, but we also have us going to MIT together.” source

I think Iron Man has the potential to be a good movie and they certainly have a good Tony Stark...Then again I had high hopes for Spider Man 3 and Fantastic 4 so i guess we will have to wait and see how it plays out.

I didnt think Rob Jnr could pull it off but seeing the picks and reading up on it i think he can.

Full costume looks cool

Robert Downey Jr is great for the part. He looks like Tony, he's a good actor and he has had his own personal alcohol problems which, may not be addressed in the first Iron Man film but Tony Stark develops alcohol problems in the comics, so he can get inside that asspect of it more than someone else might be able to.

The film is looking pretty quality. The suit looks great, good work as usual by Stan Winston.. And Jon Favreau is shaping up to be a decent director and obviously Marvel saw something in his vision which is why they hired him to direct their first fully Marvel produced film.

I think it has been taken off YouTube now but I saw a video of the trailer shown at comic-con. It looks great! You got to see a glimpse of the origin, some action in the Mach 1 suit and then you got to see Tony, in the proper armour, flying, been chased by two fighter jets, awesome!

I dunno if this will quite do Spider-Man figures at the BO but I think, marketed right, it has chance to do really well and could eclipse The Dark Knight.

Oh and Iron Man or Six Million Dollar Man.. Iron Man easily haha.

Whose the bad guy?

Fans of the comics know that Iron Man's nemeses include his onetime friend, Jim Rhodes (played in the movie by Terrence Howard), who uses the Iron Man armor to turn against Stark. Another familiar villain is Stark's ruthless business rival Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges), who develops his own armored suit and becomes Iron Monger.

Yes and no. It is true they once fought but Jim Rhodes is not a villain. Jim Rhodes is Starks best friend and uses the Iron Man armour when Stark relapsed into alcoholism. Because the suit was calibrated to Stark the suit made Rhodes become disorientated and paranoid which lead to their fight. Stark builds Rhodes his own suit of armour which he uses to become the superhero 'War Machine'.

Obadiah Stane who steals his armour designs and becomes Iron Monger is the main villain in the Iron Man film although it is said that The Mandarin, Iron Mans arch nemesis, is rumoured to have somewhat of a cameo, setting him up for the sequels.

There is also the Crimson Dynamo. There have been several crimson dynamos in the comics but they have all been either soviet or russain agents who don crimson suits of armour. Although he is not in the film, he may make an appearance in later films.

This is indeed shaping up as a must-see for me as I`m a big fan of superhero movies. Especially those that have a more realistic human aspect of the main character. This alcohol problem if addressed in the films could bring a good dose of realism. Although I`m sure the fight scences and hopefully the story will also make it worth the price of admission. I know very little about the Iron man comics but from what I have seen from the movie it definately looks good.

Woohoo! Iron Man! Looks like a pretty cool movie coming. I reckon we're going to be hearing Black Sabbaths "Iron Man" sometime in it.

I'm not gonna past judjment on this as most comic book flims so far have sucked major time. Im still waiting on one for Deadpool, bet it would be a buddy comedy....*sigh*...

Btw when i first came in i was hoping it was a remake of the old animated IRON MAN movie where the kid finds that giant robot that saves everyone...it was deleciously awesome.

I think it has the potential to be a great movie. Downey Jr. is certainly a talented actor, and from the screenshots, it looks like it could be good.

I suppose we'll have to see it first though.

I love comic book movies and I am especially looking forward to Iron Man. I think this will be an awesome movie. I think Robert Downey Junior is a great choice for the lead role. I am sure it will be fantastic, I can't wait!
