The strangest thing happened tonight when I was making my grass matt. All of a sudden a deep and very loud grunting noise from about fifty yards away in the bush brought me to my feet and put the hairs up on the back of my neck. It repeated four times and I have to say sounded…..wait for it….just like a large gorilla! No, I’m not kidding. Hopefully I’m not losing it! But I swear. That’s what it sounded like. Not like a bear at all. Like a big gorilla.
Source *Scroll down to Day 5*
This story was brought to my attention upon visiting one of my bookmarks which documents bigfoot sightings and encounters (
BFRO.net). They arrange reports into 'Class A' or 'Class B' categories. 'Class A' reports document visual sightings. 'Class B' reports document sounds, stalkings, anything but a direct sighting of the creature. In most of the reports in which individuals claim to hear grunts or howls, they say it has caused an usual surge of fear in their bodies and say exactly what Les Stroud (Survivorman) said; "put the hairs up on the back of my neck". Even from avid outdoorsmen and who know just about every creature and sound to expect and generally don't spook easy. Just to let you know, this website is run by credible and educated people which include professors, police officers, military personal, ect.

Good post! I like Les Stroud and Survivorman is entertainging and informative. Very interesting that someone like him would be a bit confused as to what he heard.

I love watching Survivorman. It was interesting as a few weeks ago I was wondering what he would do if he encountered a Bigfoot or any other cryptid along the way of his journeys.

Interesting... I've been captivated by Les Stroud on occasion too. He's done some interesting shows. I have noticed that he does seem to spook easily (and probably justifiably too). However, it does seems like he spends a lot of his overnight segments awake and freaking about about things that go bump in the night.

Survivorman is awsome and I would have to say if he heard something and didn't recognize it one has to wonder. The guy is pretty much is an expert on all north american wildlife. I remember when me and my older cousin went camping in B.C. on the side of a mountain (no camp ground) and at about midnight he took off and left me there for about an hour to see what I would do. I was scared as hell and started to hear lots of things but then again I was about 10. I use to live in the Kootneys, the heart of bigfoot country and yes there were sounds I couldn't recognize but I never saw anything but bears deer that sort of thing.

I've seen that show once or twice, as well, it can be informative. I....well, the sadistic part of me....just wish he would have ventured a little further out to see what it might have been.

I'm by-in-large a skeptic, but BF is the one thing that if it turns out to be true/real, it won't surprise me at all.
My family is from WA, my grandparents had a ranch on the Eastern WA/E. Canadian border in the 60-late 80's... my grandmother was fairly certain she had an encounter with a bi-pedal creature she absolutely could not identify. She was a no-nonsense, wilderness savvy woman (she grew up in N. Dakota and lived in rural WA her adult life).
Dunno, BF is simply the one thing I think could possibly exist. Living in WA I can see how people would catch a glimpse of the creature every so often, but never actualy find remains or find one running around at the local ski resort or mountain lodge. The Snoqualmie, Baker, Olympic, Wenatchee, Yakima and Rainier forests are SO incredibly dense and unexplored, it would be easy to see how something could hide out and never be spotted or rarely spotted.

He doesn't have any crew with him, however, he does have a safety radio with him and a medical team that's at a base camp near where they drop him off. He used it in the Sahara desert episode because he was completely out of water and was so dehydrated he'd stopped sweating... that's an indication that you're doomed if you don't get hydrated pronto. They came and picked him up.

Ok, sorry jerseyredeye...
In this case, fixed means what you wrote was wrong in my opinion so I "fixed" it. Such as "Bigfoot exists" then someone quotes it but adds "Bigfoot doesn't exist". Everybody should have read the thread and those who did would see that it was a joke or something else, but not malicious. I didn't do it to make you angry or upset, I did it as a joke. I won't do it again on this site, but there are many cases of it at such places as this:
Link (NBA website). You can look there for examples if you're confused or want to see ways of dealing with the stress of what just happened.
I don't think either of them are fixed, as in, they're in a studio or are fake in some way.
To anybody who felt misguided by what I quoted from jerseyredey, here is what was actually said:

Thats so cool you know where Nakusp is, not to many do. It takes me about 5 1/2 hours to get there thats doing about 20 km over the limit and if I hit the ferry just past Revelstoke right on time. I am surprised about how many stories I hear from loggers, hikers and guys from B.C. hydro even that swear they have heard or seen something but don't have camera's ready. I to would be guilty of that as I go into the back country quit often on hikes or on my dirtbike and hardly do I bring a camera nor have it handy. It wasn't a sighting. He heard mysterious grunts that did not fit the profile of any known creature to that area and made the hair on the back of his neck stand on end. The closest description he provided was that of a gorilla and did not go as far as calling it a Sasquatch. He might be trying to save his career and avoid redicule.

Yupp. There are many Native Americans and other tribespeople who are 100% certain they exist and have lived along side of these creatures for centuries. Most of the relationships were not described as friendly and told how the creatures would steal food and livestock. To them, it was an evil spirit that was a sign of badluck.

I love BC too, but I live in WA.
I've come across black bear, cougar, a moose mama and her babe, coyotes of course, fox... the wildlife is abundant. I usually trek around on horseback up there. It's the best vacation EVER. And I've been all over the world. I'm Pacific Northwest girl to the core. I've yet to see footie up there or anything that would come close... but moose snort and grunt kinda funny.

OOps missread it.
But still. I've heard bears and bears don't make the same sounds as gorillas.
The ones near Fairbanks are said to be white with red eyes, some are more natural colors. One friend of mine (I'm not sure to believe her on this account though since she's known to knock back a few now and then) said she saw one jump a roll of hay, then a few minutes later she told me it picked it up to throw it.
And if it was where she was saying it was... THe experimental farm for UAF has a huge hay field and the rolls get to be a good 12 to 15 feet tall.

I don't know why this would be considered a sighting, or even a possible sighting.
From what I read it just seems as if the people who are reading his blog are coming up with the conclusion themselves, he never actually says he thought the noises were coming from a big foot, he said a gorilla yes, simply just to help describe what it sounded like.
Some may think Les spooks easily, but he gets spooked by real dangers things that can actually hurt him, I don't see him sitting up at night in fear of spirits&orbs.
His fear of the bugs, snakes, scorpions probably keeps him from being stung or bitten if he didn't have those fears he would be careless with his actions and it would lead to disaster.
Like he said, it was probably just a bear.
He does these sorta of trips often and is well aware that lack off food sleep water and being in the sun for long periods can cause anxiety paranoia hallucinations and so forth.
While in those conditions it would be easy for any sound to get distorted.
I just hope this doesn't get around and people are assuming he actually thinks he saw a big foot, he already has enough skeptics.

No where does it say he seen anything. It was a description of a sound and feeling reported by many others who claim to have encountered one of these creatures. Also, nothing is being called final. That's why it says "
