I did a long time ago. I found out through a psychologist that recurring dreams, symbolize an unresolved issue. Was told to keep a journal of people, colors, and every detail, but more so the "feeling" of the dream. Such as, was I said, upset, scared or angry? Once I put it all together we realized why that dream was recurring so often, and when I got some closure to something, they went away. Maybe this will help..JN

I have really only had this experience a couple of times..Usually you wake up right away when
you realize your dreaming. But today I was exhausted and took a quick nap..I went into a dream,
We had been working a Video for a song about the Ameican Indian tribes, for a few days,,
Now this dream was influenced by our work No doubt,, but I was standing amongest, their
place their time,,then realized,,but did not wake up,, everything changed at that moment, all the'
colors were realized ,,sound,,smell..all at once..I stood their and breathed deep waiting to wake
up and dident,,I could, smell the horses, the fire wood, hear them talking..they did not see me.
It was like they just could walk thru me,, it was amazing,,when I did wake up. I STILL saw the vision
perfect for hours,,still do..thought I would share this..and wonder How many have actually controlled
their dreams as such....I wonder if i was really there..I felt like the ghost observing..lor the visitor
from another time dimension like i was the apparition. and when it ended i was just slowly fading backwoards out of the dream like being sucked in backwards woke up very slowly what ya think zeb

If you are able to control or even just know you are dreaming then this is (as people have already said) lucid dreaming.

I have had dreams like this for over 30 years and thought it was something everyone could do until I discussed dreams with more and more people and found out that not everyone can.

If you practice you should be able to get more control over your dreams, with lots of practice you should be able to do all sorts of things that would defy psychics in real life...flying, enormous leaps, levitation etc as well as stuff like altering details of your dreams to suit your mood etc. Its brilliant original.gif

I love dreaming and am lucid in most of my dreams. Good luck with having more in the future original.gif

I am Native American, and have a bit of experience in this arena. There is a very important question any reputable Shaman would ask you, though. When you experienced the smells of the horses and the fire wood, could you see yourself? Men have long projected their spirits to other places to gain knowledge. Men with this gift or knowledge, could travel great distances in a moment, and see the location of the buffalo, in a familiar landscape. They would then inform the tribe, and the hunt would be on. It is no great wonder, if men can transcend space, that they could also do the same with time. If you do not see yourself, but can experience all that happens around you, you are experiencing it as you would through normal life, and you have cast your spirit to that time and space. You are there, but no one can see you or hear you. This is much the way it will be when you are on the otherside....or dead, in other words. Now on the other hand, it is said, if you see yourself (as if out of body) then your spirit is manifested and others can see it. You can speak with them and interact with them, though, they will remember it only as a dream, much the way we do when they interact with us. ~Jackal

yes that is a bit better. you can relize that you're dreaming without waking up. all i know, is that the couple of times I controlled my dreams, it was by my thoughts, and my thoughts poped in there automactaully/ by accident. it is a tricky thing, LOL!!!!

I've always believed that re occurring dreams happen because of an unresolved issue. If there is an unresolved issue in your life you will have the same dream over and over until the issue (good or bad) is resolved in your mind to your satisfaction.

That's just what I've read numerous times and my personal belief.

Ok I could understand this...but also..maybe your greatest fear or something? also?
I will tell mine..

I am sitting in a barn loft looking outside the loft door...amongest hay etc..
I look straight out and see a huge tornado..heading straight at the barn
getting closer louder darker...wondering in the dream if it is goiing to change
the way it is traveling..or hit me

.now I have no fear of tornados-really i dont think of them
as such, tho i know how bad they are,,but this dream started when i was about 14 went thru my teen years
with it happening i would say 2-3 times a year...then it stopped for awhile.then
in my 30s it started up again exactly the same way...and now since then
about once twice a year...just very strange zeb
coldethyl
Well the tornado symbolizes something coming at you.

One dream dictionary says this about the tornado:

tornado - Being overwhelmed by work or circumstances. You are stressed out. If you are overtaken: Things are out of control in your life. If you escape from or avoid it: You are stressed but can handle the situation.

source

If you have this dream every time you're overwhelmed it's just your body's way of telling you that it's under stress, maybe?

I dunno, it's all theory really. ♥
Jennie 1
Darnit! I missed the sexual content! I hate it when that happens!

I dream about tornadoes too. Weird. I always thought it meant a fear of losing control, I've never looked into dream interpretation but stress is the same thing basically.
The tornadoes in my dreams are always huge and slow moving and I let them take their course for a while because I love destruction blush.gif (I know) anyway, when they get too close I load up everyone I care about on a big old bus and we leave town.

I have a few reoccuring nightmares, one involves my past and one involves not being able to find my youngest child. I've had this dream since before I had children and it's always the same. I'm running down the street screaming for him and begging people to help me look for him. I know that something terrible is happening to him as I'm running along, but I can't find him to stop it. I always wake up crying. I only have this dream once every 3 or 4 years and having it since he was born, has been terrifying, but he's 14 now, and strong as an ox, so I'm pretty sure this is another of those "losing control" type of dreams. It's scary though.

QUOTE(Amroth @ Aug 31 2007, 12:42 AM) *
Well, I'm always able to control my dreams no matter what and normally know when I'm dreaming. Except for the ones I've said before with the sleep paralysis. You just have to have a lot of will power, most people who are capable of self hypnosis easily are dreamers like this. When I started gaining control was when I was a child and I was sick of having nightmares everyday lol. The best way to tell if you are dreaming or not, is to simply slightly bite your tongue. If you don't feel a thing, you are dreaming and YOU are in control. If you feel it well, then your not dreaming!

In a dream normally you can not feel anything, sometimes you can when other things happen triggering your brain to feel but, the act of you biting your tongue to see if you are dreaming will make you self aware. In all honesty start doing it in real life (obviously don't bite your tongue hard!) just enough so you can feel something. After doing this for a bit, when you are in a dream you will do this act, and you won't feel anything. Once you have done this you will have unlocked your mind and you will be aware of your dreams most of the time. When I did all this I was very young I think around 7, at the time I did not know what I was doing. I just remembered when I was a child, that you can't feel pain in a dream. From there it progressed, and you learn every little detail of the aspect of life, for example if you are swimming in a dream and you are not holding your breathe, that should trigger something in your head to know that you are dreaming.

These work wonderfully for typical scary nightmares, and for ones that are really scary a lot of them you know it's a nightmare and you want to wake up. If you can control it you can turn it into what ever you want, BUT sometimes it can be something that is just to horrific and you can't even look at it. Just close your eyes, yes close them in the dream. I figured that out as a child by mistake also, as you know when you're sleeping your eyes are already closed for the most part so how does that make sense? Well you do see in your dream, by you telling your eyes to close I think in a sense you are telling your mind to close. You will see just black like if you closed your eyes, and you will wake up.

One of the only problems of dreaming like this all the time (Which I can not undo if I wanted to, except some very very few dreams I don't know are because they are so good) but...if you are aware, most of the time you will wake up and not enjoy your dream because it will not last long. Knowing that when you dream it only lasts 2 minutes, now a dream may seem like hours, but you knowing it's a dream will try to do so much that is just not possible in that time period. A real dream if you don't know you are dreaming are really a bunch of "flash back" images is the best way I can say. And when you wake up you piece everything together. When you are in control you try to do everything in "real time" so you only have a short time to do as you wish. Just know if you can achieve this, there is NO going back, and sometimes you can lose the concept of reality and find yourself thinking you are dreaming when you are not. Also knowing that things are not real in a dream can really lessen the effect and sometimes happiness of a person. From what I've been told is dreaming is the way the mind repairs itself. Even if you don't remember the dreams, that is why if something terrible happened and you go to sleep, for some reason that you just don't know why, you feel better. Well that's why. So I hope I have helped anyone who is truly trying to accomplish this, I did everything honestly by just instinct when I was a child and it has carried on, that is what I did.

Also if you can do this, you are most likely going to be very good at self hypnosis which can come in handy. With me going through everything and being sick everyday and nothing really working I saw a pain management Dr. of a new way. He uses self hypnosis to try to take away pain and teaches kids and adults alike how to, not everyone can but it shows the minds incredible power over the body. He said he has never ever heard of anyone really calming nausia with it or vomiting from something other than motion sickness or anything at my level. But he said he would give it a shot with me and at the very least it would help with my pain. He wanted to write a book on me eventually with it and may want to do a study later on when I am ready. But after our first session he was amazed at how I was just naturally able to do it. I would be able to go away where ever I wanted in self hynposis and not just hear or think, but I would actually 100% see everything. My body 100% relaxed , everything perfect, so we took steps into the impossible with me being able to visually picture inside of my body and calm my self and take away nausia. To his amazement he watched my frail face(i was about 102 pounds then at my worse) to gaining full color.

Now no it hasn't cured me and I am still very ill, but no breakthrough medication has came in, but I have been slowly getting better health wise, but I am sure a huge part of it is me making it better. We got it to a point that I can put myself under within a second, to where I can do it with my eyes open while I am in class to try to get myself fine for a bit longer without ANYONE noticing. Pain though is easy to make go away if you concentrate, he has had patients undergo surgery w/o being put to sleep because they were allergic to anasthesia. I haven't seen him in a while but will again soon so he can document things but he said I know even more than him and there is nothing more he can offer than advice and to document. I have been trying to be able to be under while being in everyday life in a sense multitasking.

And I think I have been doing just that as I have been A LOT better off than I was, yes I am very sick but, I went from being home schooled in highschool not even being able to get out. To being able to attend at least 65-70% of my classes in college and able to do some fun things. Yes I know I went a bit off track here but it just flowed into this and I am very sure the reason I am able to do this is because of how I trained my mind(not knowningly at the time when I was a child). He has told me if I broke a bone if I really wanted to, I could make it not feel a thing. Well I would feel but it wouldn't be pain, because that is concentrated in just one spot, so it is easy. So, I guess this shows the power of the human mind and this is all how I did it. So I hope it helps and if anyone trys it who are healthy people, I can only imagine what you may be able to do. But just be careful and know that is what you truly want, because there is no turning back and you may not see things the same way as you once did, or would like to. I hope this helps =)

Amroth, this was an absolutely fascinating read. And very informative. You made me think about a lot of things. I had never understood why my lucid dreams came to such quick halts when other dreams seemed to go on for hours or even days. But you explained it in a wonderful way. I believe even a tiny simple trauma as a child, can cause any of us to struggle with recurring dreams. I had recurring dreams from childhood into my early 30's. I was in total darkness, and sort of in pain, then all the sudden there was a large bright light that hurt my eyes.I vividly remember thinking "here I go again." Then someone picked up me, and I felt confused but safe. I saw the floor which was old style black and white tiles. Next thing I was carried very carefully down a hallway, and I saw lots of rooms with people in them, with white sheets on them, and I thought they were dead. Finally I ended up in what felt like a sun room, all warm and comfortable but continued to look at the black and white tiles, and that point in time in the dream I felt alive and safe. It bothered me for so many years I went to a Ph.D who dealt with dream analysis. I saw him and I told the story in great detail. He smiled and said " We call that birth trauma, because you actually remember being born." Once we discussed the fact my Mom had a hard delivery with me, and what caused the dreams, I never had them again, but even as I type this, I can visualize it, all over again. The "here I go again" I attribute now to the fact we do die, or the body does and the soul comes back. Its pretty amazing what the human mind can comprehend and remember. Getting to the source of the dream, will allow them to stop. Considering yours are dark, cloudy and threatening, seems to me, you have something that effected you or still is, that is dark and in coming at you in full force. Its up to you to try and resolve it, alone or with a specialist in the field. In any case, thanks for sharing and good luck..JN

My cousin can control his dreams! I remember him telling me once and explaining etc

I started having a bunch of them this summer and they stopped. I remember saying aloud "this is a dream" followed by my surroundings looking more vivid and telling myself to float/fly and I did levitate.

None of the lucid dreams lasted long and I don't have them anymore.

I can do this, but usually when I am not totally exhausted. If I am dead tired, my dreams take me where they will. I am almost conscious of my dream and have a running commentary in my head as I am both experiencing the dream and watching it. If a situation happens that I don't like, I will almost rewind and redo that situation. It is really quite fun, since I sure can't control things like that in real life-what a blast that would be, to undo mistakes.

This is how it works for me to.

You know if you enjoy lucid dreaming you can do it all the time with a bit of practice.

There are loads of books on how to learn to do it.

Step one is to keep a dream journal.

I do it all the time and it's brilliant.

i have had an experience like this, but mine wasnt pleasant. i was awake, but asleep enough to be unable to move my limbs, if that makes sense. it was a horrible feeling. ive researched and found a term likened to my experience called "old hag"

Actually it's called Sleep paralysis and there is nothing paranormal about it. No aliens, ghosts or hags. It's perfectly normal. yes.gif I've had it my whole life. Here is some info

The video and song is on my space called Tribal rites..my space at the bottom here.. zeb
or visit my blog to get there and comment thanks

I can show you how to control them if you really want help hahahaha thumbsup.gif
