Why they stop making classic cars?

Going back to 1955, my mom won a 55 chevy belaire from a church raffle..The new color that year was salmon/gray...What a car.

What a great prize to win! I sure miss those great old beautys, todays cars may go faster and come with a lot of bells and whistles! But my heart belongs to the days when cars had such style,class and personality!

this was the car I owned until 1996( not the car in the photo but exact type ) (70,000 miles , one owner before me ). I had buffed her down by hand with paste n cheesecloth. it took all summer but she was like glass . I had to get rid of her . I had the engine tore down to the block . but was getting what I thought was mono. turned out to be a basilar artery aneurysm. I sold her to a friend who rebuilt her and made a mint. He didn't even offer to sell her back.

OMG Ripley! Love the LaMans! I have a 1972 GTO Limited Edition Coupe (455) that was the bridge model between the GTO and LaMans. Looks a lot like your '70! Unfortunately, it's sitting safely in storage waiting for me to part with the cash to restore it. *sigh* I'll get to it one day.

But my dream car? That's easy... A Panoz Esperante. Alas, I can't justify spending 133K+/- bucks for one. But a girl can dream can't she?

I've driven a McLaren F1... honestly? It's not worth it's price tag. There are 3 of them in my state, one of them parks in my building at work (or did last year, the owner doesn't work with us anymore)

Yes it's fast, yes it handles well... but I was less than impressed since it's a million dollar car. I'm not sure it's even considered production is it? Don't they have ot build more than 40 a year to be considered production? I didn't think they built that many.

Spend 700K less money and you can have a Saleen S7... the differences when you drive it on the track are minimal.

Driving this car around in a city is silly and pointless. If you have a car like this, the only place to actually enjoy it is in a dessert were you can go 227 MPH. That would be freakin Awesome. I believe it is worth the price tag. Any lemon can drive around a city, but what car can do 227 MPH for less then a million?

Ya, there are some cars that will do 227 mph, that's what they dyno at. The real truth is that while the engine and drive train can handle those speeds... the body can't.

I had a '97 SVT Cobra that was modified to 554rwhp (which is about 645 at the crank where most HP is measured by the manufacturer). The dyno estimated its top speed at 211mph... the car was reinforced with a 5pt cage and level 5 racing suspension... at about 156mp you could feel the body flexing so badly that it would have been death to take it any faster, even though techincally the engine and drivetrain would have done it.

You have to be careful about those stats. (and the big fish *cough* testosterone stories people tell you)

These aren't stories. The McLaren has been around for a long time now. It has many owners who have pushed the vehicle to it's limit many times over and never has the car fallen apart !? Don't you think it's silly to say such things about this car, well after many years have past and having it being owned by hundreds of drivers around the world. If the car fell apart it would have been recalled long long ago. The McLaren can go 227mph for a good amount of time, time enough to enjoy the speed.

Hmm I wanna get behind wheel's of these how much does one coast ? for everything that it comes with?

no, I realize that. It's primarily carbon fiber. Yes, it's the fastest production car supposedly. this is a hotly debated topic.

All I'm saying, there is one black, 2 magnisium silver ones here in my town, I got the opportunity to drive one of the silver ones... yes, VERY nice car, no question... even if I had a million bucks to spend on a car it wouldn't be an F1. Not after I drove it. Nice yes, fast yes, but I don't need to do 200mph to the grocery store, and frankly, there aren't even tracks in my area that could handle a car doing more than about 200mph.

What's the point?

Not too mention.. it's a VERY VERY difficult car to handle, you almost would need to be trained to drive it. it's not like drivin' your mamma's Lexus. It's not a smooth ride... make sure your dental work is secure before driving one. haha..

aquada, would be my dream car, i bet you can,t drive ferrary or lambo, of a ramp into a lake, sea, and keep going at 40mph. also aquada is the only car to cross english channel, under its own power.
