I have really only had this experience a couple of times..Usually you wake up right away when
you realize your dreaming. But today I was exhausted and took a quick nap..I went into a dream,
We had been working a Video for a song about the Ameican Indian tribes, for a few days,,
Now this dream was influenced by our work No doubt,, but I was standing amongest, their
place their time,,then realized,,but did not wake up,, everything changed at that moment, all the'
colors were realized ,,sound,,smell..all at once..I stood their and breathed deep waiting to wake
up and dident,,I could, smell the horses, the fire wood, hear them talking..they did not see me.
It was like they just could walk thru me,, it was amazing,,when I did wake up. I STILL saw the vision
perfect for hours,,still do..thought I would share this..and wonder How many have actually controlled
their dreams as such....I wonder if i was really there..I felt like the ghost observing..lor the visitor
from another time dimension like i was the apparition. and when it ended i was just slowly fading backwoards out of the dream like being sucked in backwards woke up very slowly what ya think zeb

The video and song is on my space called Tribal rites..my space at the bottom here.. zeb

Lucid dreams. I have had some lucid dreams, you realise you are dreaming and can control what happens.

They are also the sort of dreams whereby you think you wake up (but are, in actual fact, still dreaming), THEN you really do wake up. The only problem when this happens is that when you really do wake up, you can never be sure if you are still dreaming lol.
ZEB
I dont know/// Aok on the lucid dream...I had another one like this..a while ago..
I understand that...but one other time,a while back..a total different topic
but..sort of the same..I have had many dreams that I realized i was dreaming.
but this one when i did realize where i was..at that very moment all the wakeing
chemicals of smell feel etc where perfect..and the fact I could walk, just as if i was
there in other words..NO more dream effect at all..it really was beautiful for sure

Only 2 or 3 times have I been able to have some control over dreams. It was fun to be aware of dreaming and have some kind of control. Wish I could do it more often.

I can do this, but usually when I am not totally exhausted. If I am dead tired, my dreams take me where they will. I am almost conscious of my dream and have a running commentary in my head as I am both experiencing the dream and watching it. If a situation happens that I don't like, I will almost rewind and redo that situation. It is really quite fun, since I sure can't control things like that in real life-what a blast that would be, to undo mistakes.

I can control my dreams sometimes as in being able to do whatever you want in it, but I can also have dreams where I can't but I can control where it starts as long as I think of it for a few minutes before sleeping. But that dream can be taken anywhere and anything can happen that I can't control.
coldethyl
You know if you enjoy lucid dreaming you can do it all the time with a bit of practice.

There are loads of books on how to learn to do it.

Step one is to keep a dream journal.

I do it all the time and it's brilliant.

About 20 years ago I read a book about controlling your dreams – There where some exercises that should help you do it, so I decided to give it a try.

First step – Keep a record of your dreams.

When you go to bed, you should repeat to yourself a sentence like; “I can control my dreams – I am conscious in my dreams” things like that, and keep doing it till you fall asleep.

It can take a while (days – weeks) before your unconsciousness is prepared, but eventually it will be, and you can proceed to the next step, witch is to before you go to sleep repeat to your self something like; I will see a lamp” (something you don’t usually are aware of in your dreams.
When you have seen the lamp (or whatever you choose) you shall say to yourself – I will turn on/off the lamp – When you can do that – You should be able to control your dreams, and within a period of time, you can control them without imprinting yourself what you will do before you go to sleep.

It surely worked for me, on rare occasions it still does – But your dreams are so interrupted by your control, that you really don’t get the sleep and processing the days events that you need – so the result is (for me) that you will be tired a lot of the time, and have some unfinished business in your mind – witch is why I stopped doing it – but it sure was fun for a while.

Wrong forum perhaps? This should be under Metaphysics, Astrology & Psychic Phenomena or Sightings, Reports & Experiences. There's no mentions of Ghosts or Hauntings or The paranormal. Sorry to seem sour today, I'm tired and I might be labeled as Mr. Obvious today.

I can do it on a fairly regular basis. Probably about 1 out of every 20 dreams I can control.

The only ones that I hate are the scary ones. You can control them a little, but the scary element of the dream is almost always uncontrollable. When you wake up they scare you horribly. They scare you much more than a regular nightmare would. Sometimes you will even see the monster or whatever was chasing you in your bedroom for a few seconds as you are waking up.

The last one I had was kinda like a dungeons and dragons party with a twist at the end.. I was walking in a dungeon with a group of 4 other party members. We were using magic and stuff to fight off monsters. We got to the end of the dungeon and defeated the the ruler of it. He was a 30 foot tall demon. I was never scared because I knew my powers were more than a match for him. It's a neat feeling to really have super powers like magic in a dream. It may be a dream but lucid dreams are so real that you think you actually have those powers. I vaporized the demon with my magic, turning it into a floating mist. The mist went up to the ceiling where it formed a rip in the universe. It was like a swirling hole on the ceiling leading to the demons universe. I knew it had to be closed. My friends and I all did our best spells but nothing would close it. Then I got a sudden flash of inspiration from dragonball Z (this is where it gets a little silly lol). I did the Kamehameha wave from dragonball z. I drew my hands back, and started to draw energy into my body. I could actually feel it. After the energy built up I yelled out Kamehameha meha!!! and shot this huge burst of energy at the rift destroying it.

No need to thank me for saving the universe. I do it all the time..hehe

It first started happening to me when I was really little. I had a re-occurring nightmare that used to scare the heck out of me. It was a dream where I was being chased by a man with a gun. The only way to escape him was to leap off the top of this building to get away (don't ask me why, I wasn't in control of what I was doing). The only problem is I am scared of heights, and the leap from the building was high enough to kill me. I would leap off over and over again even though I am scared of heights in real life. I would wake up scared to death, and had this nightmare over and over again for years. One night I had the nightmare but something was different. I was in control!! I knew what was about to happen and it didn't scare me anymore. I knew as soon as I jumped I would wake up, so I had a little fun with it. I jumped off and actually enjoyed the jump this time around. I actually yelled out laughing at the guy chasing me.

I never had that nightmare again after that. Ever since then I can control dreams all the time. When you wake up from a really good lucid dream it is the best feeling in the world. Books or television can't compare to the things I can come up with in my own dreams and for a brief time those imaginary thoughts feel totally real.

I was under the impression that everyone could control their dreams until I started visiting forums like this one.
I first heard of "lucid dreams" last year and was surprised that it was unusual.
I've almost always been able to control my dreams. I do have nightmares, sometimes, where I'm not in control, but those are few and far between.
I can wake up from a dream, make breakfast, get the kids off to school and lay back down and pick up the dream where I left off, sort of like pausing a movie on dvd.
I can lay down to take a nap and choose what I'm going to dream about. Winning the lottery, vacationing in the Bahamas, Johnny Depp!! wink2.gif whatever I choose.
I can't imagine just having random dreams all of the time.

Well, I'm always able to control my dreams no matter what and normally know when I'm dreaming. Except for the ones I've said before with the sleep paralysis. You just have to have a lot of will power, most people who are capable of self hypnosis easily are dreamers like this. When I started gaining control was when I was a child and I was sick of having nightmares everyday lol. The best way to tell if you are dreaming or not, is to simply slightly bite your tongue. If you don't feel a thing, you are dreaming and YOU are in control. If you feel it well, then your not dreaming!

In a dream normally you can not feel anything, sometimes you can when other things happen triggering your brain to feel but, the act of you biting your tongue to see if you are dreaming will make you self aware. In all honesty start doing it in real life (obviously don't bite your tongue hard!) just enough so you can feel something. After doing this for a bit, when you are in a dream you will do this act, and you won't feel anything. Once you have done this you will have unlocked your mind and you will be aware of your dreams most of the time. When I did all this I was very young I think around 7, at the time I did not know what I was doing. I just remembered when I was a child, that you can't feel pain in a dream. From there it progressed, and you learn every little detail of the aspect of life, for example if you are swimming in a dream and you are not holding your breathe, that should trigger something in your head to know that you are dreaming.

These work wonderfully for typical scary nightmares, and for ones that are really scary a lot of them you know it's a nightmare and you want to wake up. If you can control it you can turn it into what ever you want, BUT sometimes it can be something that is just to horrific and you can't even look at it. Just close your eyes, yes close them in the dream. I figured that out as a child by mistake also, as you know when you're sleeping your eyes are already closed for the most part so how does that make sense? Well you do see in your dream, by you telling your eyes to close I think in a sense you are telling your mind to close. You will see just black like if you closed your eyes, and you will wake up.

One of the only problems of dreaming like this all the time (Which I can not undo if I wanted to, except some very very few dreams I don't know are because they are so good) but...if you are aware, most of the time you will wake up and not enjoy your dream because it will not last long. Knowing that when you dream it only lasts 2 minutes, now a dream may seem like hours, but you knowing it's a dream will try to do so much that is just not possible in that time period. A real dream if you don't know you are dreaming are really a bunch of "flash back" images is the best way I can say. And when you wake up you piece everything together. When you are in control you try to do everything in "real time" so you only have a short time to do as you wish. Just know if you can achieve this, there is NO going back, and sometimes you can lose the concept of reality and find yourself thinking you are dreaming when you are not. Also knowing that things are not real in a dream can really lessen the effect and sometimes happiness of a person. From what I've been told is dreaming is the way the mind repairs itself. Even if you don't remember the dreams, that is why if something terrible happened and you go to sleep, for some reason that you just don't know why, you feel better. Well that's why. So I hope I have helped anyone who is truly trying to accomplish this, I did everything honestly by just instinct when I was a child and it has carried on, that is what I did.

Also if you can do this, you are most likely going to be very good at self hypnosis which can come in handy. With me going through everything and being sick everyday and nothing really working I saw a pain management Dr. of a new way. He uses self hypnosis to try to take away pain and teaches kids and adults alike how to, not everyone can but it shows the minds incredible power over the body. He said he has never ever heard of anyone really calming nausia with it or vomiting from something other than motion sickness or anything at my level. But he said he would give it a shot with me and at the very least it would help with my pain. He wanted to write a book on me eventually with it and may want to do a study later on when I am ready. But after our first session he was amazed at how I was just naturally able to do it. I would be able to go away where ever I wanted in self hynposis and not just hear or think, but I would actually 100% see everything. My body 100% relaxed , everything perfect, so we took steps into the impossible with me being able to visually picture inside of my body and calm my self and take away nausia. To his amazement he watched my frail face(i was about 102 pounds then at my worse) to gaining full color.

Now no it hasn't cured me and I am still very ill, but no breakthrough medication has came in, but I have been slowly getting better health wise, but I am sure a huge part of it is me making it better. We got it to a point that I can put myself under within a second, to where I can do it with my eyes open while I am in class to try to get myself fine for a bit longer without ANYONE noticing. Pain though is easy to make go away if you concentrate, he has had patients undergo surgery w/o being put to sleep because they were allergic to anasthesia. I haven't seen him in a while but will again soon so he can document things but he said I know even more than him and there is nothing more he can offer than advice and to document. I have been trying to be able to be under while being in everyday life in a sense multitasking.

And I think I have been doing just that as I have been A LOT better off than I was, yes I am very sick but, I went from being home schooled in highschool not even being able to get out. To being able to attend at least 65-70% of my classes in college and able to do some fun things. Yes I know I went a bit off track here but it just flowed into this and I am very sure the reason I am able to do this is because of how I trained my mind(not knowningly at the time when I was a child). He has told me if I broke a bone if I really wanted to, I could make it not feel a thing. Well I would feel but it wouldn't be pain, because that is concentrated in just one spot, so it is easy. So, I guess this shows the power of the human mind and this is all how I did it. So I hope it helps and if anyone trys it who are healthy people, I can only imagine what you may be able to do. But just be careful and know that is what you truly want, because there is no turning back and you may not see things the same way as you once did, or would like to. I hope this helps =)

Lucid dreaming is fun stuff! I used to do it often, then went through a dry spell and had to learn some of the methods others have mentioned to train myself to do it again. Now it's a pretty regular thing, I remember dreams on a nearly nightly basis (sleep disorder) and control maybe 1/4 of them. There are three great things I've gotten out of lucid dreaming. The first is that I no longer have night terrors - "What, people with no heads?? This must be a dream! I'll make them do the hokey pokey!" The second is that I can do anything I want, it sounds lame, but how fun are super powers? Flying, heck yeah! The last is being able to talk to relatives that are no longer alive. Often I know in the dream it's not right, and they're not supposed to be there, but sometimes I'm not sure if maybe some part of them really is there, and I find myself asking them a lot of questions. Usually they just smile knowingly and pat me on the head or shoulder. Especially my Grandpa, he usually never talks. Condescending dead people... tongue.gif

If anyone's interested, controlling our dreams is, for the most part, a spiritual dead end. Control is really a distraction from any spiritual path.

It's like being handed the complete works of Shakespeare and using the pages to make paper airplanes instead of reading it.

The real power in dreams is to be found when we can become conscious within the dream without trying to control it. What we can do, is ask the dream the most important questions we can and listen to the amazing answers we get. Years of spiritual searching can be concluded in a single night if we have the presence of mind to let the dream speak directly to our conscious awareness.

A couple things: when asking questions of the dream, it is best to find a being within the dream to ask them of, instead of just posing the question in the abstract. Don't be surprised if the first reply you get is something like, "You're crazy" or "I don't know what you're talking about." That's just a manifestation of your own fear and denial. Think of it as the bouncer checking your i.d. at some amazing club you want to get into. Don't be afraid to pressure the dream figure for a reply, "I know who you are, and you know who I am, please, answer my question."

At any point in this kind of dialogue you may experience the dream beginning to fade. What's happening is you've exhausted that level of meaning in the dream and you must either go deeper or wake up--in most cases, going deeper simply means that you "forget" that you're dreaming and the dream narrative reasserts itself without your conscious awareness. If you can maintain your presence of mind, ask the dream figure to help you stay within the dream--even a simple, "Help!" will do the trick, if you really mean it. Now here's the thing: what will most likely happen, is the dream, rather than fading, will shift radically and your consciousness will arrive at a deeper level of meaning within the dream. At this new level, don't be surprised if you're dealing with some pretty heavy stuff about yourself. There's a reason our dreams tend to talk to us in nearly impenetrable allegory and symbol, y'know?

There's so much more to dreaming than gratifying our power fantasies. Give it a try. I promise you, it won't be boring. wink2.gif

Condescending dead people... tongue.gif

LOL I hate when that happens, cuz some dead people can remain silent, and thats just not fair. I have had the dreams where I am flying and I know I am dreaming so I dive into the ocean knowing I wont hit the water, cause I cant swim and that would suck if I really did end up in the water. I have also dreamed that my SUV was rolling over but I controlled it and couldnt wait to hit the pavement. Sounds sick, but its fun. I dream sometimes of dead relatives which can either make me sad, or happy if it "feels" like they are alive. They usually tell me something, but many times I wake and cant remember it, and it bothers me all day..Did you ever have a dream and cannot remember it, but all day long you get quick images then POOF they are gone? Or is it just me that does that? unsure.gif

Ugh, I envy all of you! disgust.gif I haven't had a lucid dream in months or even longer! In fact, I can't remember any dreams I've had very well, all bits and images. I wish I could have great dreams again, I know I have had them in the past, but I wish I could control when and for how long I have these dreams... Even a nightmare would be ok...

Does anyone know or could anyone teach me how I could gain more control of my dreams (or just experience my dreams more fully) ? I would really appreciate it.

maybe you should think about it before you go to bed...lol

Well the steps that Tiger's Man posted are a great start.

The very first thing that you need to do is keep a dream journal and when you wake up before you open your eyes, lay there and think about the dream you just had. Try and remember as much as you can about it. Do this before you open your eyes and bring yourself back into reality.

It's hard to start out, but you'll start to get into the pattern quickly and you'll be surprised at how fast you start remembering your dreams just by keeping a dream journal.

Good luck!

I love the dreams were your up really really high and your balancing precariously on the edge of the building and you realise your dreaming. I always jump after that! tongue.gif

Sometimes I can actually turn off feelings or senses in my dreams like I can turn on or off pain that doesn't really affect me, it just frightens you a bit, smell, and hearing. I can actually feel it when a giant monster or something throws me at high speeds about 2 kilometres! tongue.gif It's exhilirating!

One night it was like the opposite, I was half asleep the whole night.

I could hear what was happening annd I could move but it was impossible no matter how hard I tryed to open my eyes or get up, I could only roll around. And the wierd thing was when I woke up fully I was completely satisfied with my sleep, I wasn't sleepy at all!

Usually I remember them right as I wake up. I think I've kind of conditioned myself to do it that way. But occasionally I'll see or do something that will trigger a memory of a dream I've had the night before and struggle to remember it all, it is frustrating trying to remember that way. yes.gif

The-Doctor: That's where I was awhile back. It was horribly frustrating, and I used some of the techniques described to relearn. Just use what's most convenient for you, or whatever you know you'll remember. Here is a good site about lucid dreaming that describes some techniques, not sure but dont think it's been linked yet.

One of my biggest problems still with lucid dreaming is staying in that state. Sometimes I get excited when I realize I'm lucid and wake up, "Woohoo I'm flying!" *wakes up* hmm.gif

LOL Thanks for link. Every now and then I struggle to remember a dream too and then as I said, get an image and it's less than 1/4 of second or something, then I'm thinking "come on what was it?" Then I realize if I dont remember it, it was not that important anyway. I love the flying dreams, it makes me feel so free and happy TILL I wake up, that is the definite mood killer..Normally I remember every dream in detail, with colors, smells and people. Other times, I just crash and dont know if I dreamed or not. In any case, lucid dreaming rocks.. yes.gif

I have controled my dreams a couple of times, here is what you have to do:

1.[optional] relize that you are dreaming
2. [this is hard] think of something.

it sounds simple, but it is sooooooo hard to do lol!!!!

Today I had a dream that I was in a flood, the water was rising and I was trying to swim to a floating object...it just kept going farther and farther. Then my ex husband was swimming toward me...I thought he was going to help me but he pushed my head under water. Then I woke up....it really sucked. I wish i could of controled that dream...lol
