The best advice would be to write constantly. Some people keep diaries or journals chronicling their days adventure. It doesn't have to be an adventure--you might've simply gone to school. Write about something interesting that happened.

There are many types of writers, but the ones that really get to me are the ones that put themselves in those bad situations on purpose when they can. I'm not telling you to disobey a bank robber with a gun, but the choice is yours. Why? Because then you really know the feeling, you're no longer just stringing adjective together...you're tell truth.

When it comes to supernatural writing it's usually best to have a good background on fantasy novels. Lord of the Rings is a good suggestion along with the Narnia books. They have amazing plots and even better themes that some people may not notice.

My first rule of writing a novel/poem would be establishing a theme. In most of my stuff I post here you'll notice the theme I run with is Man vs. Self, Nature, or other Man (man meaning human--woman, man, whatever).

Then there are some people that can just string together a good plot. Stephen King once said he enjoys just writing and finding out his plot later on. I agree entirely. Some people think it's difficult, but I don't understand why they do...it seems a lot easier. Create a character, create a conflict, and you're about done.

Oh...little list of authors you may want to read:

Stephen King
Agatha Christie
Nathaniel Hawthorne(preferably the House of Seven Gables)
Edgar Allen Poe(his short stories are my favorite...don't like most of his poems)
Isaac Asimov
Arthur Conan Doyle

There are more...but when I mention them I mean you may want to read ALL of their books.

Why? Because it's some of the best sources of information you have to learn about writing. Even they read the works of earlier peoples. Whilst those earlier peoples usually worked off the works of religious scripture, etc.

Beowulf is a good one to read...not to long and not hard at all to understand.

Hope this helps.
