Christmas For A Female Medic
Twas the night before christmas
and all through the racks
everything was silent
the hallways were black.
The young female soldier
lay awake in her cot
dreaming of family
and love she once sought.
no one to hold her
this holiday season
She'd given up comforts
for very good reason.
healing the wounded
caring for the sick
wishing only peace
from dear old saint nick
she was bound determined
to see this war through
bringing her peers
back to red, white and blue.
When, out through the gloom
Rose the notes of a song
"Oh holy Night"
sung low and long
The reasons for sending her
May not have been right
But the end to the means
Justified the fight.
Dictator brought down
A people now free
A country to rebuild
unwritten destiny.
So on with the lonliness
in this holiday season
bearing in mind
there is always a reason
Love honor duty
to country and peers
has spread to a wiseness
well beyond years
so she cowboys up plenty
and keeps tears in check
as the men women and children
of war come in wrecked
broken and damaged
red, brown, yellow or white
she treats them all kindly
as God would see right
And through this season
of holiday "cheer"
she prays for the family
she won't see til next year.
