Hi
I have been searching for more information about this, but was suprised to find that this little story never really gained popularity in US
It seems to be more spread in Europe.
Anyway, here it goes. During the Apollo 15 mission , French national-TV station had a direct feed of sound from Houston, and was listening live
to broadcasts from Moon.
Anyway, there was static, and at one point they could hear a man say the following sentance, now I have no idea how to properly pronounce this, I'll just write it as they wrote it in my language:
"lama rabi alardi dini endavur esa kunis alim"
I have never really heard it spoken, I read it in an old magazine the first time
Anyway, after that the astronaut said to Houston something like, can you repeat that, and they said something like
lets get on with the mission or something
The French TV lost the live feed at that point.
Now, supposedly everyone who was listening to radio and TV that day heard this, and there were many calls to ask what happened
and what was that all about, but nobody really knew there, and the tape was "lost"
The whole incident was release some time later by one of the two people who were in the studio at that time, but I can't remember was it the Astronomer or the translator
but anyway, a few linguists were trying to figure out the words, some of them would have equals in aincient languages (like Lama=angry or Rabi=Master, teacher)
but most of it is gibberish as far as it goes.
Now I just wish I knew alternate spellings of the sentance so I could find more google hits on it.
All I know is how I've read it, does anyone know of this story? Any French out there?
