Michael Anthony, their original bass player seems to have sided with the Van Hagar camp on this tour or something. Eddies son, Wolfgang, appears to be filling in on bass in his place.

Yes, that was the real Van Halen, IMO. Not saying I didn't like some of the songs with Hagar, it just wasn't the same.

I like DLR, but the time passed long ago for him to get back with the band. It was sad to see him running around talking about the band touring together/producing another album and then to hear from the actual members of the band that it was wishful thinking on Davids part. Time and a whole lot of chemical abuse has taken a toll on the guy and I don't think he could pull it off anyway...

I saw Van Halen several times in the 80's, and they were AWESOME. I saw 'em with Sammy Hagar too, and they were pretty good (made extra cool that time because Anne and Nancy Wilson from Heart did a couple of encore songs with 'em in Seattle)

Then I made the CRITICAL mistake of seeing Diamond Dave solo about 5 years ago. Bad bad mistake. He was just a sad sorta washed up shell of himself. He could have made it good, he's still got a decent voice, but he insisted on jumping around like he was 25 years old, pretending to be God's gift to women (he isn't God's gift anymore -- he looks rode hard and put away wet -- and he can't jump like a 25yo anymore either).

It was just pathetic. I was crushed.

As much as I love the old Van Halen of the 1980's... I fear you are correct Sweet... there's no way those guys can handle the rigors of a tour. Both Van Halen brothers are in poor health, David Lee hasn't figured out that he can't jump off the drum platform and do the splits the way he used to... the only one that's probably in decent enough condition to tour is Michael Anthony... Michael who?

The problem is going to be their egos, not their health. Hell, I'd bet money that Ed and Dave get in fist-fight before long into the tour. Or the tour gets cancelled by Eddie after the first beer bottle bounces off Wolfie's head.

Oh, and the brothers are trying to erase Michael Anthony from their history on the van-halen.com website. They've altered their album covers that had his image on them. Idiots.

It's OFFICIAL people Roth is getting back with Van Halen and they have already played shows etc. and have dates set first tour with Roth in 22 years...

AMAZING NEWS!! but I'm not getting my hopes up. Its been 22 years and I need to know what or how got them together to even discuss a tour? Who has the scoop!

Maybe now at their old age they decided to stop acting like a bunch of 5 year olds and simply put sh** behind them....Or Both Roth and the band felt that they could get huge money from reuniting for a tour. In either case i have to travel to see Van Halen it might be the last time these guys are together on tour.

Money got them together. Dave is on a short leash and was desperate for one last shot since he was such a failure solo. No Michael Anthony means backup singers, most likely, which is an embarrassment. They are charging outrageous prices for 'all access' tickets with no soundcheck. Their last tour, I paid for three of those tickets and, without the soundcheck, people are goin to be pissed with what they get for that money. That soundcheck in '04 was priceless. I still see this as a train wreck waiting to happen.
