My Chemical Romance, definitely. I like the theatrical feeling they have to their music and the story they tell with their songs. I also love how they put out such a positive message. They've inspired me in so many ways.
I also like Taking Back Sunday, Paramore, The Academy Is..., Yellowcard. The list could go on forever.

This type of thread has been done to death, but I still love it!

My all time favorite band is
'Vidoll'.
Here are some reasons why:1. The Vocalist has an absolutely beautiful and skilled singing voice, he can also do death growls and crazy screaming.
2. Band leader is the Bassist, who, due to being the leader, gets to make good and frequent use of his instrument. (Bass is one of my favorite instruments...)
3. Nice costumes.

And here are a couple live clips, so you can see what I'm talking about.

no its a comment that people attribute greatness to people who are really doing nothing more than standing on the shoulders of real creative people, its like rappers claiming their so talented when they sample from everyone else's music and then take credit for its success like they were the only creative influence. Music today is a joke for the MOST part.

its not surprising you don't know what im talking about you were only born a little while ago. I have had to live through a few reincarnations of this particular sound and a none of them were much good in the first place. Its about perspective, yours is hampered by the fact that your 7teen and mine is enhanced because i been around awhile to witness its predeccessors. All music is derived from other music these days. So simply, their look is a copy, their sound is a copy, they just pick up where the original stop so thats what it means to stand on someone eles's shoulders. You copy their method then act as if you made it up.

My favourite band are REM. I went to see their working rehearsals recently in Dublin and their new stuff sounds amazing. I also like the shoot offs from REM, Robyn Hitchcock/Venus 3 and Minus 5.
Went to see Robyn Hitchcock play with John Paul Jones from Led Zep last friday in Dorset - great set.

The Misfits, the best damn punk rockers EVER. No other band has influenced me as much as the Misfits. The old Misfits, not when Jerry Only reformed the band (94 was it?) and put Michael Graves as vocals, he could never live up to Glenn Danzig. Secondly, Bad Religion. No explanation at all. They own, end of story. And they are one of the few real punk bands still going. Proof that in the day that rap, hip hop, pop and crappy poser bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan dominate, punks not dead.
Meh, might as well make a list.
1.the Misfits- already explained
2. Bad Religion-also already explained
3.the Ramones- no explanation needed
4.NOFX- an awesome punk band
5. Aiden- umm, lots of people argue whether they are punk, emo or "post hardcore", but no matter what they are pure ownage
6. Sex Pistols- probably my favorate British band (eat your hearts out Beatles!)
7. Danzig- even though he doesn't have any of the other Misfits and now plays metal, Glenn Danzig still owns
8. Social Distortion- a really good punk band that doesn't get recognised as much as they should.
9. Dropkick Murphys- classic punk
10. the Clash
Thats just my top 10, I could go on for a while....

I've heard Korn before and hate their sound. I don't think they sound like Vidoll as a whole, only in parts at most.
And why do you think they look like Aerosmith?
Stixxman
Sep 20 2007, 08:20 PM
make and costume the same, with a little manson to boot. Thats an old played look not original on their part. But those guys are famous for geeking western culture so I don;t see this as exactly a revelation. You had to see guys like twisted sister, whitesnake, aerosmith, in concert a couple times its the same really. There's no shame really I just think if you give them credit without mentioning where they got their ideas its wrong, they are not the originators, just the copiers.

so i will take my toys and go home then right? mature
in twenty years some kid is gonna say that this hip new band is going around, and you'll look and listen and think your hearing your Vidoll band. Its all cycles everything is, when something wains in popularity something else surges. Ever heard the phrase "everything old is new again" well thats where it comes from. Don't take the truth so personal.
where exactly do you think these "artists" get their wardrobe ideas, these guys are a managed act man. They work for a label which helps them with forming an image and provides them with help to develope their material. So since there is no substitute for succes they dubb looks sound and whatever else they think will put them over the top.

Vidoll does have their own sound and style, even if it does have similarities to other sounds and styles. Every band does (to varying degrees, of course).
Your idea that similarity means deliberate copy is still childish. If that's what you're arguing, I shouldn't even bother replying.
So I think I will pack up my toys and go home, you're no fun to play with anymore.

I love Classic Rock....
My all time favorite is probably Tom Petty and Heartbreakers though. Probably closely followed by good old Zeppelin and I'd put David Bowie really high on that list too.
Heh, I actually saw the Iron Maiden Number of the Beast concert in... wow, must have been around 1983 or '82?... Their opening band was this upstart group no one had really ever heard of ... Metallica.

And I have to ask... Is Dropkick Murphy's really considered punk? I love them. hahah. Kiss Me I'm $h!tfaced is a brilliant song. haha. It's THE most fun song to sing along to when you're in a dive bar with a bunch of loud drunks. (Boy Named Sue or Hot Rod Lincoln by Johnny Cash is a close second though
