ATLANTA (AP) - Baggy pants that show boxer shorts or thongs would be illegal under a proposed amendment to Atlanta's indecency laws. The amendment, sponsored by city councilman C.T. Martin, states that sagging pants are an "epidemic" that is becoming a "major concern" around the country.

"Little children see it and want to adopt it, thinking it's the in thing," Martin said Wednesday. "I don't want young people thinking that half-dressing is the way to go. I want them to think about their future."

The proposed ordinance would also bar women from showing the strap of a thong beneath their pants. They would also be prohibited from wearing jogging bras in public or show a bra strap, said Debbie Seagraves, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia.

The proposed ordinance states that "the indecent exposure of his or her undergarments" would be unlawful in a public place. It would go in the same portion of the city code that outlaws sex in public and the exposure or fondling of genitals.

The penalty would be a fine in an amount to be determined, Martin said.

But Seagraves said any legislation that creates a dress code would not survive a court challenge. She said the law could not be enforced in a nondiscriminatory way because it targets something that came out of the black youth culture.

They're not the first to do it, and I think it's a good idea and all, but I'd be screwed. My bra straps seem to show a lot.

Well the thing is, with some vest-type tops, you can't help it, pull the bra strap too tight and you end up looking like quasimodo, leave it too loose and it shows lol.

I do, however, think there is a big difference between a little bra strap showing and a bloody great pair of boxer shorts almost halfway down the butt

There are a lot of shirts out there where it's practically impossible not to show the bra strap. So hey, let's all run around without bras! Yeah, that's a lot better.

I get the part where making it ilegal to where the pants so low that you can see everything, and when girls let their thong strap show it,s so dorky looking! But i have small round shoulders and my bra strap always slides down my arm no matter how snug it fits they always loosen eventually! But what i hate even more than the kids with baggy pants, is the fat guys and their plummers butts! Sooooooo GROSS!!! It,s down right traumatic if you ask me!

A little bit of bra strap isn't going to bother anyone...I just can't stand the way they wear the baggy pants and everyone gets a look at the crack of their a**...Not a pretty sight

Why tell people how to dress? I'm not a fan of baggy pants but I don't let it get to me.

If they ban baggy pants, I want all fat women to stop wearing shorts, sweatpants and their shirts must fully cover themselves. Only fair right?

Some people are just too skinny for normal pants and are too lazy to wear a belt.

So if I'm wearing a thong it shows just a little. And with the bra... In the summer I live in tank tops or lacy shirts. So my bra strap's always showing.

Well good thing I'm never goin' back to Atlanta. Too many bad memories there.

I'm not sure passing a law that disallows a visible bra strap in public is a good idea. People's crappy fashion sense will change in a few years, little men will pull up their pants and whiskey tango** pre-teens will stop rolling down their short-shorts so their thongs can hang out only to be replaced with some other grotesque manner of dress.

How much thong is just a "little thong"? The bimbos with fake ID's in my city hike their thong straps up to their shoulder blades and then raise their arms up, a lot.

i don't like the idea of the government telling people what to wear or how to look.. so i'm against this..

i personally can't stand the style, and even get laughs out of it every now and again.. but they're the ones who look like clowns, not me.

then again, i don't even see the point in wearing boxer shorts... might as well go commando. i guess the main purpose of boxers is the cover up the space inbetween your knees and your waist while your pants drag along.
