OCALA, Fla. - Lawyers for CNN and Nancy Grace have asked a judge to dismiss a lawsuit that accuses the TV host of pushing the mother of a missing toddler to suicide through aggressive questioning.
CNN and Grace say the wrongful death lawsuit brought by Melinda Duckett's family would "severely chill" journalists' coverage of missing-persons cases, according to federal court documents filed Friday.
"
The law does not permit people to recover money from reporters who ask routine questions while covering ongoing stories of national significance to the public," lawyer Judith Mercier wrote.
Nancy GraceNow, yes that woman had agreed to be on the show, and yes, she was later fingered as the person of interest....but, Nancy Grace is actually quite mean. I have watched her a number of times because there was breaking news and she happened to be on as the bulletins were coming on. She is relentless, but also quite egotistical. Now, the bolded part is at question. IMO she is not a police officer, she is just a glorified paparazzi reporter. Who is she to think that
she should get all the answers just because she asks. Now, am I the only one who finds that she is very abrasive?

Actually I think the medical term is "uptightus poopieheadus".
I feel sorry for her. The lady makes a living by ridiculing and treating people poorly...Personally I think somebody ought to start slipping prozac into her coffee in the morning and get her a date or two with a good looking member of whatever sex she goes for and she would likely lighten up a bit.

Well, Rush Limbaugh is a pompous pain in the ass and he's redefined talk radio.
Nancy Grace is having kids? I hadn't heard that. If there was anything missing in her tv persona it was the sanctimonious soccer-mom routine. Now that blank will be filled.

Saddly I think that when Nancy's fience was brutally murdered she went with out the much needed grief counceling she should have taken advantage of. She has always seemed like an unhappy person to me I think this is why. She hasn't properly grieved for her own loss and takes it out on countless court tv and cnn guests. Nor am I sure that her "work" has done any good for the world. Has she accomplished more than just a show? has she ever "caught" a criminal? Or been responsible for a conviction out side of her lawyer days? She was a hi profile lawyer/ Prominent DA. She uses network news to vent and if I was taking her to court I would certaily bring to light her verbal abuse issues as well as bitter, spitful and biased nature. But she must be doing something right. I mean I dont have a tv show.

I will probably be hated for this, but personally I like her. YES she is abrasive, and an in your face type person. But the one thing I admire about NG is that she is a true advocate for victim's rights. She does not put up with any BS from those arrogant defense attornies, and tells it like it is. She will argue with the best of them. I think because she is female people tend to think she should be sweet, and I am sure off camera she is. Just take a look at Larry King, Geraldo, and yes Rush, and many more. Seems because they are men, they are supposed to be rough and tough, but a female, no way!! Yes she did lose her fiance years ago when he was killed violently and has not practiced since. She recently married and pregnant with twins (UGH) LOL..In my opinion there is no way CNN will get rid of her as her ratings are way too high. She did give that woman chit, the one whose little toddler just disappeared out of his crib (yet to be found) and I believe the mother was suicidal anyway, as no one person grilling a suspect would blow their heads off. I truly believe the Mother had something to do with his "disappearance." In any case, I would rather watch her than alot of others on CNN. Glen Beck is cool but very outspoken and I do enjoy him but I am surprised he hasnt been sued yet. Larry King is a moron, and asks the most bizarre questions, I have to turn when he is on. Anyway, I think NG gets the facts, and puts it out there to keep the public informed. I have seen her sob for children who have been molested and or killed, so I believe that is her TV demeanor..DONT shoot me LOL..JN

If she is putting on.....I hope after these twins are born.....she realizes what this world is all about. Not just ratings...

Because she was a well known prosecutor who never lost a case, I believe she does know what the world is about, and alot about people. When the defense attornies start spewing crap like OJ was set up etc, she does cut them short, I would too. She likes to hear from impartial attornies, psychiatrists and forensic scientists to rely on. I hope her twins are born healthy and I bet she will be strict and only because she knows what kids out there get into..JN

The Supreme Court of Georgia has commented on Grace twice. First, in a 1994 heroin trafficking case, Bell v. State, the Court said that she "exceeded the wide latitude of closing argument" by drawing comparisons to unrelated murder and rape cases, and declared a mistrial.[5]
In 1997, the court was more severe. Although its decision overturning the murder-arson conviction of businessman Wayne Weldon Carr in the death of his wife was caused primarily by other issues, the court made note of Grace's court actions, citing "inappropriate and illegal conduct in the course of the trial."
Her opening statement in the case promised the jury evidence of physical abuse that she had to know would never be admissible because that entire aspect of the case had already been excluded by the judge.
Subpoenas that contained hearing dates Grace knew to be false.
Failure to disclose a full witness list to the defense in a timely fashion.
Showing a chart during closing arguments that falsely stated a defense expert had not contradicted the state's case on a key issue.
Also, during closing argument, "vouching" for the case by telling the jury she herself believed Carr to be guilty.
And finally, performing two illegal searches of Carr's house, including one during which she was accompanied by a CNN camera crew.
While the court said its reversal was not due to these transgressions, since the case had turned primarily on circumstantial evidence, it nevertheless concluded "the conduct of the prosecuting attorney in this case demonstrated her disregard of the notions of due process and fairness, and was inexcusable." Carr was freed in 2004 when a judge ruled Fulton County had waited too long to retry him.

She may think what she does is just bringing out the truth in honest journalism, but she has become arrogant, selfrightious and judgemental! This has taken the honesty and truth out of what she says and does and how she does it! She has her own motives and agenda that have nothing to do with good honest journalism, and she,s cruel and condemming! She is in my oppinion a selfish, selfserving political soap box drama queen that does more damage than any good!

Yes she is tainted with allot of personal greif she has kept with her , but I personaly think its
not as bad as every thinks it to be ,.. at times shes a bit over emotional. All and all I feel shes one of the more commpassionate newscasters. By the way she is expecting twins right now, and that couls be why she has been a bit over the top lately. I ve seen worse commentaters out there far more bullying and purposely vendictive and rude. I guess that sells . At least Nancy Grace takes some time out to bring into our living rooms or bedrooms the faces of those who fought and died for the sake of war. I respect that. Personally they need to have more on these brave young men and women, who have been an unfortunate part of this real event going on. It just makes me so upset to see it continue the way it has been.
PS- That is ,... just incase I missed a show where she was really out to lunch or something. Then I might retract some of what I said reguarding her, cause I havent watched her show recently.

She kind of reminds me of Bill O'Reilly on FOX. He's pretty much pompous and his guests can't get a word in edgewise. No, I don't like her either. It's one thing to stand for victim's rights, but another to go on a "holier than thou" crusade using victims to gain publicity.

I find her WAY more obnoxious than Rush Limbaugh and Judge Judy. I hate most of Rush's politics but at one point the left desperately needed someone to shout "get over yourselves" and Rush did it. Also he's SO conceited it's a bit like he's satirizing himself. Nancy Grace is just this abrasive, unrelenting, pompous ass who visualizes herself as some sort of latter day Joan of Arc.
She reminds me of the radio "psychologist" Dr. Laura Schlesinger. So keen on herself it almost makes me want to go out and commit a crime just to piss her off.
I think the good Lord gave her twins because He wasn't cruel enough to make one child bear the full brunt of her ostentatious motherhood.
