The news section on the main page will shortly be replaced by an alternative version of the site updates column that currently stretches down the center of the page.
Rather than the current news section, which requires me to edit the HTML to update the news, the new system will allow me to add news articles through a submission system, similar to the way in which posts are made to the forum. This makes the process considerably simpler, and so the news will get updated a lot more often that it is as present.
This new system also includes support for multiple users, meaning that other site users can also post news articles through a yet to be implemented option on the main page.
If you would like to submit news to the main page of the site in the new news column, let me know either by E-Mail, Instant Message or by simply replying to this thread. Those who have submitted news to the news sections of the forum may be particularly interested in becoming a news poster.
News posters aren't required to post news every day, simply keep a look out for good news articles and post them on the news column whenever you see fit, in the same way as news is posted to the forum's news sections every now and again. You don't need to spend any time writing articles either, a simple pasted summary of the news item and a link is more than enough.
News will be archived after a period of time, and can be browsed using another yet to be added system. Site visitors will be also able to discuss each news article using a comments system, the same as the site updates column has at the moment.
This news system should keep the news on the front page constantly updated - it's much easier for me to update it, and there will hopefully be others posting to it as well as myself.
If you have any questions / comments, or would like to become a news poster, let me know via E-Mail, IM or by replying to this post. :)
