I agree with you completely that brain interface directly would be the better method... having said that, the cost would be much more tremendous and the technology is much farther into the future... so till that point, maybe we could just have a room. The reason I say its a much more tremendous cost is that each persons brain is different, so you may have to have the system made for your brain alone... Unless you are just hoping to plug into a certain cortex... But then you wouldn't have all the senses involved.... I can't say cause its been about 3 years since I have studied the brain... Like I said though, you are right, the future of gaming technology would be to play the game in you mind. Good Post.
Yeah. Probably a fair way off.
But I get heartened by the research carried out in helping people with physical disabilities. I remember reading of an experiment where scientists were able to get people to see with their tounge. So it does seem possible to rewire the way the brain receives input. Of course, there are also cases of artificial limbs being moved with a person's mind.
I mean, it's far from being able to send information to your brain across your computer network or anything remotely like that. But it might be a step towards some future way to get basic visual and movement response that could be used to replace a monitor and gamepad.
Anyway, the impact on people with physical disabilities is obviously more important. But would be nice to also advance gaming as an offshoot of the technology.
I was even impressed with the Nintendo Wii controller. Now, if we could actually move things with our mind. That would be the big step towards some really good virtual reality.
