UNION CITY, Ga. - A McDonald's employee spent a night in jail and is facing criminal charges because a police officer's burger was too salty, so salty that he says it made him sick.

Kendra Bull was arrested Friday, charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and freed on $1,000 bail.

Bull, 20, said she accidentally spilled salt on hamburger meat and told her supervisor and a co-worker, who "tried to thump the salt off."

On her break, she ate a burger made with the salty meat. "It didn't make me sick," Bull told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

But then Police Officer Wendell Adams got a burger made with the oversalted meat, and he returned a short time later and told the manager it made him sick.

Bull admitted spilling salt on the meat, and Adams took her outside and questioned her, she said.

"If it was too salty, why did (Adams) not take one bite and throw it away?" said Bull, who has worked at the restaurant for five months. She said she didn't know a police officer got one of the salty burgers because she couldn't see the drive-through window from her work area.

Police said samples of the burger were sent to the state crime lab for tests.

City public information officer George Louth said Bull was charged because she served the burger "without regards to the well-being of anyone who might consume it."

As it was a police officer, i wonder if it was salt or something salty tasting? innocent.gif

ok. nowadays, these are the two kind of cops you get.

1.the stupid cop without any common sense
2.the abuse of power cop

this just makes ME sick!

When I finished reading this I at first thought, allergic reaction, but then the cop would have told them no salt and pepper...The manager should have gotten rid of the meat when they made the mistake. I'd say the cop went a little too far, and the judge was rediculous to lock her up...

This was my first thought! Was he too stupid after taking one bite not to figure out it was too salty and go get another burger? And then arresting the poor girl and making her spend a night in jail? And wasting lab time when he already knows what the problem was? Talk about abuse of power! I hope she sues him for false arrest! This is just epic stupidity! wacko.gif
m. Moe
Wow, that is probably the single dumbest reason for someone to get arrested. Oh no, the poor police officer's burger was too salty. Suck it up.

I don't care if you do or not. You're entitled to your opinion.

I am also entitled to mine. Mine opinion is based on experience. My dad was a police officer who put his life on the line every single day. He pulled a guy over once who just had expired tags. The guy had just had an argument with his wife and beat the crap out of her and thought he was getting pulled over for that. Before my dad could get all the way to this scum's car he pulled a gun and shot my dad in the stomach.

He was just doing his job, one of many because it didn't pay enough to support 4 kids.

Now you know why I think you're comment sucks.

Just so you know. thumbsup.gif

The times have changed but a policeman's and firefighter's jobs haven't. Everytime they get a call they put their life on the line..And yes, I have read of police abuse, but adults and especially teenagers don't have the respect for these people, as we did back in 1993 and before that...In whatever emergencies I have had, they have been their for us....In another thread you called them "Pigs"...Let me ask you a question...If someone in your family had to call them, for whatever reason, would you answer the door with "Hey pig, bout time you got here"...It's a rude expression and uncalled for...Think about it...

^ Thank you, goalie.

Put much more eloquently than I could have mustered.

Stixxman
Respect or no respect I think the important thing here is that the cop was an idiot the situation was stupid and the judge was stunned. One bite and anyone would know something was up, if he didn't figure it out until he wolfed down the whole burger then he should have his sidearm confiscated for everyone's safety.

As far as I'm concerned there always were bad cops, and always will be bad cops. Cops were much worse from the 70s-90s than they are now.

But there are bad people in all professions in all parts of the world, pretty silly to go around calling cops pigs and saying that you hate them. They are required almost everywhere. And I know enough good cops to make up for the bad ones.
Stixxman
But don't those bad ones REALLY screw the curve up though.

I think the cop over-reacted and the manager could have tried to remedy the situation, before letting it go too far.
Stixxman
Yeah I was workin waaaaaaaaaaay up north were you communicate by building a fire and holding a blanket over it periodically, way primitive , nice to see you too.

Put the salt down and come out with your hands.

I think that particular cop has issues.

I'm really not in the mood and I agree it's stupid.

The boss should be the one arrested. I mean she tried to cover it up.

The woman they arrested did what she was told to, and told her boss. Who should have gotten rid of the ruined burgers.

Right? I don't know it's been ages since I worked fast food.
Stixxman
uhhhhh nobody should have been arrested, it wasn't a crime, it was an error in judgement on both sides, the restaurant side for not disposing of the food and the cops side for being stupid enough to eat the whole thing THEN complain. And no ethyl im not trying to get a rise or anything I'm simply stating that when cops are bad then thts REALLY bad because of the office they hold. Stop seeing insult where it is not.
MoonPrincess
Poor police officer. If the person spilled salt on the meat. Than it was an accident. Oh well.
JeremyGTS
yeah cops every where are on a power trip, like everyone else said all he had to do was take it back inside after one bite complain and he would of gotten his money back plus a new burger. but on a side note that meat should have been thrown out the manager should not have served it.

Its like comparing a a rent a cop to a real cop. If a renta cop abuses his authority its ussually small time and petty. But the abuse by a real officer of the law is exponentially worse. The office he represents is a pillar of civilized society and any abuse of it undermines the whole concept unfortunately. Its like the service industry says "one person will tell one other person about the good food and service they recieved somewhere" whereas "one person will tell ten people about the bad experience they had at a restaurant" People carry ill news quicker than they carry good news, its a sad fact of life. Everybody wants to be the victim.
coldethyl
People have to remember that IRL, everyone is just human.

There are no real Supermen. People are fallible and everybody loves a car wreck.

Anyway back to the topic. This never should have went as far as it did. IMO anyway. I think it was an abuse of power and I think testing the burger is a waste of forensics's time.

But that's just my take on it.
Pax Unum
I'm guessing the officer thought the salt was some kind of prank, he should have asked to speak to the manager and requested a new 'low salt' burger... IMO

I agree... taxpayers money hard at work... meanwhile there are murders, rapes, and other such crimes every day... yet a hamburger that has to much salt takes priority... i find that just as disgusting as the abuse of power
Stixxman
they dont see it that way, they see it as their duty to eat a whole over salted burger THEN complain thats it was malicious in nature. Theres more malice in the cops action than the workers.
Repoman
THis makes no sense - McDonals doesn't have hamburger "meat" where a "batch" of meat could get salt in it. The burgers come frozen in large rolls of individual pattys. At no time in the food preparation does a McDonald's employee sprinkle salt on the food. There aren't even salt shakers back in the grill or food preparation area.

This person was lying. If she had salt back near the grill (the only place where multiple burger pattys could ever be "accidentaly" salted) then she was already dead wrong.

It is obvious she saw the cop, went to a storeroom where the large containers of salt used to fill the salt shakers are stored and got a bunch of it and dumped it in his burger.

She is a liar and I hope she loses everything.

What if she dumped a tablespoon of salt in the center of the burger? The cop would get all of the salt in the final bite.

Read my previous reply so you understand what is going on.

I am amazed that you think eating a tainted bite of meat that happens to be the last bite of a burger is worse than trying to poison someone.

Then again, I'm not surprised. Humans are humans and OJ is free. Go team!
Stixxman
dude i worked for mickey d's for 5 years, you do season the burgers after the flip. Its a salt pepper combo actually. Know what your actually talking about so you know whats going on, DA.
GoGoGodzilla
if the manager had told her to scrape a patty off the floor and serve it..would she for the sake of her job?

to be fair, i can't see anything in the article that says he ate the entire hamburger..and if i was a cop, in uniform, i'd be a little more than wary when something went wrong with my food.

i don't trust the fast food employees around here as it is.

P.S. i wonder if anybody else got served the "salty" hamburgers.. seems they didn't touch on the subject. was it this cop, and this cop only?

yeah really impressed with someone who's only mouthy on the net. I worked from 12 years old to 17 and it paid for a car, a trip to cali, skiing in montreal. While someone like you was at home waiting for your allowance. What exactly does the last part mean?

Its too bad that fast-food workers are generally treated so poorly; perhaps they would try a little harder to please their cliental if they weren't constantly bludgeoned..

It must be difficult for some college or high school student to take his job seriously when there's guy with no teeth in a filthy shirt sputtering out sentence fragments in a vain attempt to insult the fast-food industry.

Or the really old men that get a kick out of screaming at the 15-year-old taking his order....

Heh, ya gotta laugh. Or cry.
