Full Version: Einstein theroy on time travel

i heard about this theory that einstein said that if you travel at light speed time will stop if you travel any faster than the light speed time will go backwards i dont think this theory works
1.if i was traveling in a plane going let say 1000km/h then time has slowed down but we just dont fell it its not fast enough
take a ride in the fastest plane and put like a atomic clock in it or something and also put another atomic clock at the airbase then take a ride in the fastest plane now compare the time on both atomic clock i dont think it will slowed downed much maybe just compare the millisecond or lower then you find out if this theory really works grin2.gif personally i dont think this theory works

einstien's "theroy" was proven many year's ago original.gif They sent a man into orbit around the earth with the best type of ship we have a nuclear one! at his fastest speed he traveled approximatly 1 second into the future wink2.gif so long time to go before we get anywhere like umm... a hour

You're talking about Einstein's relativity and it's been proven a long time ago and is used everyday in astrophysics to measure planets speeds and most of astronomical observations. It's also measured to measure the universe's expansion and to determine the Hubble constant.

Talking about general relativity (time is affected by mass), it is alaso been proven a long time ago and is what is used in the GPS (Global Positioning System) which seems to work rather well too, doesn't it ?

By the way, there's something inexact in what you mentioned. I don't remember reading anywhere in the Relativity that traveling faster than light would make the time go backward.

hmmm.... what if we traveled slower than light? would we go backward in time instead of forward? lol that was meant as a joke of course tongue.gif but what if instead of speeding up the world around you , you slowed it down? Just a though blink.gif

wasn't it if a particle goes faster than the speed of light, it would appear to arrive before it left to an observer?

(i stopped doing physics in year 10 so my knowledge is somewhat limited)

It has been a long time since I posted about science as I no longer wanted to participate in these discussions. However, this discussion is without direction, and something needs to be cleared up.

The term is called Time Dilation, and it is a fact that time itself is relative to speed and mass(well, gravity really). The faster an object travels, the slower time moves relative to a stationary observer. You can learn more about it in simple terms by CLICKING HERE.

It's true that the closer an object reaches the speed of light, the slower time is relative to an observer. However, it is only a theory that time will reverse itself and go backwards if an object reaches speeds faster than light. This theory is also in the UM A-Z Index HERE
