Katie as Wonder Woman?
That's the rumor...

US, August 16, 2007 - The Wonder Woman rumor mill is buzzing again, and this time it's Mrs. Tom Cruise that's being talked up for the title role.

Take this with a grain of salt, but according to a report in that bastion of journalistic integrity, Star Magazine, Katie Holmes made a special trip to Los Angeles earlier this month to meet with her agents and producers about starring in the planned big-screen flick based on the classic comic.

"The movie's only at the discussion state, but Katie feels this role as a kick-ass superhero will put her back in the public eye," says the mag's unnamed source. "She wants to show her stuff, and she wants to prove that she can stand on her own two feet without Tom's help. Tom, at times, feels compelled to oversee Katie's career, but Katie is bent on doing this alone. She actually scheduled the meeting when she knew Tom wasn't going to be able to be there."

It's not exactly a solid lead, but it's the first bit of news we've heard about the project since March when producer Joel Silver admitted having problems getting the movie off the ground.

"We've been having trouble with that project," he told fans at WonderCon. "We're going to make Wonder Woman work. We've had problems making it effective for today… work for today. And Joss [Whedon] tried, but we'll get there. I hope it can be as fantastic a movie as I want it to be."

Whedon was the last director to be associated with the project. He dropped out in February.

Holmes is the latest name in a long list of actresses that have been linked to the project over the years of development. Other notables have included Sandra Bullock, Eliza Dushku, Charisma Carpenter, Minnie Driver, Blade: The Series star Jill Wagner, and even American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee.

Katie has a gentle spirit just like Lynda Carter which might be why they like her but I think Wonder Woman of today should be athletic and maybe even a little taller. They should be scouting around womens volleyball at the college level.

As of yet I have not seen a quality performance by Katie Holmes in any of her movies, I just cannot see her being able to pull off even a moderately popular or believable Wonder Woman. I certainly hope this rumour turns out to be false.

I would not go and see the movie if Katie was WW. Eliza Dushku would be great since she is athletic and has shown she could do the fight scenes, same as Jill Wagner.

Cathrine Zeta Jones would be better. =P

She's perfect for the role, which I've said before.

She's too old. They are trying to bring in young actresses so that they can keep making more movies if this one goes over well. They want someone who is not going to be too old if there is a sequel or two.

They should hire an unkown actress. A women who is trying to break into her first big movie gig. Im sure there's a hopeful out there somewhere that would make the perfect Wonder Women.

I agree Katie is too small and skinny for the part! I would have said Kathrine Zeta Jones as well, but as glorybebe pointed out if they wanted to make sequels she,d be too old. I,m not really sure who i,d pick, but someone young and athletic for sure!

Katie Holmes lmao! As if she would even be considered for the role not only because she doesn't fit the part which is obvious but also the fact she had Tom Cruises face baby sealed the deal on her career.

Besides everyone knows Lucy Lawless should be WW I mean shes done plenty of kick ass stuff in Xena and she just looks like WW. Perfect build and face for this role.

Kate Beckingsale already signed on for Wonder Woman. Apparently it was a toss up between Katherine Zeta Jones & Kate but she won. That's what I heard a few months ago.

No shes not actually as this was when Joss Whedon was making the movie of course until he got fired which led to a new script and ultimately a new cast as well.

So far, there has been no one cast for any parts according to IMDB. It is slated for 2009, so they had better get a move on.

Rumor was she was going to be WW but as said due to fall out with directors and writers it was hanged. Only a month or so ago it was presumed she had the role again but another movie came up. and yes they are going young and i think they are trying the whole Begins and Returns thing on. In other words doing one of those weird prequels in the begging type things

I'd say eliza Dushku because she's athletic and like what has been said you know she can do a fight scene, but I think she's a bit too tough. WW was gentle and feminine. Lucy Lawless will never be able to get past being know as Xena.

Oh Please Xena is long and forgotten about and most of the kids who will go to see this with mommy and daddy were likely not born when the show was popular if not canceled already. Besides she still get roles like in the famous Battlestar Galactica series as a blond haired cylon.

BTW despite your interpretation of WW shes not gentile and feminine as the character was meant to kick serious ass... In fact shes not even a human being. Lawless today in general is an unknown as Xena fans only represent a small fraction of the people going to see this movie.

Since she is already known by most fans of the DC universe and superhero fans in general as 'Lois Lane' she wouldn't be that fitting for the role....

Jessica Biel is closer to playing WW in the 'League of Justice of America' and in turn a spin-off into Wonder Woman.

Hmm, the last I heard (and that was months ago) was that Jaime Murray - star of British TV show 'Hustle' - was tipped to play the part. Are they ever going to decide? It's getting a bit old.

Jessicca Biel changed her mind in less than a week not to take the role of Wonder Woman in the movie 'League'. Director George Miller is going with some well known names like Evangeline Lilly, Kate Beckinsale, and maybe Michelle Monaghan.

I wonder how hard is it to fill in Linda Carter's shoes or should I say bra.

I just came across an article that says that Australian model (and an old flame of mine) Megan Gale will play Wonder Woman in the upcoming Justice League of America movie. I would see this movie on these grounds alone! You can see by the pic that accompanies the story that Megs (as I like to call her) would be perfect for the role.

Charlize Theron would make a perfect wonder woman.She surprised me how great she was in Aeon Flux. Mila Jovovich would be good too if her breasts were larger.

Yeh, I agree about Charlize and Aeon Flux. Very sexy, and she also moved very athletically in the action scenes. Milla is good too, we have all seen her work in the X-Men movies. And I think her breasts are just fine.

No problem, I am a walking encyclopedia of mostly useless info! LOL. Famke is a little old, though if they want to be able to make more movies, depending on how this one goes over and if it ever gets made. Famke's in her 40s. I think they are looking for someone in their mid to late 20s.

Milla would be great, but as you say, her breasts are too small for wonderwoman. Now... If they combined Wonderwoman and Fifth element... THEN! We can have wonder-leeloo!

I still think Eliza Dushku would make a great wonder-woman. But, she's been cast in Doll House, so I doubt her contract would allow her for a wonder-woman role.
