Bank Robber Catches Ride With Police By Mistake
Everything was going smoothly for a German bank robber until he made an error of judgment that got him arrested within 20 minutes of his stick-up: He tried to hitch a ride with a police car.
The art of hitchhiking depends to a large extent on luck. Travellers can spend hour after tedious hour end stuck by the side of the road waiting for a ride.
But for one 18-year-old bankrobber who tried to make his getaway by hitchhiking, getting a ride proved to be bad luck -- the first car to stop contained two plainclothes police officers who were looking for him.
The man had earlier robbed a small sum of money from a savings bank in the town of Dettelbach in southern Germany on Tuesday morning by brandishing a knife he had just stolen from a nearby store, police said.
