According to this article researchers have found that the 'Hobbit' otherwise known as Homo floresiensis had wrists that were primative when compared to that of human beings backing the original theory that these tiny people were actually a different species and not just pygmy humans with a brain defect.

QUOTE
Matthew Tocheri and colleagues tell Science magazine that the bones look nothing like those of Homo sapiens; they look ape-like.

The announcement in 2004 detailing the discovery of Homo floresiensis caused a sensation.

Some researchers, though, have doubted the interpretation of the find.
These individuals - including the Indonesian palaeoanthropologist Teuku Jacob - have argued that the remains are probably those of a pygmy with the brain defect known as microcephaly.

But the new analysis by Tocheri, from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, US, and co-authors will add further weight to the original assessment.

Their study shows that the wrist bones of the Hobbit are primitive and shaped differently from the bones of both modern humans and even their near-evolutionary cousins, the now extinct Neanderthals (Homo neanderthalensis).

I personally think this is very cool! (click link for the rest of the article)

I've studied Homo Floresiensis enough to think that it didn't have a brain defect -
Yes it's brain was small, but it had intelligence ..

PS. I don't like that Indian Palentologist

Despite the fact it's brain was a bit smaller they had culture and made things like tools and what have you. Not quite as intelligent as humans but would be the smartest species next to man if they were still around.

Not to mention they lived alongside the Homo Sapians .

Recently as Ten Thousand Years ago ..

And there are legends on Flores of 'little people' that speak in murmurs, originating a few hundred years ago (I believe).

Edit: Found some info for you. The legend calls them 'Ebu Gogo' and were apparently sighted by the Portugese 400 years ago.

Ebu Gogo

Yeah but aside from legend and there are a lot of them out there, there is no evidence that the Ebu Gogo actually existed.

I find it quite ironic that these small human-like creatures called "Hobbits" happen to live in the only area inhabited by dangerous, giant carnivorous lizards that are called "Dragons" (Komodo Dragons). It would seem that the dragons "won".
