What if, after you die, you end up as a ghost. What if it's you roaming the cemetary, haunting the house, leaving the evp?
In the widest accepted terms of what a ghost is - someone who was once alive, died, whose spirit doesn't move on and roams the earth - these spirits were once people alive and living their lives.
If you actually think about it, I find it quite disturbing - like being stranded only you can't call the RAC to come and get you.

Cool thread Reg!
Well, if I ended up a ghost (versus a spirit) I would obviously have some unfinished business grounding me. If I had the mental capability of knowing I was grounded due to an unfinished issue then I would assume I would also then have the residual memory to know how to figure out what I need to do in order to move forward. Some think that when one dies, they gain all knowledge in passing. Well, if that is true then I would have all knowldge and gravitate towards someone who could help resolve my issue and move "towards the light". Right?
Hmmm, or, I could just say "screw it" and hang out and haunt someone. Oh, that might be more fun...

That last part does sound like you could have some fun with it! And just think of all the snooping and peeking and listening in on others you could do! As for haunting, i,d pick the biggest jerks and creeps and freak them out till they crap themselves! Now that would be fun!

Some good points there Jody. Maybe the knowledge that's gained when we pass makes it not such a scary experience... thinking as a living person, I would've imagined it to be terrifying.

If I were to return as a spirit, obviously there would be something I needed to look after (have a disabled daughter at home); I
would of course continue to protect her if need be, and maybe have a little fun with some non-believers, then I would be searching for a way to move on. I have no doubt there is joy and happiness awaiting on the other side; like my late husband
a couple of children and many friend and family. I truly am in hopes that my life here will be in good order, so that I can go directly into the light. Dianne

If I were to return ... I would haunt hardcore skeptics. I'm skeptical myself, but my experiences with the afterlife and ghost and spirits have led me to not be skeptical towards it. But yeah, I'd haunt the most skeptical of the skeptics with regards to the existance of ghosts.

What if all this ghostly activity is really just what's left of a person after they pass on trying to let all of the people still stuck in this consciousness know that there really is no heaven or hell?

You have to remember though that you wouldn't be be the only ghost/spirit around. Imagine meeting up with the devil(if you believe in him). Still, it would be fun scaring the crap out of people that use Ouija boards.

Well that could be a possibility as the whole concept is still trivial. Could be we're all crazy seeing these ghosts ... they might not exist at all and it might be something else.

I've said this before in a few threads... but here is my theory.
I think there is a combination of things why we have Ghost activity...
We could be seeing the cross over realms of the Past... Future and Present...? If you lived a good life, I would like to think that we have a choice where we pass on. Whether its coming back in another life ( reincarnation ) or become a spirit guide, angel whatever choices we are given. If we lived a not so good life, if you were an evil person, or did bad things perhaps you get put in a state of purgatory. ( Limbo, for eternity or until you fulfill your business and put back what you did wrong ). Or we could have very powerful minds!? ( Laws of Attraction ) If you believe, or want something bad enough, its going to happen. Its called having the universe work for you. Everyone is made up of energy. Positive = Positive Negative = Negative... I think the same rules apply to Ghost activity. If you believe, your going to experience it. If you don't believe, you won't.

We could all just be experiencing a very powerful and lucid dream of some sort, but I don't like thinking of such things, especially around lunch time.

Well if I was a ghost I would definatley haunt an individual that I know of, if he was still alive. Let's say he just did something really bad...(I won't go into details) I might stall his vehicle on train tracks when there is a train coming...I would leave evps on my families answering machines just to let them know I am still around. I wouldn't want to freak them out so I wouldn't keep doing it. LOL. only if they ask me.

I wonder what we would feel like.
I would imagine that we'd feel lighter, not sure why, I just think we would. Also, for some strange reason I have the feeling we'd feel colder too, but I think that's the whispy, nightgown cladded figure out in the middle of the night that gives me that assumption.
Would we breath, blink, tummy rumble - what parts of our body would function. I'd imagine us being able to move and blink and wave, but I couldn't imagine a ghost burping and if we don't breath, do we feel breathless?
These are all unknowns I know, but I'm really curious about what it would feel like to be a ghost. Physically and emotionally.
Hope that makes sense.

Well in my opinion, I believe ghosts hang around because they never realized that they died, or maybe there are just some things that they never accomplished in there past lives. But if I was a ghost, hopefully I would end up realizing that I was dead and continue in the afterlife. I just hope that I wouldn't end up like Nicole Kidman in "The Others".

No Hun, dont even think about it. Everyone and everything dies but not completely, everything actually changes form, and I believe the soul does not die, but moves on to another plain with everyone else. Sometime LIFE is Hell on Earth, and from what I can and heard, death is a beautiful, peaceful experience. JN

Without turning this into a post on religious beliefs, it is a beautiful, peaceful experience if you "go on". The whole point of this thread was, what if you don't make it to the light and you're earth bound, which if you believe in ghosts happens sometimes.
Very often when I watch paranormal programmes I hear of the ghosts of children and the thought that they're trapped here alone is not a nice one, or of roaming around cemetaries for years - imagine if that was you. Surely if you believe in ghosts, they are the souls of someone who was alive and had a life and didn't make it to where we all want to go at the end of our lives.
Miss Believer, I'm sorry this worries you - and if there are such things as ghosts, it would appear that the vast majority of people who die do go straight to where they ought to be and I really wouldn't worry about it. You're right though, it's not a pleasant thought - your description of hell on earth is what I think of this as well, which is why I posted the topic in the first place.
Please Explain
