Perris, Calif. — A suspected drunken driver crashed with a motorcycle and then left the scene, unknowingly driving away with the motorcyclist’s dead body lodged in the rear window of his car.

Tony Martinez, 54, pulled out of a parking lot Saturday night and cut off motorcyclist Nicholas Campbell, who was traveling about 80 mph, California Highway Patrol spokesman Ron Thatcher said.

The motorcyle crashed into the car and Campbell was thrown through the rear window, Thatcher said. Martinez then drove away and realized when he got home that the motorcyclist was in his car, Thatcher said.

Martinez then drove to a County fire station where 20-year-old Campbell was declared dead.

Martinez was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and driving under the influence. Bail was set at $75,000.

I can relate to a part of that...Years ago, I was driving on a two lane highway...There was a motorcycle in front of me, and I tend to stay pretty far behind them. A car was coming down the opposite way, swerved, hit the motorcycle, and the motorcycle driver wound up on the hood of my car...I was in shock, but had enough sense not to slam on my brakes, for fear of having him fall off, and me running him over. Slowed down, stopped and fortunately the driver of the motorcycle was not killed..I was never so scared in my life, but found out later that the driver was in stable condition in the hospital...This drunken driver in this post was oblivious to everything, and the results, a dead man...Very sad...

It,s a good thing you didn,t panic and hit the brakes or he would have probably died! thumbsup.gif I see people who tail bikes and cut them off so often, most of them no doubt tail gate everyone which is really dumb, but when it comes to driving behind a biker you really need to stay back! Ask any biker and they will tell you those tail gaters and people who cut them off are what puts them in the greatest danger on the roads! And of course drunk drivers who put eveyone in danger, but i,ve seen drivers who have caused these bikers to have to literally skid their bikes and lay them down to avoid being killed and the drivers in the car never even noticed and just kept going on their blissfully ignorant way! Infact my husband and three of his friends had to lay down their bikes like that because some guy backed out of his driveway and didn,t even look and see that there were four bikes headed his way! And this guy just went on his way and drove off! Their bikes were pretty banged up but thank God they were ok! I,m so very sorry for this man and his family, One man dead and family and friends heart broken because of selfish stupidity! angry.gif

Glad to hear your husband friends were alright, but your perfectly on target about people who have no regard for others on the road...And it's only going to get worse, if that's possible...Between the drunks, the use of cell phones, and some teens with those super hype cars, it's scary...I used to have a bike, but I got so paranoid that I sold it...I figured I would kill myself, or god forbid someone else... mellow.gif

Cripes, thats hardcore...and terrible.

Yikes - seriously bad.

My cousin had some idiot swerve into his lane and ended up knocking him off his bike into the path of an 18-wheeler. Got his leg run over and basically pulverized.

I won't post the link, but there was an accident recently on an interstate where a motorcyclist was traveling at 130+ mph in moderate traffic. The biker ended up having to swerve to avoid traffic, and rear ended a semi with a box trailer on the back. The impact was so great that his helmeted head broke through and wedged into the back door of the trailer and stuck, leaving his body dangling behind the truck travelling at highway speeds. The truck driver hadn't an idea of what had happened and had to be flagged over; he didn't know that he had been impacted by the bike and traveled some distance down the freeway with horrified onlookers watching the motorcyclists toes dragging along the freeway. Pretty disturbing stuff.

Thats horrible sad.gif ........................... I loathe drunk drivers.

That is very disturbing..But doing a 130 mph. is even more disturbing...In the summer where I live, the bikers are all out...They sound like they are flying, and I live way off the highway..I'm always afraid I'm going to hear that horrible sound of a crash.
