user posted image rAccording to the latest research, it's not werewolves running amok during full moons—it’s cats and dogs. The new study suggests that pets get into more mischief and are injured more often during certain phases of the lunar cycle, particularly when the moon is fullest. The study, authored by Raegan Wells, DVM, and her colleagues at Colorado State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, revealed a link between an increase in emergency room visits for dogs and cats during days when the moon is at or near its fullest.Wells said this is the first time the lunar cycle's relationship to emergency veterinary medicine has been studied. The study, titled "Canine and feline emergency room visits and the lunar cycle,” appears in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The data, compiled from case histories of 11,940 dogs and cats treated at the university's Veterinary Medical Center, indicates that the risk of emergencies on fuller moon days was 23 percent greater in cats and 28 percent greater in dogs when compared with other days.

The types of emergencies ranged from cardiac arrest to epileptic seizures and trauma, and the increase was most pronounced during the moon's three fullest stages—waxing gibbous, full and waning gibbous."If you talk to any person, from kennel help, nurse, front-desk person to doctor, you frequently hear the comment on a busy night, 'Gee is it a full moon?'" said Wells.

Like many news stories over the last year have stated, Crime and unusual violent attacks often happen on and around a Full Moon.

Its amazing what sort of effects a Gravitational / Electrical field can cause..

Such things have long been known, After all - We are always the last too know.

Very weiiiird stuff. In fact it's pretty much a full moon outside right now for me yet I did'nt realize it until I read this. earlier when I walked to the store a strange small black cat approached me so I crouched down and pet it. When I got back from the store the cat was outside my driveway. I walked inside and my girlfriend noticed it was meowing. When my gf left for home she came back inside to tell me the cat was still outside. I went and walked outside at 3am and there it was waiting under my car. I pet it and such and it bit my lip out of nowhere but overall it was a really nice cat just acting really weird.

I'm doubtful that gravity/electrical field is the cause of these behaviors. I see one really big difference that's very obvious about a full moon night...that would be light. There's more light, perhaps this slightly disrupts the sleep cycle (animals/people are then more active)? More activity equals a greater possiblity of getting into trouble (both for humans and animals). Just my personal hypothesis about this.

I have no doubt at all that gravity/electrical fields effect the behaviour of animals but I do agree with you about the light
I think over time animal instinct evolved to be more active during the full moon phase (especially predators)

my mom worked in a major hospital for 22 years. She has no doubt that when there is a full moon things get crazier. Ask anyone who routinely works in the ER.

I agree with the Lt. about the full moon, bringing out the worse in people...As for the animals, well I had a german shepherd who would go absolutely crazy when he knew a storm was approaching...This would start hours before we got hit with anything, and once it started he would calm down...Animals have that hidden sense...

I agree. I worked as security at a hospital and I would always have more activity on the nights of full moons. But, my opinion is, it is not anything having to do with gravity, it is the visual field, the light deceives you into thinking that you can see more than you actually do. During daylight, you see things differently; it is more light reflection off of the things you look at and you have better perception. That's one with things like auto accidents.

Another thing is crime. That's opposite though. Burglars creeping around places think that you can't see them in their dark outfits. And you have the druggies that like to come out because they think it's daytime and, well, they would probably get caught during the daytime too because of their stupidity.

With animals though, I don't think you can determine anything by veterinarians; I mean, which city vet or vet office is open at night? But then, I do notice the full moon during the daylight hours, which is not a recorded happening in any ancient text. Like in the bible. You know, like 'Samson overtook twenty thousand men at noontime when the moon was full.'

No, really,be fair. It is an old thought. I have been contemplating that thought for a long time and sometimes I come to this forum and read and think 'Are they that slow?' And I go back out and see what they're trying to say. It's really a neat thing , it really is. Thank you SaRuMaN!

You better keep an eye on that cat or take it to the vet because if it dies, you got rabies. Now cats and dogs and whatever else howls at the moon have parasites with the frequency that responds to the pull of gravitation by the moon. That is the effect of gravitation of the moon on animals.

So, the moon has many faces.

And if you start howling at the moon, you might need to go to the vet.

The theory about light could be correct. But me and my mom both cover up our windows so no light can get in, and we both have a hard time sleeping on full moons even if we didn't know it was a full moon that night.

haha it's alright. Turns out it's a healthy cat that belonged to a neighbor down the street a couple days ago and they just dont wan't it anymore. The cat also stayed outside my house the whole night and next day without caring about my dog barking at it endlessly. Eventually a friend of my dads took it home.
