I'm immortal.

No man can be my equal.

I have inside me blood of kings.

These words are from the band queen.

Princes Of The Universe

Queen

Here we are, born to be kings
We’re the princes of the universe
Here we belong, fighting to survive
In a world with the darkest powers

And here we are, we’re the princes of the universe.
Here we belong, fighting for survival
We’ve come to be the rulers of your world

I am immortal, I have inside me blood of kings
I have no rival, no man can be my equal

Take me to the future of your world

Born to be kings, princes of the universe
Fighting and free, got your world in my hand
I’m here for your love and I’ll make my stand
We were born to be princes of the universe
No man could understand, my power is in my own hand

Ooh ooh ooh ooh
People talk about you
People say you’ve had your day
I’m a man that will go far
Fly the moon and reach for the stars
With my sword and head held high
Got to pass the test first time, yeah
I know that people talk about me I hear it every day
But I can prove you wrong 'cause I’m right first time
Yeah, yeah

Alright, let's go, let's go
Watch this man fly
Bring on the girls

Here we are, born to be kings
We’re the princes of the universe
Here we belong, born to be kings
Princes of the universe
Fighting and free, got the world in my hands
I’m here for your love and I’ll make my stand
We were born to be princes of the universe

So what is your point?

No. I'm sorry, I wish it were true, but no, immortality is not possible. At least not now, and not in the physical sense, anyways.

I wonder if that would be wisdom, if you stop to think about it. The Eco system of our planet could not deal w/the population issues if that happened. It would likely "Kill" our planet - thus kill us. Death is a part of life for a lot of different reasons. It is not something that should be feared, for it's not the 'end'. I personally believe it's actually the real beginning of who and what we are .... This is just the womb for that life and death is the birthing into that realm. But that is my personal belief -

death wont be impossible it'll be inevitable as ever.Without death the earth would be inbalanced, trees and maggots feed on your dead body, in turn they are fed on by bigger predators...e.t.c.
you can never "cheat death" because death is definate.

Immortality is worse than mortality.

For example: If you were inmortal an you got a dreadful deasise that was incurable and caused a lot of pain your stuck with it forever.
ships-cat
I think we need to define terms.

If 'immortal' simply means extending the human lifespan indefinately, then yes this is possible. It's just a matter of a bit more research into genetics. Ageing has a specific cause (something to do with DNA chains shortening as they reproduce). If that cause can be tackled, then ageing could be halted. (and possibley even reversed).

If 'immortal' means invincible, unkillable etc, then this is not possible within the realms of science as we currently envisage it.

thank you.

There was a story that roughly went along these lines.

"A man did not want to die and he prayed to God, begging that he would live forever. God granted him his request. 2000 years later, the man was begging God to let him die".

To be honest would anyone really want to live in this physical existence forever, with no hope of leaving?

I guess if someone does not believe that "we move on to another place" after death, perhaps this would be their wish. Personally, I would not want to remain here forever and ever no.gif

Since I am not sure there is an afterlife, I would take living forever.

Dunno.. I'm allways wondering what will happen next (in the physical world, not the afterlife). I'd like to see the first Mars landings etc, but at my age am currently unlikely to do so. The idea of being able to see "what happens next" indefinately has some attractions.

Well to thoes who look at life on the positive side .... you can see the technology that arises within the next few hundred years. You can understand answers to so many questions we have today. As bad as this sounds, there's more to life than loved one's to a lot of people. Sure they're great and you love them ... but after they die you're fine. You miss them ... life goes on tough right? So why would that change in the future? Just my views I guess ... But I'd like to live for a few hundred years and see what comes of technology.

LoL ... pathetic human life ... someone needs a hug and to be told he's loved.

Would you do it? Are you afraid of the Devil? Is there something that he could do that couldn't happen to you here? Everyday in this world you are dealing with God and everyday you are also dealing with the Devil. They are part of each of us. Some days people show love ... "God" ... some days not so much ... "Devil". I think that that's a good way to look at it instead of a big place way up in the sky or way down in the earths core. We've gone both ways and nothing yet. So cheer up.

Also I've been curious, if u are immortal, do you mean like you have a force field think around you that no one can get through or you regenerate fast? because what if i drop an atomic bomb in you or put a grenade in your brain. you WOULD blow up right...?

Ok .......... I'm sure your family would reproduce and you'd love others in your family? Am I right?

Also .. life isn't a video game, so I can't see a "forcefield" around you ... Actually I'm not even going to bother ... "drop an atomic in you or put a grenade in your brain". I guess some of us wouldn't have to worry about our brain taking up the space in our head.

Thats not true at all. Immortality is indeed possible and inevitable for some existances. It takes energy to duplicate information and the duplication of information also creates energy. Entropy can threaten immortality but not nessecarirly prevent it.

Ahoy,
Immortality is scientifically possible. Eternal youth is also scientifically possible. All you would need to do is figure out a way of stopping the normal aging process and damage done to the body at the molecular level as well as damage done by illness. I recall reading someplace that some turtles are, in a way, immortal. It appears that turtles don’t die of old age. Turtles die from illness or accident. Will humans ever achieve immortality? I hope not. I think immortality would consist largely of boredom. Just my thoughts.

I have looked into this subject extensively and yes in a physical sense we can be immortal something like in the movie the 6th day just not quite as simple. Using nanobotts they will be able to take a sort of picture of your mind at a point in time and download it into an artificial memory like a hard drive. With technology of cloning the storage of your DNA they will be able to make an exact duplicate of you with your memories and everything. I have heard this will be possible within the next 30 years

The question is will this thing really be you? This is where my faith steps in and says no, it will be missing your soul. On the other hand the soul is just a form of energy and man has gotten pretty good at manipulating energy. The last part is just a thought. (a scary one if you ask me)

I doubt it. People are living longer today with better food and better health care. Maybe we're not worthy of this knowledge you posess ... but I'm sure if I looked it up on the net I'd find your source. Another claim from someone who needs time to go look up his info. Death is only the spirit transferring form body to body. So sooner of later your immortal soul is going to get tired of that body…

Spot on! As i noted on other threads, a combination of cloning, and memory storage/uploading/downloading, are already either technically possible, or very close to it. iI usually refer to a generation to be safe, but given the rate of scientific progress, i think 30 years is a good bet. As to ,will it be you .Why not? Both the physical body, and the mental process, will have originated with you, and if they continue on, in a new organic body, they should be you. Some psychological adjustments may be necessary, but the human mind is very resilient in matters of life and death.

Another possibility is to extend a healthy lifestyle out to a biological norm of about 125 years. This seems to be when cell breakdown is irreversible. However, I think we will bypass this, also achievable, goal for the bigger one of a life of several centuries at least. While i am not that old yet, i am already finding that my physical body is the limiting factor in my life, while my mind shows no signs of boredom or ennui. I would love another 50-100 years to watch the future unfold and more of life's mysteries become clearer.

The next generations will probably not know cancer, or heart disease, as vaccines and nano machines eliminate these from our bodies. Alzheimers has been shown to be "curable." Genetic engineering will eliminate many inherited "dieases". If you eliminate accidental deaths from the equation, women born today, in modern societies, have a life expectancy approaching 100, at the present time.

A Faraday cage could be set up and used to enclose the body of a dying person and the embryo of his or her clone. The cage would have to be energized and remain charged until a month or so after the clone is born. The dying person could be taken off life support at sometime between the first trimester and birth. This may ensure that the dying person's soul has no alternative destination other than the body of his or her own soulless clone.

This is a little off-topic, but it has plagued me since Dottie the Lamb was well-advertised:
Cloning Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, from the DNA of His own blood would have been a very insightful way for Him to foretell of His own "Second Coming." In who's clone lab does the real Shroud of Turin reside?

Do we really want to go down this path though? I understand the bioengineering and the physics that will work to make man truly immortal, but if you truly believe that the soul is needed in this equation, then you understand that the soul is truly immortal do you really want to give man the power over that soul.

Cloning Jesus from his DNA? Not like I go to church every Sunday or for lack of a better term, I’m not a bible thumper, but the first time Jesus was here God put him here. He was created by God. If we clone him he will be created by man. We may just be creating an antichrist. He will not be of God he will be of man.

True immortality is for ever, that is infinity in time, and the mind is finite there for it can-not contemplate infinity.

Basically with our finite view of the universe and time how can we make a judgment on something we cant even begin to understand.

My example was only one possible method to the question that you raised regarding soul entrapment and transference. I seriously doubt that it would work. Regardless of how I feel, man will govern the souls of man if and when that ever becomes possible. They govern everything else -- the physical, mental, and emotional.

Only His physical shell would be created by man. Again, this is only an example. An example that could be done practically and still fulfill the prophecy. Unfortunately, outlawing cloning will not guarantee that all governments and their scientists will stop.

First off why would you want to live forever. That just means you make friends then see them age and die right before your eyes.(I wouldn't be able to do it way to painful). Second out of all the movies where they are immortal does it look like they are happy. That answer would be no. Third as of this moment it is impossible to live forever. Death is inevitable you will die. I believe you have three options after you die. 1)Reincarnation 2)Heaven 3)Ghost. But that is just my opinion.

Living Forever is a Beautiful thing to see countless centuries to be in love with life is just what immortality is all about. You have a choice whether you want to live or die you have two paths to chose from physical immortality or death road. You want to live forever all you have to do is just pray to god and keep asking him that you want to live forever with god all things are possible. To be able to see never ending sun horizons
in the mornings you'll be able to make many contributions to life. Why give up all your existense all because you believe no one else will want to live with you forever. God created us to live not to die physical immortality is possible. Don't worry the earth won't get to overcrowded with immortals. There's plenty of room on earth to live in. If you watch your friends age and die just pay them their respects they made their choice of death over life. Make some new friends and spread physical immortality around. There's many ways to achieve physical immortality. You want to travel to the stars to new galaxies see universes you want to meet new civilizations. Then say this decree outloud In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, through his blood, fire, water, and Spirit, I receive glory, honor, and immortality by imparting his now-blood, liquid streams of living light into my blood. My whole spirit by faith, soul by works, body by hope is now being preserved blameless until the coming of the Lord. When I decree a thing, it is established unto me; and your light shines upon my ways. I decree that the full manifestation of the kingdom of God from within me now come forth. I decree that every atom within my earthly, physical body bring forth health, light, life, and immortality. My light is now coming forth as the morning, and my health is springing forth speedily, and my righteousness goes before me. Your glory is my rear guard. For I am made in the image of Elohim, after Elohim's likeness. I have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. I am helping to bring about the revelation and restoration of all things which you have spoken by the mouth of all your holy prophets since the world began.

Seems like something out of paganism beliefs to me! If so good luck with that.

death wont be impossible it'll be inevitable as ever.Without death the earth would be inbalanced, trees and maggots feed on your dead body, in turn they are fed on by bigger predators...e.t.c.
you can never "cheat death" because death is definate.

Except that we will begin to travel and colonize other spacial. While we won't have FTL we will be physically immortal allowing us to survive the long journey most likely in some sort of induced hibernation. The Earth won't be imbalanced and natural reproduction will be banned as we begin to clone and genetically enhance the human body to survive harsh environments on other worlds like Mars and other Earth like planets around near by stars not to mention moons around planets in our solar system like Europa.

I read this really interesting Sci Fi book once... on how they managed to download minds... souls???? into available bodies... eg cloned bodies....you could send your mind... memories..etc to other planets...to the available bodies there... or as one of the punishments... eg jail sentences of those times ...or to earn extra credit..was that you had to loan/hire/lease out your body to another... they had your details/image recorded on some sort of computer program for an agency...( like a modern dating service)...

So.. eg.. if you wanted to travel to another star system...planet... you looked up a scenario... leased or cloned body of choice... then beamed your personality out for the time being... your original body would be kept in some form of kryo.. coma storage... or you could lease it out too... (like time share).... if your earthly time was up... you could clone a new body... make the any prefered adjustments... and download yourself to it...

It may have been similar to what the ancient Egyptians were hoping for!!!!

cool.gif It was a cool book !!!

I do suppose imortality could work that way... thumbsup.gif

Then you hear about 'walk-ins'.... where a soul is ready to give up it's body... or is traumatized... and another 'soul' takes over...

By the time this happens humanity will be above sex as we further ourselves with the ultimate goal of perfecting ourselves. Fact is by this time people won't care anymore about sex and petty emotions, we will become benevolent, rational and logical being far beyond what we can imagine now. Essentially we will evolve and branch as we begin to colonize the galaxy, we will no longer be human beings.

Downloading your mind to a computer or new bodies does not make you immortal, you die still and only create a copy of yourself. The key to immortality is cybernetics, genetic engineering and nanotechnology.
