Well, I guess I want to learn about new things and the subject of White Noise has fascinated me at the same time scared the hell out of me. lol, What do you all know/think about this? I really do not know that much at all heh.

After I seen the movie I got interested in White Noise. Here's some science for ya ...

White Noise

As far as ghost hunting and the use of white noise ... well I think it would hinder the investigations findings a bit. I mean white noise is just a frequency and frequencies have dips and rises cause little fluctuations. So people hear the change of sound and think it's a ghost rather than someone outside using some kind of power source thus changing the frequency of the surroundings. It's an opinionated thing and some people believe it's a good thing to use white noise and others don't. Whatever works for ya. Look up white noise on Google or Yahoo ... that'll show ya lots of things ... but just type your questions ... Just "White Noise" will give you movie listings. Go with ..." Can ghost communicate through white noise" or something along thoes lines.

I sleep with white noise. If I don't, I hear stuff I don't want to hear. Sometimes I hear music and people mumbling. I can never make out what is being said, however, sometimes I can hear a voice very clearly. That's why I need the white noise, to drown out the other stuff. I've lived with this my entire life. So I agree with ZEB when he says it's to help put your mind at ease.

Hmmm, thanks for all the info yea I did see the movie but you know how fake movies can be. I wanted to see what it really is and how people do use it. That's really interesting that a lot use it to go to sleep easily and put your mind at ease. That's pretty cool.

The problem with white noise is it can be hard to filter out from the background to actually hear EVPs. OTOH, noise-cancelling headphones use white noise to reduce background sounds and those work well for EVP research.

We used white noise on a recent investigation of an old asylum building. WOW! It was like drawing moths to a flame! It generated a lot of very unusual experiences and some good EVPs.

But overall, white noise isn't too practical on an investigation.

BTW, the move "White Noise" was really more about ITC, which is extremely questionable at best.

I agree..When I heard what I know now as white noise from my alarm clock even when it was unplugged I knew it was something talking. When I used my older digital voice recorder, I nearly passed out when I heard that disembodied voice. <shuddering> You guys have ONE of the best EVP's I ever heard, and my son still talks about it LOL...JN-

and also to tune recording rooms...I see you use filters to take out certain freqs...so you can hear
your evp. I guess that might make sense,,,BUT no moths..here,lol..BUT..you do know what white
noise and pink noise really is?? i never see anyone talk about pink noise..just a lower pitch..

I was so glad when the movie white noise came out. I was listening to evps before the movie came out so I already knew what it was all about that made it so exciting. The first horror movie based on EVP! That was awesome! The evps that you hear on the DVD menu are real. Go to www.aa-evp.com. White noise got permission to display their evps on the movie menu and trailor. During my research I found out why white noise is used as a background for evps. A spirit can not talk as we do. They have to have sound to make out what they are saying. Spirits need energy and soundwaves help them alot. White noise and pink noise is ideal for that. ITC work the same way, but even better because you can get sound and an image. EVPs are easier to pick up though in my opinion.

Yea, I think this is all pretty cool and interesting. But I think you have to have a pretty strong mine if you are doing any of this on your own. I can easily see this driving a person into insanity. But this is cool stuff and gives people more tools to try to communicate with the other side during paranormal events or other things. The only thing though is if this can be a "port" for them, couldn't this serve as another possible gate for bad things to happen or be set free. Kind of like a weegee board?

I beleive so because it is communicated with the dead just like the weegee board....but the only diffrence is the weegee board pulls the spirit out. It makes some angry because some are called against their will. It's like do not bother me!!! A ghosthunter was attacked one time....her name is Mary...she was doing an evp but she was in a haunted place. Was she attacked because she was there or because of the evp? or both? It is hard to know. I have had evps but never from a haunted place. I have had an evp just standing on my front porch! I have not got all my equipment yet but I will post my evps for you. I just want to go to 2 places old bartow courthouse here in FL and the cementary close to were I live(50ft from my front porch.) I won't be by myself though

Zeb I remember when I got my first evp...it was so neat. It sounded so clear! You would be amazed.

ITC is highly questionable at best. Waaaaay too easy to pick up stray TV signals or just plain old matrixing.

As for white noise itself, I suppose given enough time and research one could more narrow down the frequencies that work best but I don't know anyone working on such a project. Would have to be very well documented.

You are right they are questionable unless you get a real good image of someone you know personally that is passed over. I would rather get that image than an evp.....well depending how good of quality you get of the evp. Sometimes its ifie

Im not convinced, pareidolia and cross modulation seems like the most logical explanation.

This background white noise is recorded, and replayed. If something "interesting" is heard, the sound and pic sample is isolated, filtered, enhanced, and otherwise changed as much as necessary in order to make the "interesting" sounds or visuals into something vaguely intelligible. And when I say vaguely, boy do I mean it!

To bad that Meek and ONeil, Spiricom, who promised direct two-way communication with the dead, never made it. How cool would it be to call up my dead grandmother, but then again, this is exactly what keeps this idea of white noise and EVP alive.

The - What if.....

I've seen a video of ITC once that looked interesting. It's hard to say what really happened, but based on the case I'd say anything was possible. It was a credible group doing the investigation so I give it some credibility.

To convince me it would have to be a darn clear picture. And even then I'd want my instruments with me to prove someone isn't transmitting the image.

I see what you are saying....i have never experianced an ITC before. But if I did...It would have to be clear (or looking straight at me saing my name or something....lol. I'd probably run the other WAY....but I have had evps before that is very convincing. The reason why because of what they were saying and what they were saying just fit the situation. Here at work a man died the day after x-mas of last year. I was standing outside not trying to get a evp....i was recording a message to my fiancee....(recorded dairy on my cell) I work at a phospate plant so there is noise that sounds like white noise...like...ssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhh...because of the pressure release from the sulferic plant....as I was recording I paused...thinking about what to say next....an evp came in and said...i was smushed then I started talking again...in the back ground you can here a man scream....the man was ran over by a forklift. So I am pretty convinced when it comes to evps. I guess some people that never really experainced or done it themselves can relate. I mean if you ask a spirit on a recorder what there fav color is and thay say orange then that radio freguency coming though must be hearing the question....lol.....thanks for the reply

Okay, can someone explain to me why I find white noise soothing and I can only go to sleep with it on to drown out the other things I can hear? If I'm understanding most of you, white noise is what helps spirits to communicate. I'm using white noice so I can't hear any of that stuff, if you know what I mean. I've dealt with this all my life. I think there's more to EVPs than needing white noise to hear them. Am I way off base here?

I for one knows it goes way way past white noise..that may be a 1-st stepping stone in the process of
creating a frequency for them to unfold...but like mathamtics,,this is,, 1 + 1 = 2 the simpliest of the
created frequency to start the process ,..

But it does sooth..because of the frequecies that white noise iis made up of..
Do you all know what the major everyday use of white noise is??
