Leviticus 15:19-30
And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even. And every thing that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean: every thing also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean. And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even. And if any man lie with her at all, and her flowers be upon him, he shall be unclean seven days; and all the bed whereon he lieth shall be unclean. And if a woman have an issue of her blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation; all the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation: she shall be unclean. Every bed whereon she lieth all the days of her issue shall be unto her as the bed of her separation: and whatsoever she sitteth upon shall be unclean, as the uncleanness of her separation. And whosoever toucheth those things shall be unclean, and shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. But if she be cleansed of her issue, then she shall number to herself seven days, and after that she shall be clean. And on the eighth day she shall take unto her two turtles, or two young pigeons, and bring them unto the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for her before the LORD for the issue of her uncleanness.

Leviticus 20:18
And if a man shall lie with a woman having her sickness, and shall uncover her nakedness; he hath discovered her fountain, and she hath uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

Ezekiel 18:5-6
But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right, and hath not ... come near to a menstruous woman.....

I know that sanitary protection probably wasn't up to much, in those times.....
but...it's a bit much.....not only did those women go through all that must be gone
through to reproduce the human race....but treated like lepers as well!

I should think that, knowing what was coming....the dreaded PMS was quite unpleasant too!

(I jest....I think there was a lot more to the menstral taboo than we generally know about now)

I'm glad we don't have to go shinning up trees for young pigeons and snorkeling for turtles
now-a-days. How time consuming would that be? What a to do! rolleyes.gif

How sexiest is that. Women are unclean for 7 days of the month. Women bring life into the world they are sacred all the days of their lives. They are our Mothers, Wives, Daughters and Grandmothers. I am humbled by Goddesses of life. notworthy.gif wub.gif

There were a lot of horrible things done to women because of the lack of understanding of a woman's body. And absolutely stupid rules and male dominated practices were enforced.

She needed purification at childbirth; after the birth of a son a mother was unclean for 40 days, of a daughter for 80 days (Leviticus 12,1-8).

I have to run, I will give more examples of what women suffered because of this later.

"Don't need the crucifix....
Got my piezo electric stone matrix,
Don't need the father's church,
The Goddess won't leave me in the lurch.

Don't need the patriarch's wars,
Mother Earth's a better cause.
Don't need a male deity.
I love the Goddess
And she loves me."

So this is in the bible, but I love when Orthodox Christians call the book the word of god, but pick and choose what parts they want to believe rolleyes.gif . If this was truely the word of god, then wouldn't god know all about the female body and never make up these rules?

WHy the thread?
I fail to see the harm done to a woman at this time of the month for her to be set apart for cleansing, I don't know any woman who likes to have relations while she is "blushing". Also, just because the woman was to be cleansed and everything else around her was to be also, does not mean that this was a negative situation - in fact she probably went to a special place where only the women go, and where there were other women with their menses and they all hung out like they were at the spa until their cleansing was complete.

Wow!!!

I am absolutely astounded by this post. Rev. Dr. Jesse do you really believe this? Do you subject your wife to these beliefs? I find it hard to believe that in this day and age that people still consider this type teaching true. This is why I think the bible is outdated, irreverent, and untrue. Are you telling us that the God you believe in created women to be unclean? My wife has never been unclean and never will be.

Guys..this is some kid who is most likely brought up in a sexist household and by the looks of it...seems to stick with the acient laws of the OT...heck me thinks he would make a good muslim lmao!!!

REAL christians do not think and act like this...so why let some kid who has only joined the forum, to post up as many arrogant passages from the OT as possible...not realizing what he is doing is wrong and is considered preaching

Women in the NT are respected...and rightly so

the kid that made all of these silly threads with no thought what so ever.....must not apprecaite his mom or any women...without a woman he wouldnt have a life PEROID!! i think he has yet to get his eyes opened

Paranoid Android
I'm not even sure if he is a Christian. He's never given an indication of his religious preferences, and may just be trying to stir up debates using controversial passages.......

As to this particular post, the second and third quoted passages seem to be an extension of the first, which was the first time the Law was introduced. Leviticus 15. I wonder...... did anyone read verses 1-18 of that chapter, or only 19-30 which was what the original post quoted?????? At the very least, it will give you the other half of the story, even if you still disagree with it.

Though I'd also like to point out that just because a Law appears here does not necessarily imply that the Law should be treated the same way today. There is the small matter of the New Covenant to consider.
