I was on this site earlier in the summer with a fascinating cloud formation with a face in it. I have now captured a bolt of lightning passing through a cross on a hill top. There is a link to you tube at the web site www.heavenlyphoto.net I hope you enjoy them.

I don't think it goes through the cross, it just appears to.

Love lightening though, and I've never seen storms in the UK like I did when I went to Florida a few years back, they were amazing.

Thanks for posting these thumbsup.gif

I don't think it passes through the cross either, however, it is possible that it did. Probably would have been a lot more dramatic if it had. We had a severe lightning storm that night and when it seemed to settle down enough I got on the roof of my house and started shooting video of the cross. I wasn't up there fifteen seconds and this was the result. I was truly amazed. There are a few more pictures of lightning and that cross but from different days on my web site, heavenlyphoto.net. There are some other pictures of that cross and the surrounding mountains on the site too. Most of those pictures are panoramic pics that I have re-sized to give a more dramatic and gothic look to. Enjoy.

Nice pics! And the video was interesting too. If the cross is made out of metal wouldn,t it act like a lightening rod? So it is possible that it went through it ?

I'm confident the lightning didn't hit the cross. I was about a football field away from the cross when the lightning struck and there was never any thunder associated with the strike. Having been that close to the cross and the cross being hit by lightning, the resulting blast of thunder probably would have seemed earth shaking. It is an enjoyable thought to entertain though. The video is still a lot of fun.

Well if you were there you would know more, but i,ve seen lighening whithout thunder ever being heard and i,ve heard thunder without any lightening being seen! So who knows?

Well what do ya know! I must of paused it just right and it did hit the cross right on the left-corner of the horizontal part!

I'm far from an expert on lightning. I'm probably making an uninformed, ignorant assumption about the effects of lightning. When I thought further about my knowledge of lightning I always thought you could count after a lightning strike and find out how far away that lightning strike was by the count you got to. Kind of like the scene in "Poltergiest". I also assume you would see sparks come off the cross too of it was hit. Maybe that's just my conditioning from too much TV also.

The you tube videos you have chosen are again another example of my ignorance and therefore helpful. Thank you.
