they say theres no rest for the wicked !!!!
ive always suffered with my sleep if it aint nightmares its stopping breathing (sleep apnea) which in turn makes me freak out bigtime,i have anxiety and panic attacks just as i,m drifting off and wake myself up having what i can only describe as a fit or seizure but the worst of them all is being concious during sleep paralasys (hypnagogic paralysis)which causes the worst hallucinations ever !!!! you wouldnt believe the things ive seen (scariest sh*t ever )

sleep deprevation aint good and i think i,m gonna have to resort to medication to stop this or maybe get checked out by sleep specialists.
if anyone suffers with there sleep or knows about sleep disorders and what i,m going through or has information that i can look into or may even help me or just to chat about it i would be grateful to hear there views or stories . ive read up about the things that plague my sleep and visited many web sites and have tried a few tricks but to no avail .
thanks in advance an extremely tired um member sad.gif

Hi Mark, and welcome to UM. I'm really sorry to hear about your sleeping problems...but please be assured, there is hope. Insomnia is a complex problem. Most people label insomniacs as chronic worriers. In many cases that is true, but constant tension and worrying is often a side effect of deeper psychological or neurological problems.

The first step on the path towards healthy sleep is to lay the neurological groundwork for relaxation, control of mental chatter and energy levels. For example, there is a specific band of brainwaves, called the Sensory Motor Rhythm (SMR), which is involved in the control of arousal states and inhibiting movement during sleep. This brain activity is vital to healthy sleep, so it is not surprising that many insomniacs have a severely low amount of SMR activity. Exercise naturally acts to increase SMR, but given the sedentary lifestyle of society today, using sound patterns that promote this activity can be a highly beneficial supplement. I highly recommend a technology that has been scientifically proven, and in my opinion enhances the quality of life. This technology is called brainwave entrainment/audio driving. I've had nearly 100% success with my patients, when all else failed. Their sleep paralysis and nightmare also disappeared. If you would like more information/research/etc...please PM me, and I will be happy to assist you. original.gif

Hiya Mark, sleep disorders are a vicious circle, you fail to get a good night's sleep, you awake feeling tired and on and on it goes, because the more tired you get the worse the symptoms get.

I have found that if I do not get too tired the symptoms abate, also eating two hours before going to bed alleviate some of the things too. Do not fast for hours and hours before sleep, this somehow brings on certain undesirable things.

They say don't eat before going to sleep, but if you want a good night's sleep maybe a slice of toast will do wonders (just don't have cheese on top!)

I hope you find a way to get a fine night's sleep without all your interruptions. Take care.

Hey Mark - welcome to my world too - I havent slept in years... it's over rated lol
1. Insanity is good.
2. If not for you, then try Melatonin (I think that's how it's spelled - it's a vitamin or something u can get at the drugstore)
3. No eating past say 7pm or designated hour (2 to 3 hours before bed at least).
4. No drinking past that hour either.
5. Meditate.

None of it works for me.. but hey, maybe for you.
There are books too but I don't remember them... years ago with no results.

There IS always...great sex too.
That makes for a good sleep especially when thunderstorms are with you. ~grinz.

ps...regarding the apnea...there's a nose strip or something they make... not too sexy so I recommend wearing whilst sleeping alone and all, but ... might help. cool.gif

I know a little bit about how you feel.

All my life I have been waking up at different times in the night, and seeing a whole array of things that can't always be described. (Known as Night Frights). I know its my brain simply taking its time to swap from sleeping to wake mode, and my dreams are carried over into my first few moments of waking time. I've seen people, creatures, all sorts of objects. Things jumping at me, attacking me, hitting me. Or simply sat across the room staring at me. I'm so use to it now, when I see anything (at least 3 or 4 times a week) I simply study it until it fades, or simply winks out. But sometimes they seem very real, and in the confusion of waking they scare the pants off me, lol.

As an example, last night I woke to go toilet, and there was a large ring, about 3 foot across floating next to my bedroom wall, near my bedside table, and in it was a couple of what looked like fairies, hanging onto the top and side, dancing. Strange huh? No sound. After watching it for about 5 seconds the light faded and the darkness of my room returned.

I can really sympathize with you Mark! I have had trouble sleeping since i was 17 and suffer from nightmares and heart palpatations and i,ve tried just about everything from, Relaxation tapes, meditation,,exersizing early in the day and even got hooked on valium and all sorts of sleep meds that i would end up having to take more and more of for them to work! Which got me into an even worse merry go round! I finally got off the valium and sleep meds and i still have trouble sleeping but at least i,m not addicted anymore! Although i admit to taking meds when i get desperate after 2 or 3 nights no sleep! But basically i,ve not had much luck, i hope and pray you,ll find an answer soon! yes.gif thumbsup.gif
