My wife was cooking dinner tonight and started screaming. out of four eggs that she cracked into the frying pan, three were double yolks!
What are the chances of that happening? The wife thought there was some kind of curse.
What do you all think?

I get doubles every once in while so a triple is probably the egg equivelant to winning the yoke lottery...like triplets in the human world.
I don't think it is much of a curse unless the yokes hatched into little evil chickens that flew about the house screaming that you were cursed...then I'd be concerned, until then I would just enjoy the omlette...

Nothing unusual, I had a box of 12 eggs from Asda a couple of months back and every one was a double-yolker.
Some chicken factories produce more doubles than others. As the hens are often related, I guess there are lots of chickens in the factory that lay them.
In one of my local stores where they sell local produce only, you can buy eggs that are guaranteed to be double-yolked and they're available easily. Those chickens are free-range.
Wonder what causes it though? Is it like chickens constantly having twins?

Who knows. But that's pretty cool. I didn't know there was double yolks.

I don't buy eggs from the store mine are "home grown" some of my chickens lay double yolk eggs on a regular basis. most of the ol folks round these parts love them and would rather have them then single yolks.
one thing I have never had, is one to hatch out. so maybe they are hybrid. would be kinda on the deranged side if one did though.

We had a chicken that would lay double yolked eggs. I would assume that they would be equivalent to women who have twins. It is nothing that unusual, at least to those of us who live(d) on farms. There are anomolies in all sorts of things.

i didn't say it was unusual or it was equal to a women having twins like some of the other people on here. but i have never seen a double yoke egg, and if i did, i really wouldn't care.

I love getting a double yoke since thats the best part of the egg for me! It just seems i get them less frequently lately, and the size of eggs you by in the stores seems to be getting smaller and smaller all the time!

Pretty much. It's the same thing as when humans have non-identical twins, and two ovum cells are deposited instead of the usual one.
I figure that if there's one double yoke egg, the chances of there being another are higher than usual.

When I buy eggs I always buy "Jumbos" or "Extra Large". I get doubles two to three times in almost every carton. I mean, they are sorted by size and it stands to reason that a double would be larger.
As far as your wife thinking you're cursed, tell her to calm down. Now if she sees blood in them, then she should definitely make the sign to ward off evil, turn around three times, spit and burn a lock of hair.
I'M JUST TEASING YA!

I've gotten double yolks, but never triple.
Once, there was blood in one of the eggs, I went completely crazy thinking someone put the malocchio on me. Oh my nerves.

I've certainly got eggs in a carton that were double yoked, but I can't think of a time when I ran across triple, but it's absolutely possible.
I used to raise parrots... when my hens would lay eggs I'd "candle" them to see if they were growing little chickies, or if they were unfertile. I had a couple of hens that regularly laid "twins" but they never were fertile. So I never actually got to see (or have even heard of) twin live chicks being born from the same egg. But I certainly had twin eggs that did not produce chicks.

We had chickens that produced double yokers all the time.. once in a great while, there was a triple one.. but I never immediately thought "CURSED"... I just thought "cool" and proceeded to fry it...
