Suspect denies body barrel killings

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A man is denying shooting two men whose decomposed bodies were found sealed in steel drums on his property, his attorney said.
Defense attorney Ron Chapman said Tuesday that Jerry E. Pelfree told him he was innocent. Chapman declined further comment.
Monroe Circuit Judge Marc Kellams entered preliminary pleas of not guilty on Pelfree's behalf Tuesday and set a pretrial hearing for Nov. 13.
Pelfree, 51, is being held without bond in the Monroe County Jail on two counts of murder.
Authorities on Monday identified the dead men as Douglas Allen Brown and Everett Lynn Shaw. Brown, of Bloomington, was reported missing over the summer. Shaw, 34, of Gosport, was reported missing in March.
Bloomington police's Critical Incident Response Team went to the site and served a warrant Friday afternoon after an informant tipped off police. They found the steel-drum barrels about 100 yards from Pelfree's home. Several vehicles, weapons, and drugs also were confiscated from the residence.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by police, Pelfree, Brown, Shaw and the informant had been staying together in April following the theft of an all-terrain vehicle.
Brown was believed to have been dating Pelfree's daughter and reportedly had threatened to kill her after they broke up, the record said.
The informant said he and Shaw were repairing a car at Pelfree's mobile home when Pelfree shot Shaw with a .22 caliber rifle.
The informant said when he went inside Pelfree's home following that shooting, he saw Brown dead on the living room couch. He also said he helped move the bodies and place them in the drums, the affidavit said.
Monroe County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Bob Miller said Tuesday his office had not decided whether to charge anyone else in the case.Don't date this guy's daughter...ok?
