An aristocrat claims a peacock caused £4,000 damage to a blue Lexus car - by trying to have sex with it.

Baronet Sir Benjamin Slade put in a claim to insurers to cover the damage to his employee's car.

He has also put up warning signs at Maunsel House, in Somerset, after the "peacock blue" Lexus was scratched and dented by the amorous bird.

The incident proves the bird is gay, according to Sir Benjamin, because peahens are brown and only males are blue.

He says the male damaged the car because it looked like "another peacock boy".

"He attacked the panels so hard that the car needs a total respray," he said.

"The insurers, Lloyd's of London, are not very happy about it. They've had claims for all sorts of things like lions biting people.

"But never have they heard of a peacock sexually attacking a car before."

He added: "I've had to ban peacock blue Lexus cars from the car park."

Why do I get the impression that this was Sir Benjamin's reaction.

Is it possible he thought it was a rival?...

Birds aren't really all that smart, and peacocks and peahens are about at the bottom of the barrel in the smarts department with chickens and ducks and other barnyard foul (geese can be smart sometimes, but generally not).

Peacocks and most barn foul are territorial by nature (especially males). More than likely that bird was being more physically aggressive than sexually aggressive. He was seeing his own reflection in the paint, and may even have been attracted to the color blue (dark or intense blue reflects particularly well too, better than most other car paint colors), and he was attacking his percieved "rival" in his territory.

I rather doubt he's a gay peacock... more than likely he's an alpha peacock trying to protect his "brood and territory".

Birds are mostly dumb (but still my favorite pets)... peacocks are REALLY dumb..... All beauty, no brains.

I used to have a cockatiel that had sex with my socked foot.

I never sued my insurance company for sock replacements.

Thats what i was thinking! They showed a peacock going nuts on a car on t.v. once because he saw his own reflection and thought it was another male on his turf, it was quite funny to watch though!
