user posted image rFewer people are reporting sightings of the Loch Ness monster, amid concerns scepticism about its existence could threaten tourism in the region. There have only been two reports of sightings this year, compared to three in 2006 and much lower than a decade ago, when the annual number sightings was consistently in the double digits. "It's becoming a potential crisis," said Mikko Takala, 39, a founding member of the Loch Ness Monster Fan Club who runs four webcams on the lake's north shore. advertisement Loch Ness is about 750 feet deep and is deeper than most parts of the North Sea. There have been more than 4000 purported sightings of "Nessie" since a surgeon vacationing at the lake in the 1930s released a photo allegedly capturing the legendary monster on film. Since then, the monster has been a key tourism draw, bringing an estimated £6 million a year into the Highland economy. The faithful have speculated whether Nessie is a completely unknown species; a sturgeon, even though they have not been native to Scotland's waters for many years; or even a last surviving dinosaur. In the age of digital cameras, webcams and video recorders, it is surprising that the number of reported sightings is falling.

Adrian Shine, 58, a naturalist who has investigated the mystery of the monster for 20 years, thinks the trend shows the world has become more sceptical. "I think we live in a more pragmatic age, and that people are becoming more aware of the sort of illusions that can occur on water," he said.

I believe there are creatures we don't yet know and understand living in the seas, but i think loch ness monster is just a tourist attraction for scotland, i mean what else do they have? hills.. kilts.. hmm? the amount of time they have " known " about it, surely they have had enough time to search the loch with new equipment. But they probably don't because they don't want to miss out on all that beefy tourist money..

I really don't like what you said, about Scotland not having anything else. Scotland have many wonder things to attract tourist to our country.

Personally... I think there are far more sightings, and realistic evidence with Lake Champ versus Nessie. I'm just not sure about Nessie... Because of the famous hoax, I question each piece of new evidence that comes up for Lochness... besides that I here Scotland is a beautiful place to visit. I have friends in the UK who visit there frequently. I've heard great things about it. I also hear a lot of people are moving there because they like it so much.

I just visited Lake Champlain on Labor Day weekend and had my own personal experience with Lake Champlain... I'm not sure if it was Champ, or it could of been something just paranormal. It was freaky though.

they have a great video out there of Champ somehwere, I forget where... but I read newspaper clippings and visited the monument nearby. Its been spotted since the early 1600's!

I dont think that sightings are dropping that much. I just think its because no one wants to come forward or report their sightings. Think about it. If you were to go up to some of your friends and say 'I saw Nessie!' they would think you were either nuts or a lier. I know that I wouldnt broadcast something like that here where I live. You would get berreted with questions, mockery, insults and all manner of redicule. And now a day with some people getting more skeptical and where science is a bit more vicious anyone that comes forward with anything can suffer a good amount of humiliation.
Curse you Redicule Factor!!!!!!!!!!!!!
