user posted image rA Venezuelan man who had been declared dead woke up in the morgue in excruciating pain after medical examiners began their autopsy. Carlos Camejo, 33, was declared dead after a highway accident and taken to the morgue, where examiners began an autopsy only to realize something was amiss when he started bleeding. They quickly sought to stitch up the incision on his face."I woke up because the pain was unbearable," Camejo said, according to a report on Friday in leading local newspaper El Universal. His grieving wife turned up at the morgue to identify her husband's body only to find him moved into a corridor -- and alive. Reuters could not immediately reach hospital officials to confirm the events. But Camejo showed the newspaper his facial scar and a document ordering the autopsy.

Amazing. I couldn't imagine how freaked out he must have been when he came to all of the way and realized what was going on. Could you even imagine how shocked/happy? is wife must have been when she saw him alive?

I wonder (I know this may sound silly) if they really checked him enough to make sure he was dead. Have there been many cases of someone being "medically deceased" and then out of nowhere coming to life? I haven't heard of them if there are.

Very interesting case. Good share Saruman.

I wouldnt think this would happen to often.
After the body is cut open they remove the organs
so if you were not dead when you came in you would be
shortly after.
I bet she was happy that her husband was still alive but on
the other hand who knows she might have already been thinking
of ways to spend the insurance money. tongue.gif

I read about this one case where a woman was buried alive because she had fallen into a coma and her vital signs were out. When they opened her coffin, they found scratch marks in the wood and her body was lying on its side with her hand held up to her mouth...

I guess she wasn't embalmed. My Grandma had a fear of this happening. That was why she never wanted to have an autopsy. I told her if they are going to find out you're still alive it is going to be during the autopsy. By brother use to work in a morgue as a janitor when he was in school. He said people moan and sometimes sit up after they are dead.

remembered a scene in Heroes where the girl thought dead woke up with her chest been already opened. haha

Oh yes. Not so much in this day and age, but about 100 years ago it was not uncommon for people to be buried alive or declared dead before they actually were. Here's what Snopes.com has to say about it. In the 1800's there was the practice of putting a string with a bell attached to it in the coffin; if the buried person wasn't dead yet, they could wake up, ring the bell, and they would be dug up.

That's really freaky. It's one of my fears, actually. Years ago, when I was really young, I saw a show about people being buried alive, and ever since then I've been really paranoid about.

I've even told my parents that I don't want an autopsy performed, and I want to be cremated (so at least I won't know). It might seem a little silly, but better safe then sorry. laugh.gif

Chances are, if they think I'm dead, then I'm probably in a deep coma, or whatever, I wouldn't KNOW, I'm being burned would I? I'm just saying, I would rather die without knowing then wake up in a coffin and know I'm going to die by slowly suffocating.
Ghost Ship
There must have been a few people in history declared dead and had autopsy's while alive but died because of the autopsy.

But the person must have luck if somebody hear the bell, because in the graveyards is not supposed to be many people everyday.
If I woke up inside of the coffin and couldn't get out of there I could entering in stress and shock and couldn't breath very well, that could kill me.

Wow what a story! All the man needs to do is write a book and tell about his crossing over to the spirit world. That man has all the proof he needs now to know if there is a here after.
And scientists have been trying to figure it out for many years. And all it took was one man to die and come back to life. And see some mysteries that scientist can't even prove. I guess some times its just not our time to die. Well that man's experience will probably stay close to his heart. For long as he lives. Very wonderful story. The man that was meant to live. grin2.gif

The truth of the matter is, I was a nurse for years. In order to pronounce some dead, they must find no heartbeat, pulse or respirations, after working on someone for as long as it takes. I blame something so horrid as this, on total negligence on the part of the doctor or medical examiner. I smell a law suit..JN

Actually, the rich would pay people to sit around in a graveyard all day to listen out for the bells.

If they thought she was dead..why would they dig her up and open her coffin?? That sounds like an Urban myth to me!!

I wonder how long it will take for them to hit the talkshow circuit?

I think I heard the same story, Harriet. The reason they dug up the coffin was because they heard noises coming from it; and the dead don't make noises (unless of course, your a vampire wink2.gif )

Isn't that where the phrase "Dead Ringer" came from? The story I heard was that a string was tied to the toe and ran up through the ground and attached to a small bell hanging above the grave. They had people sitting in the cemetaries all night just to listen for ringing... they worked the "Graveyard Shift".

SaphireDreams
Well, if this doesn't give someone the heebie jeebies about "dying", I don't know what does. *shivers*

Imagine if the knot wasn't tied very well and the string came off your toe, you couldn't very well bend down there inside the coffin to pick it up and start ringing, could you? Great, now I'm gonna have nightmares....

This is or is a lot like the case of bloody mary where the legend of bloody mary comes from a scary story huh?

Wouldn't they have tested for brain activity? If his pulse was strong enough for him to bleed wouldn't it have been detectable???
