Hi I was have just got a new laptop with Vista, I have a couple of games ranging from quite old to new with varying degrees of success.
I installed ONI which I was surprised worked perfectly, but after installing silent hill 3 the sound of the opening can be heard but a blankn black screen flashes on and off.

Any ideas on how I can get Silent Hill to work, or how I can tell which games will play on vista?

Thanks.

The intent was that anything that played on Windows XP would also work with Vista, but apparantly that didn't hold true in all cases. Here's a 'Google' search list that addresses 'game compatibility with Vista', you'll need to review quite a few of the hits to get a feel for your chances to find answers.

When I got my laptop with Vista installed on it, I asked in a computer games shop about compatibility and the Assistant's answer was that not many games have been made compatible with Vista and it really is a "try it and see if it works" scenerio lol.

Fortunately, I have found quite a few that work, unfortunately, I don't play them much because I am on the internet most of the time instead laugh.gif

Some games have released patches so check their offical sites or it might be that your video card might need a driver update.

If those don't work, kicking it and cursing might help. wink2.gif lol

Kicking it works best for me!

The video drivers seem to be a nice sticking point. One game might work with one version of the driver, but another game may need a different version. Oh, what fun. hmm.gif

I've also downloaded many fixed executables so I don't have to use the CD to play games, a particular pet peeve of mine that seems designed more to scratch up CDs and make money than protect from piracy. So far they don't work for diddly, and I'm back to scratching up my CDs... GRRRR! I thought I'd keep Vista for awhile so I could get more familiar with it, but not at the risk of about $450, the cost of the games I regularly play that require CDs.

(Note to mods, these fixed exes are not illegal or considered any form of piracy if you legally own the software. See here and a better explanation here)
