Wellington - New Zealander Dave Mullins claimed a world record after swimming 244m underwater on one breath in a suburban Wellington pool at the weekend.

Wearing a mono fin, Mullins took four minutes and two seconds to swim nearly five lengths of the 50m pool on Sunday, extending by 18m a record he set only two days earlier.

Mullins is preparing for the Freediving World Championship in Egypt, where he will compete in an ocean event in which divers go as deep as they can without breathing equipment.

Wow that's is some going!!!

I find it hard enough to swim one width of the local swimming pool underwater, let alone over 200m worth, I end up looking like this wacko.gif

Yeah, it is. I had to google it to see what it looked like. tongue.gif

That's quite some distance to hold your breath on. Though they should try to get a hold of some pearl divers to try this record out... I bet for sure they could wipe his slate clean since they can hold their breath for an insanely long time.
