Ive been a member of this forum for some time, and have mostly been interested in the UFO and Extraterrestrial threads that have been posted.

However, I was just talking with a friend regarding Night Terrors and have found out that she suffers from them too.

The first time that i personally had one was a few years back. I found myself semi-awake at about 1am screaming and kicking.... I truely felt that there was something/someone there trying to attack me. I really have never been so terrified of anything in all my life, it was a blind frenzy by all accounts. I then ran out of the room and locked myself in the bathroom where i felt the entity wouldnt be able to get to me. I finally calmed down but was unable to remember what i would class as a dream, all i could remember was the entity and the screaming. My wife was also quite shaken by this and we just spent the rest of the night awake talking (and me, shaking).

Another time it occured was in a hotel. This time, the event appeared to be focussed upon my wife. She actually jumped out of bed, screaming, eventually awoke and calmed down enough to talk. To our amazement, we found that she had finger mark type bruises upon her upper arm. We decided that although difficult (but not impossible) to reproduce herself due to the angle, this was probably made by her gripping her own arm as I was facing away from her at the time and was unlikely to have been caused by me. The mark consisted of what I would describe as 3 fingertip marks and a thumb mark. She cannot remember any 'dream' leading up to this episode. A similar feeling of terror was apparent to both of us during this event.

The final time (to date) again appeared to focus upon myself and left us both with similar feelings to the other two occasions.

Now, to my friend..... She has had similar experiences but instead of feeling that there is an entity trying to attack her, she finds herself in a bedfull of snakes or spiders. She can see the animals in full detail as if the light is on in the room. It takes some time for her husband to fully wake her. She also has some scary dreams, but she has explained these as very different. She cant remember any dreams leading up to the episodes unlike regular dreams which she remembers in full detail.

In the past year I have been diagnosed with ME (CFS), but at the time of my experiences, I was healthy (I believe). My friend was diagnosed with ME (CFS) a few years back, before I knew her. Is it possible that these events are related to the illness? there is a lot going on in the brain, and ME has been proven to be an illness exhibiting among physical effects, a variety of psychosymatic symptoms. Having read through a thread on a night-terror forum, it would appear that a large cross section of people have VERY similar experiences focussing specifically around black, shaddowy figures and snakes etc. This thread sums it up pretty well http://www.nightterrors.org/SMF/index.php?topic=65.0

Doesn't your last paragraph really sum it up? You need to be talking to a physician about this, and not tossing the dice with some of the stuff that might be offered here.

Good luck with it, to all three of you.

Exactly.

lol - I wasnt looking for a diagnosis, I already have one of those wink2.gif

What I find strange is there are people without any type of known conditions that suffer from these effects, and remember, 2 of us has a similar condition, one does not.

If you take a look at that link that i included in my post, the point I was trying to make is, why do snakes, rats, spiders and shaddowy figures feature in so many cases?

night terrors don't have to link to any diagnosis. I have them and they increase with stress. huge spiders coming in and out of the ceiling is one of the features that happens. I have sat up , talked , screamed , kicked , punched, grabbed , walked with or without all my bedding and have even ran.

for a while I was having them everynight to some degree. it's been a while since I've had one.

stress itself can bring on a night terror for anyone on occassion. just like anyone is capable of having a seizure without being 'epileptic'. sometimes the conditions are just right. sometimes it's a reaction to medication.

Sorry to hear that you were having them everynight, it must have been real rough! ohmy.gif

But there you go again, the spiders. My friend isnt even afraid of spiders, yet there they are in her terrors. Its interesting as to how they get there, what triggers the mind to produce these spiders and for what reason?

I think my wife's issue was stress. She was having an uncertain time at work at the time so that may have contributed to bring the effect of a night terror.

Looking into it, this is most likely to happen in the early 'NREM' stages of sleep, which occurs for up to an hour before REM sleep starts. The later into that NREM cycle that the terror happens, the more severe it is.

That's the scary thing about night terrors...You really can't tell if something is there or not until you are fully awake. I'm sorry you are suffering from them, I have known people that have those every time they doze off...it isn't a pleasant sleep ever it seems.

I agree with this ........
