I was reading "true" stories at a site call Archive X and I came across this story. I am from Texas and I have never heard of this. Has anyone else??

This story still scares me to this day, and I still have nightmares about it. I am a bit of an adrenaline junky and have done some pretty stupid things to catch a hightime, usually involving daring, paranormal events. This by far was one of the scariest things I encountered. Idefinately believe in ghosts, spirits, demons and all that coincides. I lived in several haunted houses in my life so I am used to the normal activity of ghosts, but this was unbelievable. AND NO I DO NOT USE NOR WAS ON DRUGS.

One night a few years back, some friends and I were sitting around in my apartment. We didn't want to do the norm and go out to yet another bar so we started telling stories of encounters that we've had. Then a friend(named Bob)of one of my girl-friends(Audrey) spoke for the first time since saying hello and meeting all of us when they showed up. He told us about the time he went to San Antonio and did the car thing on the railroad tracks and the children push you over. He told us a few more stories about haunted places, and then about one that he had been wanting to go to, but no one would go with him. We found this the perfect thing to occupy our early October saturday night with.

We left the apartment about 11:30pm and drove about an hour across town...somewhere near Stafford, out in the country. Now the story about this place is that there was a town many years ago that housed satan worshipers. They had a church in the middle of town that still stands there, unused of course...to our knowledge. We showed up and first went to the church. There were 5 of us(Bob, Audrey, Justin, Crystal and me)and we all walked up to the double doors in the front. There was a heavy duty chain wrapped around the handles of the door, but it still allowed the doors to be pulled open about 5-8 inches. Of course, I had to be the first to look in.

The smell is what hit me first. It was a musty, cold stench that I smelled. I could turn my head either way and see pews, but it was dark and I couldn't see anyone. I stepped back and let the next curious person(Crystal) look. Then my stomach did a flip flop and I looked over at Bob. I could see his breath like he was in 20 degree weather and for those of you that don't know, Octobers in Houston are NOT cold. Then he looked up at me with widened eyes and I don't know if Crystal screamed first or the door slammed shut first, but the double doors slammed shut and the girl was screaming.

We all ran back to the car and regrouped. Crystal sat down on the grass and started rocking back and forth. We consoled her just a bit and looked around at each other and with out saying anything, left her on the grass and started walking back to the building. Stupid mistake I guess.

We walked around the side of the church and the windows were high up on the side. I, only being 5' tall, couldn't see through them with out getting a boost. The two guys of the group (Justin and Bob) bent their legs so I, again, could be the first to look. I looked down and noticed that there was no grass. I looked around the ground and the grass didn't grow at all around the church. For about 6' around in a perfect circle the ground was bare. I stepped up and hesitated before popping my head up to look. I felt as though I was doing something really wrong.

I lifted my head up and through the dusty window I ACTUALLY SAW PEOPLE. There were candles everywhere and there was a circle with an upsidedown T looking thing in the middle in the front of the church. It kind of looked like an upside- down, capital T, in the same effect that it had the little pieces that came down from the sides and the bottom. "serifs" I guess is what it's called. The congregation looked as though they were chanting. All of their mouths were moving the same and they were staring blankly foward. I saw a man (if that is what he was) walk from the back, down the aisle between the rows of pews and he turned his head so slow that it looked fake, then I noticed he had turned his head to look at me. I ducked quickly and lost my balance and stumbled backwards a few steps. I think I had been holding my breath the whole time because I gasped and it felt like I couldn't get enough air. Justin stood on his tip toes and looked through the window. I looked up to watch him and I saw a shadow fill the window. Justin froze, then in one motion turned and hauled it back to the car.

We followed and barely got the last person in before the car took off. We didn't go the same way we came, but down a road perpendicular to the church. Bob was driving and Justin, in a shrill voice asked where he was going. Bob said that he didn't come down here just be be scared by a bunch of satanist in a church, but the story of this place was that the people that lived here and worshiped satan way back when committed a mass suicide because they were to sacrifice themselves so satan would have the power to take souls from God. These people were all buried at the end of the street opposite the church.

While we were listening to his story, we were driving down this road with houses on either side. All of them having that same circular symbol somewhere on their house or in their yard. I thought in my head that we should turn around and go home, but I really couldn't bring myself to even whisper at that moment. I looked to see what time it was and right as I looked at the clock it shorted out, along with the headlights. All the odometers fell to 0. My heart was pounding. We could barely see, only having moonlight to guide us. There were no more houses on the road at this point. We dead ended at a gate that ,again, had that satanic symbol on it. Justin and Crystal decided to stay in the car. They turned it around just for a fast get away. Justin got in the driver seat. Audrey, Bob, and I walked over to the gate.

We looked around. We didn't see any gravestones. It was silent, no wind or anything. We climbed over the gate and took a few steps. There on the ground we saw that same circle symbol. It looked as if it were burned, or branded into the ground. Then about 3 feet next to it was another. They littered the ground. I assumed this is what they used to mark the graves. We kept walking stepping lightly and trying not to breath too loud or step on the graves. Bob was in front and we were a few feet behind him.

All of the sudden, he stopped and motioned for us to stop. He was staring off to the side of the field where the woods were. We stood there and watched as one by one the trees started shaking. Not like wind blowing. It wasn't smooth like wind and it only happened through a small strip of the trees. It was like someone was going up to each tree in a line and shaking each one separately. It was coming from the back of the woods to the front. As it got to the last couple of trees until it reached the field we saw it. It was a huge clouded, but translucent shadow. Kind of shaped like a man, but no one could make a shadow that big. We stood there. I wanted to run so bad, but I couldn't move my legs. I started shaking and I think I heard myself whimper and finally we were able to turn and run. I could hear the ghost roaring behind us as if it were really mad and the ground felt like it was crumbling under my feet, but I wasn't even about to look down. I kept watching the shadow gaining on us which probably made me run slower because I was looking back. Bob made sure to stay behind us; I am sure he could have out run us easily, but maybe he thought that he got us into this then he will get us out.

We approached the the gate and started climbing over. Audrey flew over and I lost my footing on one of the rails. I felt Bob push my butt. I tumbled over the fence and landed on the ground; I just laid there watching Bob climb over. As he was at the top of the gate and in the motion of jumping to the ground I saw the shadow levitate off the ground, continuing at the same speed and slammed though Bob. It went right through him. I heard him gasp like he was just shot and the force knocked him foward and he literally did a front flip and hit the ground. The graves on the other side of the fence were glowing, making an orange, glazed fog that covered the field. I watched what ever was chasing us recede back into the woods, like it couldn't pass the gate and was startled by Audrey screaming out Bob's name. He came to and we helped him into the car, cautiously glancing over our shoulder every second.

Crystal emerged from the floor board with her mouth wide open. She told us she watched the whole thing and Justin, with a grim look on his face started the car and fiddled with the lights. They still wouldn't work so he just put the car in drive and started driving quickly down the road leaning forward trying to make out where the curves in the road were. As we drove down the road, the people that resided in the houses there were all outside and glaring at us like we just robbed their fortune. Every last person was out on his/her lawn staring. We came out to where the church was and drove as fast as we could out of where ever we were.

We said not a word the whole way home. When we got home, I rushed to make sure everyone was in and headed for the shower. My phone rang and I stopped dead in my tracks. I looked over at the phone and on the lighted caller i/d bar it read 6666666666. I didn't dare pick it up. It stopped ringing after the 3rd ring and I shivered and walked into my bedroom. I looked at my alarm clock and it said 12:00pm. Like we had only been gone for 30 minutes. I couldn't believe it. It took us an hour to get to that side of town. I looked at my watch on my dresser; it too said 12:00pm. I ran in the living room and asked Audrey what time she had. She looked at her cell phone and her jaw dropped. She said it was 12:00pm.

I call hoax. Doesn't sound plausible at all.

I'm not too sure about it....Yes there are still cults who perform rituals, but this seemed to be written by someone with a great imagination, especially the read about the cemetery....Good story though, thanks for sharing.. original.gif

why does it have to be "666" ???

Probably these hoaxers should try 616 or 665 instead of the overused "666"

EDITED TO SAY: Nevermind.

First, I put true in quotations because I read it somewhere else. And I put it in the urban legends section because it didn't sound real. And I live in Texas somewhat near to the place she is talking about and I have never heard of it before. Plus I love that it is a really interesting and well told story.

Second, Anastasia Beaverhousen. I love Karen from Will and Grace.

It's a nice, chilly story, however. I liked it, true or not. grin2.gif

Mhm .

They didn't bother telling police that some weird little town was up to some freaky stuff?

Meh .

Either way ..

If that story was real - I'd say the 'Glowing" grave stones were probably just her imagination ..

Did anyone notice that the original author of this story (as quoted by the OP here) said that after the ordeal, the time read 12:00 PM and not AM? If this was supposed to happen at night, it would be impossible, as the author made sure to repeat this as if it were midnight.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very imaginative story. I rather enjoyed reading it. It would be much better if the author of this story concentrated their efforts on writing with the intent of being published in lieu of writing to garner attention for a "true, ghostly, satanic" story. original.gif

I really did like this one. While I do feel its made up, it was told so well I almost wonder if someone didn't have a really bad trip and believe they where seeing what they thought they saw.. Most ghost storys like this have something along the lines of "We left her by the car and she was thinking about blah blah blah" as if they know what other people are thinking, or "We left her by the car, and while we where gone she played hopscotch and and counted to a million" as if they knew what was going on somewhere else.. this one kept with the author, or her main character, the whole time, leaving gaps in the story to account for what she couldn't have known about the other people/characters. It made for a very convincing story, though still, I don't believe it.

What's amusing is that satanists either aren't aware of the inverted cross being an old Christian symbol, or they're deliberately ignoring it laugh.gif

If this story is true, that it would've been circulated much more. The whole ordeal was kind of exaggerated, but it was still pretty good. It didn't freak me out, but it was a good read.
Daniella2310
I read that story some time ago, pretty spooky! I love some of the stories from that site, althought the best ones seem to be the "fake" ones. I don't know what to think of this one though, its in between! Too freaky to be true, and yet it could be!
kiddglock
Sounds like some B movie. Not even very scary. Sorry.
TheDreamer
Well written, besides the obvious mistakes. I rather enjoyed it, but it is a hoax.

Though, on the other hand, this stuff can happen but if it happened they wouldn't be in much danger. It was probably a manifestation.

But still fake nonetheless.

Might of been a dream, like the twist to every so called "unique" B movie. Damn dreams, and amnesia as well. Damn.
KrakenRouge
My dear friend, this is bad prose and a worse premise for reality. It relies too much on the devices already seen in other areas of popular fodder. I respectfully disavow its verity.
greenboy
well like I said is a great story, and thank you for posting it for us to read. I think you need to do more research about that church. And about the grass not growing around the church I wouldn't be surprise, I spent 6 years in Texas, and My Lawn was dry all the time, the water has a very bad quality it was so bad, so terribly bad. I was unable to grow a thing in there, and I have several years of experience as a gardener... so this really dont surprise me at all, also Texans are great people but very private, so I wouldn't be surprise this was a private service. Do you know what is the "family" they do things like that all the time, Texan are really free if you compare their state and state laws with the rest of the country, if you ask a Texan about a dog license or a fishing license or a hunting license even about a driving license they will laugh at your face, some rural places people drive for ages without a license and in those small town in T.exas everybody knows everybody... I wouldnt be surprise they were worshiping like that at all. Thank you for sharing...

I've lived in San Antonio, Texas my whole life....36 years. But I've never heard about the Stafford story. Then again Texas is a pretty big state. It seems more like a B movie but was fun to read.
Enigma wrapped in a puzzle
I live in Texas and I have driven through small towns where I could see something like this being out there. But this is total fiction, its written just like a story out of a scary book.

This story still scares me to this day, and I still have nightmares about it. I stepped back and let the next curious person(Crystal) look. Then my stomach did a flip flop and I looked over at Bob. I could see his breath like he was in 20 degree weather and for those of you that don't know, Octobers in Houston are NOT cold. Stafford is SW of Houston. My sister lives there and if there was anything like this around she would have been on it before she even unpacked her belongings, so I seriously doubt any of this is anywhere near true.

I read the story months ago.. very spooky!

There was another story similar to this that I read somewhere. I can't remember the town name, but it was supposively a ghost town that owed its demise to satanism or something and that it was an evil town and if you went there you'd see all kinds of stuff. I thought it was sort of funny, because I'm from texas and a majority of my family lives there and have lived there their entire lives. I asked my dad about the town and he laughed and said "Well, it's a little hick town, and they're rude, but I wouldn't call them satanist". Lol. The story made it seem like everything was ramshackle and deserted, and my dad said it was a perfectly functional town, it was just small and out in the middle of nowhere. It's easy to make a story like that and place it in texas. . .texas is so big with so many wide open spaces, it wouldn't be hard to imagine stumbling across a creepy little village. There are plenty of creepy TRUE stories about places in Texas. I don't see why anyone would HAVE to make anything up.

I got sucked into that story. My hearts actually racing. Though i think i heard of that church before. So weird.
