As I sit alone in this darkened room
Watching candles flicker & breathing perfume
I meditate on life & my own journey
While trying to be, the best I can be
Wondering where my travels will take me
Assailed by self doubts & uncertainty
I try to remain focused on what lies ahead
That I may dream of love, while I lie in my bed
My faith & hope, are my rocks to cling to
My search for inner peace must continue
Empathy shines forth a guiding light
Realising where I've erred & how to put it right
Who truly judges us, the divine or our hearts
We are each the sum of all our parts
Our pain & struggles remind us of our humanity
As we each toil & strive to reach our destiny
Our petty attachments & all our lies
Are really shackles in disguise
When night turns to day & the candle burns out
Will we rest peacefully, freed from self doubt
Remaining true to your nature, if it causes pain
Is a trivial pursuit, with no rewards to gain
This is why we must ponder & fight
To do what our hearts & minds know are right
Trying not to get dizzy on this rollercoaster ride
You can run from yourself but never hide
We each seek to make our own mark
To know we shone brightly in the dark
