Full Version: Moving out because of ghosts?
Unexplained Mysteries Discussion Forums > Unexplained Mysteries > Ghosts, Hauntings & The Paranormal
Uh-Oh
My cousin brought this to my attention the other day when we were flipping through channels and landed on a ghost documentary. She said that she's watched a lot of documentaries about demonic forces that terrorize families for months and they deal with it for those months. "I am not going to give up this house!" "It was too good a deal!" "It's so pretty!" They say they didn't want to move out. Eventually, the 'demonic force' gets worse and they call in someone to exorcise or cleanse the house. Once the demonic entity is gone, they move out.

I realized this after it was pointed out to me. I never really thought about it before, but it's true. A lot of people will move out once the demonic force is gone from the house. *Note I didn't say all.*

So...why is it that people will put up with an angry ghost, demon, or whatever it is for months and then when they get rid of it, they leave? hmm.gif It just doesn't make much sense after you've stayed there and battled the evil for so long to just pack up and leave once the house is nice and quiet again.

Why do you think people do this? The only thing I can think of is that maybe they're afraid that it will come back. What's your take on this?

Not sure if this is the right place for this, so if it isn't, please move it. Thanks!
chrisfreak
Hahaha, that's pretty funny

Did the family move out right away after the demon get ridden or they move out like a year after?
coldethyl
I guess hypothetically speaking it could be because they can't stand the memories of what happened?

I don't know, it's a good question. You'd think after they 'won' they'd want to stay.

Uh-Oh
Usually soon after. You know how there's always those things at the end of the documentary that tells you how the family is doing now? They'll say something like "The Wilsons moved out soon after..." or "The Johnsons moved on to find a new house within the month..."

I take those documentaries with a grain of salt anyway. They always say they change things to protect the family's identity.
Uh-Oh
It could be the memories, but I think that staying there for a month or more while the entity terrorizes you is worse than any memories you'd have later. That's just me though.

I've heard that they change names and locations. If they've changed the location already, why would they have to say they've moved? I can see them changing facts, but why add them? But you're right coldethyl, you never know what is true or false when you see it on TV.

I agree.

If I'm going to stay there when my fridge is saying 'Zool' and my windows are bleeding, I'm sure as heck not going to move out when everything goes quiet! It doesn't make sense.

And IMO when something doesn't make sense it's usually not true.

But that's just me and Judge Judy. LOL

Seriously, it confuses me really.

I'm not going to say it's not true because I've seen some people do some very weird things for absolutely no reason. laugh.gif

Well, my take on why they would leave is yea the memories. Also even if the demon or what ever is exorcised, sometimes the evil taint stays. It will forever be tainted by evil which can cause some families to leave if this is true. For some the evil has tainted them so they may move about 5 times and it doesn't get any better. Just because the demon or what ever isn't there anymore, does not mean the evil that it left in scares go away.

Once my Demonic was banished and the home exorcised I was told it "might" be helpful to move. There are a few reasons. First, the Demonic "might" come back to them during times of strife or illness, OR it could be attached to the land, which leaves them vulnerable to another attack, which is the same in my case. Secondly, I have to agree with them because I still live here and I find myself still looking, listening etc due to the fact I got so accustomed to it, plus I am scared it could come back. I am unable to relocate at this time, but once I am more financially stable I am so out of here. Each room carries it's own horrid memories, and some of that sticks in my mind from time to time. Lastly, I keep lights on all the time even when I go to bed, because when I went to bed is when I was tired, and vulnerable and the activity escalated..It makes sense to me, for them to start over in a new place, no memories whatsoever. Starting over is more healthy for them..JN

It might be for the fact they might think it'll return. Even if it's gone, the family members could be half expecting something to happen at any time, which can make them really jumpy, when by hearing an everyday crash such as a window being blown shut.

I can understand not having enough money to move, this is probably the case for some people, but I seriously doubt that is the case for everyone.

Once you get rid of the entity, you suddenly have enough money to move in the next month? o.O Why didn't you put that money to use earlier and get out of there before it got bad? I'm not talking about the move-out-a-year-later people, the ones that really do move out within the next month. It just seems strange that they'd gather up money that quickly after the cleansing.

I just don't see how someone could fight so hard, then turn tail and run once there's nothing there. Kinda defeats the purpose, really, but that's just me.

Besides, if it traumatized them that bad, I think the sound of a window being blown closed anywhere would make them jump out of their skin.

Good luck on finding a new house. thumbsup.gif

Thanks. The issue is, during a Demonic haunting you cannot move as it will follow, no matter where you go, who you visit and whatever you do. If they can afford to get out of there, I dont blame them at all. I guess you have to live through it to understand. Most folks who have Demonic hauntings DO move as soon as possible. After going thru sheer Hell for years, its all about being and feeling "safe." I know people that just up and left a house without ever selling it, that is how people react to such a horribly evil lifestyle for so long. I am not afraid anymore at anyone else's home, but if a loud noise or crash happens he, my heart races and all I can think is "OMG ITS BACK." They are not running, they are starting over..I am happy for them and you should try to be too..JN

You're right. I've never gone through it and I honestly hope I never do, but I have a very stubborn streak in me. If I'm going to fight for something, I'm going to fight for it for keeps. No point in wasting your time fighting for something you don't even want, you know?

You got rid of the demonic entity in your house, right? If it did come back, you'd be able to see the signs easily and call someone in to kick it back out. Or get someone to train you so you can do it yourself. Right?

I suppose I'm happy that the entity doesn't harass them any more, that does have to be a horrible thing to go through, but moving out afterwards simply seems like a waste of everyone's time and money.

Edit: Reading back, I noticed I sounded a little rude. Sorry about that, I'm not trying to be.

I saw something like that too. The spirit actually goes after the teenage boy that was sick with cancer and made him go crazy!! The family put him away in a mental hospital Still did not move) But that had someone exorsice the house and they left. They moved!!! I was like what???????? disgust.gif

I was thinking about this thread on my drive home from work and applying logic to the question, and one reason I could come up with to sell a house after going thru something like that would to be to try and get a high price for it for the novelty value.

Like the people who pay a higher price for something on Ebay because they believe it to be haunted? Same idea.

What do you think?

Was that the one where their basement used to be a morgue or something like that and then after they find out it was a morgue, they move their son right down there?

"Hey guys! There's a demon in my house! He'll completely screw up your life and scare you out of your skin!"
"Dude! That sounds awesome! Let's buy it!"
I never even thought of that. There's a lot of thrill seekers and ghost hunters out there who would probably love to have a haunted house.

LOL Actually houses with a "famous" history such as Sallies House, Amityville etc do sell for a much higher price but due to the media hype. But when someone sells a house (at least in this state) the seller is mandated to disclose the fact it was haunted to the Realtor, or new buyer. Those were not actual demons because they did once live, but they were pure evil. The fact the parents slept in their cozy beds, and the sister is wonderful, but to put a child with Cancer and his little brother in a morque, cold basement is just ignorant..But in any case, it is a true story. I hope you never go through it either. The thought of it coming back makes me completely ill, and horrified. Does not matter if I can see the signs and know what to do, because every single day and night was something horribly different.. NO WAY could I go thru another..Its not a waste of time and money to them, its their peace of mind and you cannot put a price on that...JN- no.gif

I was thinking this exact thing. I'm sure there are folks who would pay big money for a haunted house - especially a televised haunted house.

Yes that was it! It was a good show though...but that must really suck for the boy. his parents thought something was wrong with his brain. the doc said he was fine,....until he starting pulling covers off his cousin and attacking her. cool show though.

Alot of people don't have the funds to move out. But the ones that do....it doesn't make sense to me except that most demons or dark spirits will usually stick with the family whether they move or not. I guess most families move out because it harbors bad memories for them. Make sense?

That not is entirely true. Once the home is exorcised the Demonic is sent back to where it belongs, wherever that may be, it doesnt follow them or stick with them, except before the banishing/exorcism. If I had the funds I would be so out of here. But I use prayer, and stay busy, and having some cosmetic work done inside to make it feel differently to me, and it will look prettier too. That is all I am able to do at this time. JN- yes.gif
