I've started a project of collages of controversial times in our history and today. So far I've made two...Racism and the Tiananmen Square Massacre. I'm looking to do others as well. Islamic extremists, the current US administration, Iraq war, Darfur, homelessness. Those come to mind. If you have any suggestions I'd love to hear them original.gif. If I am able to find enough pictures on the topic i'll do it. I wanted to do one on the humanitarian crisis in North Korea, but surprise surprise....no pictures other than Kim Jon Il.

It's a new style for you and I love it...very powerful.

Those collages are absolutely beautiful; they're thought provoking and sad but hopeful at the same time. I helped myself to a copy the '60's civil rights collage for my computer. I hope that's OK. I'd like to print it for a couple people I know, one being my dad.

AS far as suggestions go I might have one, something that people still alive experienced but that's often forgotten by the rest of the world. The Ottoman Empire lead Turkish slaughter and genocide of Armenians killed anywhere from 800,000 to 1.5 million men, women and children (1915-1917). Ottoman soldiers told to save bullets would smash children's heads with bricks and crush them with boot heals.

I'd like to see a collage dedicated to those lost in the Armenian massacre.

Thanks you three happy.gif I'm glad you liked them. No, Girty, I don't mind at all original.gif. If I can find decent pictures of the Armenian massacre i'll do it. Considering the time period, it may be hard, because I need a large background for the smaller pictures to go on.

When I heard you made a collage on racism, I predicted, and it’s appears I’m was quite right in my assertion that you’d include MLK and possibly the KKK
In my opinion, it’s a bit too oblivious based on the old stereotypical one dimensional view of racism. ie 1950-60’s deep south America- when only white people could be considered ‘racist’ although as history has shown- it was only minority back then; who the majority of respectable white people were also against.
However the actual work in photo manipulation is competent enough and the positioning composition good.

I am not as predictable as you'd like to think. I do realize that blacks were not the only ones discriminated against. During the large influx of immigrants to this country, like the Irish and Italians were heavily discriminated against, as well as Hispanics who still experience a lot of that today. The problem being, you do not see pictures of obvious discrimination and bigotry when regarding those nationalities. At least I haven't anyway. Thank you for your comment.

I meant.. that all people can be racist... black white yellow or brown. yet time and time again, we heard the inaccurate and inverted racist message that only white people can be racist. It's becoming quite tiresome.

Ok.. this is quite inspiring, let's see what we can do. My first attempt on Non obvious racism.

I'm curious as to how you find that Islamic racism? Idiotic and stupid yes, but why are you not focusing on the race of the person as you have said not only white people can be racist? Racism is one race of people showing hatred of another race...ie skin colour. Islam is not bound by a certain colour of skin or nationality. If the signs said "Slay the mexicans who insult islam" or "white british police go to hell" that would be racism. What you made is a form of hatred, but not racism.

Wonderful work. Very moving. I printed it; its hanging on my wall by my desktop.

My husband thinks I'm somewhat obsessed with the Armenian Holocaust. I just tell him I used to listen to alot of System of a Down.

That made me want to listen to The Winds of Change by the Scorpions. Im listening right now. Beautiful work Empress Star. The Vid of The Winds of Change is great too.

Adolf Hitler, while persuading his associates that a Jewish holocaust would be tolerated by the west stated...

“Our strength lies in our intensive attacks and our barbarity...After all, who today remembers the genocide of the Armenians?”

And the sad part about it. He was right. I don't remember reading anywhere in my world history book while I was in school mentioning anything about the Armenian genocide.
Done upon request, and I'm glad this was brought to my attention.

Exactly. I never read about it until I started listening to System of a Down ; it wasn't in my history books either. If it was I sure don't remember it.

I was very young when The Scorpions made their '80's comeback with "Winds of Change" and new very little about Russia, the U.S.S.R. and the history of The Iron Curtain. My sister, who was born in '72 grew up in fear of the cold war and could give me enough insight into what it was like when she was my age that I took on one of my first independant learing projects, at age 7.

Independant learing stuck with me from that monent on and probably explains why I read so much now. original.gif
