Full Version: Weird feeling in a dream

A couple of nights ago, I had this weird dream. Let me say that I was having a little bit of fever when I dreamt it, I dunno if that's got anything to do with it, but I know that you can sometimes hallucinate during fever, and maybe this is related to that.

Anyway, it was really psychedelic, and kinda freaked me out.

I was in this bookstore, but I didn't have a body, and the bookstore wasn't really a bookstore, more like a big empty space, with a lot of weird colours. But I definately knew that I was in a bookstore.

Above me, there were these huuge books, like the size of a car or something, and there were really many of them. They were in a long row, and I had to push them upwards my opening my mouth (as if they were on top of my upper jaw).

Now this is where the dream gets weird(er), and I'll try to explain it as good as I can.

I got this feeling in my jaws, like I couldn't open my mouth. Not as if it was glued together or anything, but more like... the feeling you have when you have opened your mouth as much as you can. You can't really feel anything pushing against your jaws, or holding them back, but you are completely unable to open them more. This is the feeling I had, except that my mouth was barely open.

This feeling was a feeling I had "invented" a long time ago, when I read Harry Potter 6.. Basically, Harry finds this invisible shield or something, that he can't put his hand through.. And I remember getting a little annoyed when I read that, because it wasn't very well described. He might as well have just touched a solid wall. And that's why I thought of a better way (imo) to describe what I imagined it'd feel like; the feeling you get in your arm, when it's fully stretched.

Anyway, I was just wondering about your thoughts on this dream. I have heard of people experiencing things like these when they are having a fever, where they have to complete small challenges (in my case, pushing books upwards).. has anybody here tried that?

I myself see this dream as a sign of me trying to achieve something I can't possibly do. but what that would be, I dunno

Were you on any medication? I do think this "dream" or sensation was due to your fever. A fever can cause hallucinations as well as strange feelings in the head (like in your jaws, ears, eyes, mouth, nose, etc.). Hope you are feeling better now.

I too, believe it was due to the fever.

Fevers can be extremely powerful and will induce the weirdest dreams you will ever have, the dreams will often be lucid and you may remember them for the rest of your life - vividly.

Fevers will also bring on hallucinations that will seem so real, you will be virtually unable to differentiate between the real world and your hallucination.

It's easy for stuff like that to happen when you are ill...doing ok now?

It all stems from the fact that you hated your father...

Seriously, it has been proven that our dreams are more than just idle fantasies. You are one of the lucky ones if you can remember quite a bit of the detail of your dreams. See if the same basic pattern plays out in other dreams you have. It's one of the few ways we can look into our own subconscious.

And yeah I know it might not mean anything, but I really just wanted to know if anyone'd experienced the same feeling.. anyway, thanks again

There is a lot of talking in books, isn't there? It is hard to speak your mind when there is some big opinions around.

I kind of felt the same way in a dream. I was in this big store wearhouse that was really big and i thought to myself being in a big place with no exits would really be freaky. It scared me.

I remember having some pretty F'd up dreams when I was on the Nicorette patch to quit smoking. Then again, one of the side effects was vivid dreaming. It was pretty awesome, like I was actually there and doing things in the right frame of mind. Then again, I also got the side effect of dry mouth and figured quiting wasn't worth it...

They were still kick ass vivid dreams though!
